The hotel in general
The Alpengut is a guesthouse in the heart of the idyllic German alps, neighbouring the internationally renowned Schloss Elmau hotel. The historical inn, formerly King Ludwig’s rest stop and telegraph station on his journey up to his secluded hunting lodge the “Schachenhaus”, is today a comfortable three-star hotel with a sophisticated cuisine.

The Elmau Valley lies stretched between the “Zugspitzmassiv”, “Wetterstein” and “Karwendel” mountains at 1000 metres above sea level, nestled in the midst of practically undisturbed natural surroundings with the spectacular beauty of timber forests, meadows and mountain brooks and lakes.

A rich and comprehensive breakfast buffet awaits our guests in the mornings. Within the arrangement of half-board (not obligatory), we offer a diverse and well-balanced four-course dinner, and upon request vegetarian and low-calorie meals as well. All this is served in a casual atmosphere, the south terrace offering a panoramic view of the mountains. Our à la carte restaurant “König Ludwigs Einkehr”, with a beer garden in the summertime, lures hikers as well as gourmets with its wide selection of dishes from the Bavarian and international cuisine

Sports, entertainment and pool in the hotel
A secluded world of mountains and unspoiled alpine pastures awaits hikers and experienced alpinists alike.


Nearby mountain lakes and the neighbouring hotel’s swimming pools are inviting for bathers. Mountain-bikers will find the most beautiful tours of varying difficulty. Windsurfers can expect ideal conditions on Walchensee, for kayaking and rafting the Isar and Loisach rivers are perfect. Nearby is a tennis school with three clay courts, as well as Schloss Elmau’s outdoor swimming pool and several golf courses offering further fitness possibilities for the summer months.
In the wintertime, Elmau is the ideal starting point for the most beautiful ski slopes of the region: Mittenwald, Garmisch, Zugspitze, Ehrwald, Seefeld and Innsbruck. Cross-country skiers will find the start of a 35 km ski-run just 500 yards away, leading them into the unparalleled beauty of pristine nature. On request, beginners can take lessons with professional instructors.

Hotel room/Accommodation
The comfortable rooms (single rooms, double rooms, or apartments, 55 beds in all) are individually furnished, for the most part with handcrafted alpine furniture. Modern sanitary facilities, direct-dial telephone and satellite television are all standard. One has a tremendous view towards the Wetterstein mountain range from the south-facing rooms. And at night, one hears only the rush of the Kaltenbach creek. The Alpengut combines the relaxed atmosphere of a guesthouse with the comfort, service and sophisticated cuisine of a three-star-hotel. Internet Access via WLAN is possible in all rooms.
