Actually there should be a diving vacation will, but unfortunately the diving station already a year ago closed. The rooms are clean, furniture could however may be replaced. Staff are very friendly, complaints are taken serious. The buffet food was okay, the Italian restaurant we can't recommend, but the French. My wife and I stayed at Sol Rio de Luna y Mares from January 9 to January 23, 2016. The good things about the hotel are a beautiful beach, very good location, friendly staff and a nice and efficient lobby. Negative is the lag of maintenance. It would not take much to improve the resort to a 4.5 star rating if maintenance would be done on regular intervals and if things would be kept up to date. The food is plentiful with a good selection. There are 6 restaurants with the French being the best. It is unfortunate that ... you can go there only once per stay. When you stay at the hotel for two weeks you can only use the restaurant once, which seems to be unfair. The Mexican restaurant has nice background music, but it is overpowered by events that go on in the lobby, which can be very annoying. Like at most other resorts the entertainment is to loud. Most guests I talked to have the same opinion. Because of the loudness some people to not go to the shows. Some are wearing earplugs. When the guy at the lobby made announcement he was always screaming. Why? Would we go back? Yes, because of the beautiful beach, the friendly staff and the location.     Couldn't fault the service people lovely. Very helpful when my husband hurt himself 90% of staff and guests were English or Spanish speaking. No problems with sunbeds there were plenty to go round. We spent more money on tipping than on anything else.

    The Wellbeing centre was great with a spa. There was lots to do if you are interested in sports. The Mayes bar and hotel was busy with lots going on be we stayed and the quiet Lunas end

    Excursions REALLY IMPORTANT! Don't book on your first day, look around and talk to people to find out their experiences. We were told by our rep that there were only 2 dolphin trips. One was half a day and one all day but we found out and booked with a different rep a 24 hour dolphin experience where we stayed over night had free bar and food and two 40 min private swims with a dolphin to ourselves as well as the shows. It was amazing and to know our rep knew about this and didn't make it common knowledge wasn't good. Our trip cost 124 CUC which is about £7 more than the full day trip. beautiful beach within 2 min walk. At times the beach became swarmed with locals, drinking and at one point brought a pig on the beach to cook. It's their beach so this was not a problem until they became rowdy and started asking hotel guests to get them free drinks and asking them to leave clothes behind. Only 2 shops on site and nothing outside the hotel. Make sure you take everything you need as the shop can be expensive. My husband hurt his hand and went to the local hospital, they were lovely people but it was a very scary place to be. The tourist hospital was an hour away, it cost £150 for the treatment which was worth paying just to get out of the place

    4 al a carte restaurants. The French was by far the best but there was always something to eat. We spent most of our money on tipping but really 1 or 2 CUC was more than enough

We chose to stay here because they had a Certificate of Excellence 2014-I have no idea where this ever came from! They are not 4 star for sure-Very few staff can speak poor English-Customer Service manager speaks next to no English. We changed rooms 4 times! On arrival we were given a room on the bottom floor in the Mares side, which was filthy dirty with stained bedding and furniture, mildew and very musty so much that one would have trouble breathing. 2nd room was not much better; 3rd room-the lock brook and after waiting over 1/2 hour, we were ... given another room-which was just ok. Food is terrible and there was great deal of cross contamination, especially between raw chicken and while the chef took it to the grill to be cooked, it was carried over other food and meat, while dripping raw chicken juices all over the other food. As previous people reported, we were sick the 2nd day with diarrhea until we left. When it was brought to the attention of customer service they said it could not be the resorts fault but just a change of diet. That is nonsense, especially when we did our own survey and 7 out 10 people in the resort were ill. There is a strong lack of hygiene, in the dinning areas, the bar, the restrooms and there are no paper towels or air dryers to dry your hands after using the washroom. The maintenance of the hotel itself is very poor. Water standing in puddles on the slippery ceramic tiles in the hallways of the hotel, are only waiting for a disaster to happen. Painting could be done to clean it up, but it appears no maintenance is done. Broken steps and walls exposed due to no maintenance. The pro I can think of is the beautiful beach, but again there is very little maintenance and care done on the beach. And the other pro is Jenny at the Pool Bar.what a wonderful person-so caring! the hotel was very large and spread out, for ourselves it was no problem but I would imagine a bit of a problem for older/disabled people. The food was OK but got boring after the first few days,maybe change of menu on a weekly basis might help. The staff were very friendly and helpful from the tour rep to the beach guys. I found that the male bar staff were a bit choosey always serving the young girls first no matter how long others had waited(to be expected maybe). The rooms were of a good standard with every thing ... you would need safe coffee machine tv iron and ironing board towels etc. I would recommend the Mares side of the hotel as that's where every thing is from nightly entertainment to restaurants it would save a bit of a walk. The tours on offer are good and have English speaking staff. The pick up/drop off went very well as did the checking and out the only delays were at customs/immigration both coming in and out of the airport again to be expected. read hotel review

The beach was just the best - in the restaurant and at the buffet everyone will find something that is tasty. The staff was friendly and multi-lingual. Every evening entertainment and also during the day something for everyone. read hotel review
