... the sea front with a lovely sandy beach. The village/town of Kato Gouves has plenty of nightlife for those who want it or guests can take a stroll along the sea front. There are supermarkets, car hire agents, boat trips, buses and a very good aquarium all in the vicinity. This was certainly one of the best hotels in the area and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to family and friends and would definitely go back. I don't know whether I would recommend the hotel, yes the staff are friendly and the place is clean (and Hector the dog is gorgeous) but the airplanes and that awful bed were certainly a major disappointment for me.

The bathroom was also large with double sinks and although the room was much larger, it was only quite basic.

we were by luck given a room with a double bed and two single beds (despite there being only two of us) which was immaculately clean and cleaned everyday throughout our stay, the bathroom was big and had a good shower and the balcony was nice, and the air conditioning was so needed after the hot days , but when you use it make sure your balcony doors are closed or it wont turn on ! - in October 09

I also requested a room with a seaview if possible - I realise after being at the hotel that not very many rooms actually look out to sea, but we still got a room with a seaview as well as another balcony with a view towards the mountains - perfect!

I stayed at the GOUVES MARE with a young family and i have to say it was a very good experience as staff exhibited all the values of excellent service. - in June 10
We will most certainly be going to this hotel again next year thanks to the excellent service from Marie-Anna and her brother, with the assistance of Christos and Linda at reception, Vicky in the bar and especially Mr Iraklis in the restaurant.

We came back 15th june after staying for a week and can safely say it is the best holiday i have ever had, the hotel is spotless clean modern but very comfortable the pool & poolside is fab the grounds are very well kept, the food was 1st class with an excellent variety every breakfast and evening, the best night by far was friday which is bbq night with traditional dancing and is a night not to be missed, but most of all the staff were the friendliest most helpful people you could wish to meet mariana made us feel welcome the miniute we arrived, vicky in the bar linda on reception, sophia & joanna at the snack bar taught us greek and hector the dog who is a real character. - in June 10

Can't wait to see Iraklis, the head waiter who was so friendly and taught us Greek every day; Guus and Linda the receptionists who were also really helpful and cheerful and of course the lovely Viki, who makes the best cocktails in Gouves!

There isn't childrens entertainment and the seaside bar shuts around 8pm but that was no problem at all for us - if you go you must try the food at the seafront - it's excellent and the service and cakes are amazing. - in June 10

We spent 2 weeks at this hotel, the food was great and had a good mix to suit all tastes, Bedrooms good size - all the staff were fantastic - very friendly and only to glad to please - even Mariana's personal slave - well he said he was ? who was a very nice guy - we had a meal with him one evening -, The beach was 100 yards away and was one of the best beaches I have seen in Crete ,a long expanse of sand not too deep and perfect for kids, the beach bar belonging to the hotel -meals were great and good value for money - Easy access to bus service to get to Hesoniosos -- Sissi--- Heraklion - Bali -- Rethymon . - in September 09
