First time on the Maldives: Velidhu Island resort from the 05. - 14,10. 2013
Alone from Frankfurt 22:05 hours with Qatar Airways terminal 1/ QR24 Boing 787 (Dreamliner) via Doha/Qatar
To check in starting from 19 o'clock possible/before luggage in storage was possible = €7 for 24 hours
Night flight very pleasant, in economy class enough space, nice service and good meals, flight time to Doha about 5 hours lost due to the good entertain programme. Fast
Free luggage 30 kilogram + 7 kilogram hand baggage (had about 35 kilogram total luggage - complete Diving ... equipment without bottle/lead) + enough chocolate souvenirs for diving/free luggage air-taxi but only 25 kilogram, i 40 American Dollar overweight f. return paid.
Change in Doha well organized (yellow band)/ 2 hour stay at the airport are well bearable/airport well air conditioned, since outside temperature of 30 degrees cel.
Flight almost 4 hours with airbus a321 to male (again, with catering - less seat room)
In times very high humidity with over 30 degrees., lounge airport also well chilled. There's also wi-fi (to inform people about the arrival in male)
Arrival and check-in without any problem, paradise impression - the island is clean, very well maintained, nice and lovingly designed garden area (with parrots, bats and three cats), of the necessary logistics for the operation of a ' tourist. -insel' you get with hardly anything. Upgrade to the water bungalow would be 80 American Dollar/night possible (but not necessary!). Small 'barefoot island' with a nice sandy beach and bathing jetty (is necessary to go over the reef roof), breakwater before the beach does not disturb you at all, you can in about 15 minutes travel once around the island,
German speaking island (about 90% german), average age mid/end of 40, some 'regular guests', hardly service, nice beach bar, spa with various treatments for 100 American Dollar/60 minutes available (not used).
On the island there are mosquitos. 2 times/week, on the island is full of fog (stinks then terribly). Nobite spray (1 time ) + Nobite-ointment (1 tube/week ) + Nobite closthing spray (clothes before spray yourself thoroughly) helps a lot. Only had 1-3 mosquito bites.
Money is only needed for the 'tip' (room boy, restaurant, diving school), otherwise on the last evenings invoice. In the reception there was a sufficiently large safe for valuables available.
Kettle, nescafé, creamer and tea were sufficiently available. Enough towels and bath towels are also available (are 2 times per day replaced by roomboy). Very good and quiet air conditioning system is present, there is a very favorable laundry (the dry cleaning and laundry on the same day cleaned and ironed brought back). There is also a hair dryer and an adapter for german e-equipment. Overall, the example a simple but very clean impression. Beds are very good for beach chairs.
You get a reserved seat in the (single) assigned seating, which is reserved throughout the stay / drinks are all written down by the waiter and you must sign
Breakfast buffet: from 7:30, quality ok (note 3), features: ' egg man' /filter coffee served in cups
Lunch buffet: from 12:30, quality ok (note 2), 1 times local. 'curry', pasta, fried fish (tuna), otherwise a lot of chicken, from time to time beef, soups are delicious, large area for dessert, with lots of fruit and sweet' stuff'
Dinner: from 19:30, see lunch buffet
Beach: here it becomes clear that all-inclusive is not equal to all-inclusive (I still don't understand that), you sit very nicely on the beach looking at the sea, get a beer, the two house wines, soft drinks and nearly non-alcoholic cocktails (no coffee), 'real' cocktails cost $ 10 American dollars, wine is more expensive and coffee is available as Nescafe - in the context of all-inclusive. (otherwise 5 American dollars / cup) / Important: only the asterisked on the map rel. Drinks/snacks included in the all-inclusive program.
On the island there is a diving station eurodivers (on padi-base). Currently chaired by the english speaking greek Leonidas Kalantidis (very nice and competent). On the homepage of Euro Divers different diving packages can be booked in advance with about 10% discount, the rental equipment (including to Loan refinancing Shortis) are in good condition and well maintained, Nitrox32 is 'for free' (of course only with appropriate certification), the processes in the base are impeccable, the staff very nice and helpful at all times.
You enter yourself in a list for the desired diving trips of the next day. In the morning, one - and two-tank tours to different diving spots offered (except on friday, since gives it because of the islam. Holidays only one tank tour), which are all visible on a large card. In the afternoon, there was only one tank-tour. Similarly, (to register on a list) you can go reef diving from 6:30 until about 6:00 p.m. Sometimes ' nightdives' will be offered (on the reef or at sites outside).
There is the all-level, as well as the advanced - level dives. With the intermediate -dives there is more in flow area diving. You have next to AOWD (or similar) to demonstrate that you have mastered the so-called negative entry (ie immediately descend after jumping in headfirst quickly to get out of the flow area and the underwater reef (Thila) also 'make' to)
The dive sites are approached with two Dionys. For these tours, you have to at the end of each dive pay to the hotel about 16 American dollars (gross) (not at the dive center), which is of course increases the cost per dive even further.
I (aowd with about 60 days before the holiday) the 6 - days no-limit dive packet (applies within seven days) in advance and have at least managed to book it, in this time 22 tg to undergo (maximum would be in six days 24 tg possible), of which 15 boat tg. Am with 3 kilogram (!) Well managed and had a 3 millimeter semi-arid suit (completely ok with about 30 °c/many diving with shorti these offers however no protection for example from waves), I bought my own diving equipment apart from bottle and lead.
The tours were accompanied/guided by the Austrians Peter Eckhardt (petzi) or the Swiss Esther stucky, rarely also Leonidas Kalantidis. The briefings (in german v. Peter and Esther) were absolutely understandable and comprehensible; i always (over - and under water) felt very safe and well prepared/cared for. Under water the animal and plant world became then very actively shown. The TG was then discussed after.
The underwater world: the view this season was good to moderate. I've seen next to all kinds of small fish, almost always the different types of sharks, moray eels, turtles, etc. The were no mantas at this time. The reef landscape is partly a sad sight. I suspect as famous dive sites such as Maya or hafza thila (or even the house reef) once looked. Why is that: coral bleaching end of the 90s, Tsunami, 'divers', who should not diving. It's a pity. Please help, so that the delicatly growing coral can evolve again! Do not touch, do not trample on it (but everyone knows that!)
Conclusion: The big fish etc. was great, I found the reef world on the Red Sea (Egypt) more interesting. The hotel and the food was ok! read hotel review
