Hands-On Cooking Class
For years we took for granted our local Italian style of cooking and eating. Through our exposure to tourists from all parts of the world, we now realize the value of our traditional way of cooking, a small inheritance from our homeland.
Many guests have asked about the recipes for the dishes we prepare and serve. So, now we would like to invite you into our kitchen and show you how and what we do.
Learn family recipes for homemade regional pasta and how to sauce it, for example “lagane e ceci”, lasagna, parmigiana, fish and seafood including dorada, sardines, mussels and clams.
Nonna Maria also prepares her own marmalades, liquors made from lemon, fennel or figs, savory traditional desserts that you can experience during our classes.
While you are staying with us, why not learn some culinary skills and tips to take home with you?
Nonna Maria will teach you step by step the old traditional ways of cooking. So come join our family for a fun, relaxing, and educational hands-on cooking class with a personal touch.
The perfect cooking holiday with full immersion in Italian culture, food and wine.
Class sizes vary from two to a maximum of ten persons, just like the restaurant, cooking lessons are dedicated only to our guests. So each participant enjoys personal attention and gets to most out of every cooking session.
The cooking classes are held in our kitchen and dinning room or on the terrace and will be translated by Adriana in English.
Hiking
Cilento National Park is a crossroads of several ancient trails and is an important part of a national trail network. Walking along the ancient trails leads to some of the most fascinating places in the park, surrounded by panoramic views and landscapes that stretch from the sea to the mountains of uncontaminated nature that bewitches and seduces.
We would like to offer you this opportunity to discover the wonderful little world of Cilento National Park! We will show you our native places, you will walk through ancient trails, olive trees, vineyards, and woods. You will visit small local farms and be delighted by antique flavors, faraway from mass-tourism!
We believe that hiking is the best way to get to know Cilento National Park and dip into its genuine ambience. Many of our former guests were ready, willing and able to make a rush at the walking trails but found it difficult to obtain information about good hiking areas, locate maps and find trail heads.
During our time off, we started a tour of the area, collecting tourist information, brochures, maps, and hiking tips for our guests. As more of our visiting guests became interested in walking trails, hiking, and trekking we contacted Pietro who is a impassioned Cilento Park expert and hiking professional.
Pietro’s motto is
Walk, Breath, Contemplate.
He has published a forty trail picture book of Cilento Park, enhanced with photographs, historical, botanical and social details. Pietro selected for you some of the most beautiful park excursions, all very impressive. He describes each of them in great detail including location, difficulty, time, dangers, advices etc. He will be the one that will lead you through the natural trails and into this wonderful territory.
Gastronomy in the hotel
The Baia di Trentova restaurant was exclusively designed for our guests, and offers a relaxing, informal ambiance, allowing you to discover one of the most valuable parts of our tradition, the ancient flavors of Italy.
Our chefs, Oreste and his mother Nonna Maria are constantly in search of professional cooking excellence, bringing their individual styles of cooking to the restaurant for your dining pleasure.
Oreste is a curious, full of life, creative spirit. He takes delight in turning old forgotten traditional recipes into a modern version enriched with a personal touch.
Nonna Maria is a traditional Italian cook. She has been cooking all her life for her family and has preserved the cooking secrets passed down through generations. She is known for her savory jams, including; fig, lemon, pumpkin and walnut, lemon and aubergine, hot pepper and Tropea Onion.
Using only the best ingredients and Oreste’s own creative style of cooking, our restaurant has gained a wonderful reputation for excellent dishes and generous proportions, some say too generous. All this goodness is made with mostly organic products including, fresh and locally grown vegetables, fish, seafood, buffalo meat, and cheeses.
Special consideration will be given to guests with unique dietary requests (vegetarian, intolerances, allergies etc.)
We also offer fabulous local wines from the Cilento region nearby, which have been selected by us to complement your meal and our wine list. Delight yourself with a glass of wine to compliment Nonna Maria’s dried tomato, olives and aubergine with Cilento extra-virgin olive oil. After dinner enjoy a liqueur of home-made Limoncello or Finocchietto.
Dinner is served in our dining room, or on the terrace, weather permitting. Fortunately the weather permits this more often than not. The terrace boasts a marvelous view across the valley, sea shore, and is a great place to enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Mediterranean.
Hotel room/Accommodation
Baia di Trentova has 5 non smoking rooms each with private bathroom facilities and private access. A ground floor room with disabled access, is complete with a wet room and appropriate hand rail for wheelchair-bound guests. Four upper floor rooms with large semi private terraces offer a spectacular seaside and mountain scenery views.
Housekeeping is most important to us. We clean your room like we would do it for ourselves…or maybe even better.
Due to the unique location on a hillside all of the terraces have uninterrupted views of the sea, Trentova Bay, the valley, national parkland, and couple local wineries and farms.
Just put your feet up and enjoy the spectacular views.
The rooms are simple, clean and tastefully decorated, each with a:
private access;
modern private bathroom;
shower;
hospitality tray;
color television;
air conditioning/heating;
hairdryer;
minibar;
desk;
free Wi-Fi Internet access.
