The hotel in general
Tradition, lifestyle and Bavarian cuisine – the Platzl Hotel in Munich stands for all three. The Inselkammer family – the owners of the hotel – have been greeting their guests here since 1956. Then as now, great emphasis is placed on the retention and continuation of Munich lifestyle and Bavarian cuisine. “The special feature of our house is the combination of Bavarian style lovingly preserved right down to the smallest detail coupled with the amenities of an international hotel,” says Folker Müller, describing the hotel he has run since 1998. “It is not country-style rustic atmosphere with rough-hewn furniture and antlers on the wall, but rather a blend of tradition and today”, Müller stresses. This concept extends into the wellness area as well. Based on the model of Ludwig II’s “Moorish Kiosk”, this traditional hotel has a recreation area in lavish near-eastern style with magnificent ornamentation and varicolored stained glass windows.

The “Platzl Hotel” is located in Munich’s historical old city only a few minutes’ walk from the town hall.

Service at the hotel
Whether for meetings, seminars or banquets – the seven banquet and conference rooms in the Platzl Hotel offer the ideal setting for events of all kinds. The facilities, all of which are decorated in discreet Bavarian style, can accommodate up to 140 persons and can be illuminated by daylight or darkened for projections. They are fully air conditioned. The guests have state-of-the-art conference technology at their beck and call: from video beamers with integrated PC projection to ISDN telephone and Internet connections all the way to CD players, TV sets, slide and overhead projectors.

The “Müller-Pfister-Stube” room is the ideal venue for private parties. This room, dating back to the year 1573 is completely paneled in pine and has space for up to 80 persons. If required, the hotel team will take over the complete organization of conferences or banquets and prepare an appropriate social program such as the “Aying Brewery Experience”.


Gastronomy in the hotel
The Platzl Hotel also builds a bridge between tradition and today in its dining facilities. The historical 16th century arcaded “Pfistermühle” restaurant offers Bavarian cuisine featuring local specialties from cookbooks from Upper and Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate. In an atmosphere of old Munich, chef de cuisine Christoph John offers sprightly versions of traditional Bavarian treats. The Pfistermühle seats 95 persons divided into four rooms. In the summertime there is additional seating for 30 in the inn garden.

“Ayingers” Bavarian inn stands for vivid country inn culture on a traditional site. Regional cuisine with such tasty treats as roast pork or white sausages are on chef de cuisine Georg Gerl’s menu. Along with these specialties, the guest can select from among six different types of draft beer from the Aying private brewery, a seasonal beer and the fresh drawn “Jahrhundertbier”. A total of 140 seats, plus an additional 80 in the beer garden are available.


Sports, entertainment and pool in the hotel
The architects have gloriously succeeded in creating a total symbiosis of history and modern technology in the hotel. Basing their design on Ludwig II’s “Moorish Kiosk”, they have given this traditional hotel a unique gem in luxurious near-eastern style on the fifth floor, complete with splendid ornamentation, varicolored stained glass windows, gold-leaf tiles as well as hand-painted wall and ceiling frescos. “The illusionary fairy-tale world of the Bavarian King harmonizes in every detail with 21st century amenities,” says Müller. The wellness zone covers an area of 200 square meters (2,000 square feet). The sauna landscape offers an abundance of relaxation for body, soul and mind. In a room decorated with dark-blue ceramic fittings and precious mosaics, there is an aroma steam bath; handsome sweeping benches with mosaic paneling invite visitors to take a relaxing foot bath. The experience shower has three different light and fragrance variations to offer: “tropical”, “fun” and “fresh”. Whatever suits their fancy, guests can select between a gentle, refreshing shower, bubbling down in an orange-yellow light or an ice rain immersed in cool, blue-green light. Beyond this, we enhance the shower experience with mango and ice-mint aromas. The relaxation room in the upper part of the recreation area is equipped with a warming bench, deck chairs and light therapy equipment. Our athletically inclined guests can enjoy a fitness area with treadmill and cardio bicycles. There is also a solarium beneath an artistically painted Bedouin tent.
