A very good hotel located in the tongariro national park. Excellent breakfast buffet. Beautiful rooms. Cinema, sauna and wading pool in the waiter. Dinner with dress code in the restaurant of the hotel available on advance notification or next door at a bit more relaxed atmosphere. Read more

The chateau tongariro is the best and most impressive hotel in Tongaririo national park. In the case beautiful weather you had a dream view of volcano and liable surrounding mountains. We were there on our 3 week tour and from there 2 days to explore the national park. Evening we have a fantasischen dining in kals however reasonably priced more upscale menu to us that this hotel should be allow if you visit the National park. The other hotels remember rather youth hostels. Read more

The hotel is nice from the outside and is also good for a postcard view. Inside it looks like something you would get in the 1920s, when it had its prime. But it is quite nice. Everything was very clean. We had no food, but you can eat in the hotel restaurants, if you get the right vest (jeans are apparently unwanted).
Relatively large, mini fridge, everything is ok, what you expected, TV in a closet.
The service was friendly and unassuming.
The restaurant in the hotel is very smart and requires appropriate wardrobe. We did not eat there... Read more

After a busy 19 km hiking on the Tongariro area-track was this hotel would be a treat. The cold feet I could watch on the underfloor heating in the large smartly appointed bathroom with bathtub could reheat food. Rest was not a problem in the large very comfortable bed. And strengthen we ended up in the attached to hotel cafe food that I thoroughly recommend. On the first floor the guests were open fire from a pianist conversation. Prior to grand setting the snow-capped volcanoes, whose center of the 2796 meters high active volcano Ruapehu ski field is is located at the bottom in 1100 meters the settlement Whakapapa the Grand Chateau, like an English manor house - with plüschigem ambience in a fantastic location.
