The beach was very clean and the quality of the water was unique. The staff were always helpful and accommodating. Great service. The food is definitely not five-star value, with the exception of the barbecue in the main restaurant (every second day in the outdoor area). Lunch was two-star food. We had a wonderful two-week vacation. The staff from the front desk, bar or the cleaning ladies were very friendly and helpful. Even when we were ill (swollen foot and ear ache). Very beautiful, spacious and well-kept hotel area. Very friendly and courteous staff (from the cleaning ladies to the management). Very good food, presented in a buffet form, which we always found to be very fresh and varied- so really, whoever had something to complain about here couldn't be helped! Very nice holiday, everything was OK. You should organize excursions yourself (rental car, taxi or bus). The prices from the tour operators I find shameful. We got around with a rental car. However, I would not recommend Air Berlin because there isn't much leg room when flying. Read more

Being a Riu you can use the Yucatan opposite which is nice and they have a lovely bar in reception which is a great pit stop when walking back from the beach (which is only a 5 minute walk or a caddy does run back and forth also) All in All a fantastic holiday, great food, great weather, a lovely hotel. - in April 10

on arrival at the hotel you were welcomed with drinks and your room key shortly after you were shown to your room and your bags were brought to your room within minutes so no lugging cases around in the heat,the next morning you have your welcome meeting with the reps and an hotel manager the hotel manager gave you information about the hotel its services and additional services around the complex and other hotels which you can use, the thompson reps told you about all the trips in my view (in reflection and knowing what i know now) were just after your well earned money they showed real compassion and an interest in making your holiday go without any upset or missery not the case im affraid all they wanted was your money as soon as you parted with said cash they didn't want to know, on the sat after we arrived it was our 17th wed anniversary we wanted to book the steak house they said to leave it up to them and they would sort everthing out, on the sat morning we hadn't heard anything from them so after breakfast i asked at the booking kiosk if they had booked us in and they hadn't and the restaurant was fully booked,saying i was annoyed was an under statement so i went to talk to the reception a lovely lady called claudia i explained the situation and she sorted it out and managed to get us booked in and we went on to enjoy the day we had planned down on 5th avenue (lots to see lots going off loads of shops and bars best bar sonior frogs near the ferry terminal) on returning to the hotel and going to our room we found that the reception (claudia i think) had organised it for our room to be decorated with towel sculptures and flower petals a very nice touch the wife was made up, on arrival at the restaurant we were shown to our table which had also been decorated with flowers and serviette sculptures which we thought was going the extra mile to make our day memorable,during the meal they gave us a bottle of chilled champagne (not part of your all inclusive) and at the end of the meal presented us with our own anniversary cake (spacially made for us) this made the whole day amazing the staff in the hotel can't do enough for you they bend over backwards to make sure you have a good time nothing is too much trouble they are truely brilliant, as for the thompson reps they didn't want to know when we calmed down we went to see the thompson reps to ask why they hadn't booked our table and all we got was feeble excuses they must think we were born yesterday not as much as an appology anyway thats me done with thompsons reps all they were interested in was your money not as they say making sure you have a great holiday nothing is too much trouble rubbish they don't give a damn. - in September 10

I won't bore you with the details all the previous reviews say it all, yes the rooms can smell musty the food can get repetitive neither of which are really the hotels fault, the humidity certainly doesn't help with the damp and to cater for the masses of picky people you can't help but repeat the menu after all isn't that what most of us tend to do at home anyway? but there are just a few niggles.

The hotel is ideally situated in a very safe environment there is a small shopping area about 5 minutes walk from the hotel, and for serious shopping there's 5th Avenue which is a 5 dollar cab ride away, the hotel had every amenity that you could possibly need or want, what I liked best was, before leaving for my holiday I had read reviews and the comments made by other people and most have said that the staff are friendly, helpful and always smiling and they were right the staff could'nt do enough for you, the rooms were very clean, large and airy 2 very comfortable double beds, bedding was changed every 2 days clean towels every day, the room had excellent air conditioning with a large balcony , the main restaurant was large the staff there again gave an excellent service before you had sat down for breakfast the staff were there with your pots of tea and coffee at evening meals you were seated by a member of staff, who I must say made a big fuss of any child you had in your party, again before you had drained the last drop of your drink another was placed in front of you, we tried he Steak House which gets booked up very quickly again the staff gave an excellent service, we loved the swimming pools especially the one with the swim up bar, by the our 2nd day the bar staff knew what our favorite drinks were and quickly had them made up for you, the hotel's entertainment staff done an extremely good job making sure that nobody ever felt left out, the evening shows were very good especially "The Michael Jackson Tribute Show" this is one show you should not miss, the one thing that I did not like was we were told by our holiday reps not to use outside agents for any trips we wanted to go on but after seeing the reps price's, we had chosen 3 trips that we wanted to go on the reps were charging 805 dollars for these 3 trips we decided to cancel, after converting the price into sterling nearly (£600) we went to one of the agents in the local shopping center who gave us an excellent service which cost us lest than half the price with the holiday reps, we were also given his personal mobile number just in case there was a problem (we never had to use it as mini buses turned up on time) the one trip that stands out was the Catamaran trip on the "Blue Tiger" I have a fear of deep water and one of the catamaran staff a man called Angel personally took me snorkeling it was an amazing experience he was very patient and helpful, we all had a wonderful trip with an lovely meal and when we returned to dry land our cars were there to whisk us back to our hotels. - in September 09

This was always very popular and seemed to attract quite a few people from the neighbouring Riu Hotels as the main bar and stage area had a very nice atmosphere on a night, perhaps because it is sheltered from any sea breezes. - in April 10

There is plenty of sunbeds but the annoying thing was the old towell trick, my Mum and Dad used to get their beds under the Coconut tree's but a family of 8 used to put their towells on the beds next to them and not show up til 10. - in December 09
