Interesting quotes from the reviews

Hotel in general

  • big complex
    • in August 10
The same incredibly friendly staff, same power issues in the gym (watch out for power outages while on the treadmill); but now with tables under the trees outside the Elephant Bar - especially good for those that don't feel comfortable inside, and excellent steaks in the Obudu Grill.
    • in January 10
The Sheraton lobby has been renovated as compared with the last time I visited the hotel.
  • pretty standard lobby
    • in December 09
The air-conditioning did not have proper climate control very often I found pools of condensed water on the floor.
  • standard Sheraton
  • damp reception area
    • in December 09
The restaurants were pretty OK (there is an indian restaurant and one more that serves grilled meat platters), though the service was nothing home to write about (at the hotel bar one had to ask repeatedly for a drink before it arrived -- even when the bar was empty of clients).
  • impossible hotel bar
    • in August 10
However, if you can live with an average room (though not bad by African standards) but want a less stressful, more relaxed atmosphere where you get treated like family with good food, stay at the Sheraton.

A new model room is expected in November of this year.
    • in December 09
The room was reasonable: clean, comfortable bed, somewhere to work, hot water, good light, internet, all I want on a business trip.
    • in November 09
I stayed there for just one night, but the list of things to complain about is long: 1) Totally unfriendly staff, especially at the reception; 2) The rooms smell bad and are in horrible conditions; 3) The place is not clean in general; 4) The mini-bar was empty and did not work anyway; 5) Very very noisy - they organize parties on the ground floor till late at night.

I must admit that after speaking to the staff I managed to get into the club level rooms that although still dated in decore were a lot better than the standard rooms.
    • in July 10
The rooms are dated with various issues.
    • in May 10
The rooms are dated and have a smell and feel of not being cleaned thoroughly.

Service

I have spent many, many nights in West Africa at various hotels, and this Sheraton, with its friendly staff remains one of my favourites.
    • in December 09
The staff were friendly enough but the front desk were a bit lukewarm.

Rooms were cleaned every day, food was good, staff were helpful.

Check-out was equally unpleasant, and took almost an hour again due to a faulty printer.
    • in May 10
Here is a list of reasons why I rated it poor: 1) even though they say they take credit cards, it was a riduculously difficult hassle to use one to pay 2) The air conditioning did not cool the room properly even after we had it "fixed" 3) Even though we were in a "refurbished" room the lock on the sliding patio door did not work and the lock on the door to the room was questionable at best 4) Most of the "refurbished" rooms are located near the bar so the noise levels are very loud in the evenings and on the weekends 5) Usually only 1 of the elevators was working, ok sometimes 2, but this meant very long waits 6)Room service was very slow (but probably related to the infrequent elevators) 7) Pool did not seem to be cleaned on a daily basis 8)Food was limited in selection and very slow to replenish food (if it was done at all) 9)Staff was friendly but very slow 10) It took so long to check out (also a long time to check in!
