I was in December a week to relax in the hotel, the staff was really very friendly and accommodating. One noticed that the people here love the job. I'll definitely be back! Read more

The hotel comes in the years. In accordance with the room partly not more the standard. The sanitary facilities are worn and dirty see accordingly. The hotel is clean in general. The room are way to thin. You can hear the neighbors at all with. What is to criticize, however, is the quality of the food. Carelessly prepared and presented these are usually cold. The selection at the buffet is very limited. As has the hotel does not deserve a star. For a short break the hotel is however suitable. Read more

It is certainly a good hotel, that has deserved its stars also. We felt the hotel not really in us and won the impression, that all in the gastronomy area much very uncoordinated and become somewhat sloppy is, than three years ago. We think, that the indicated stars are not more justified. Read more

... fair to either the Sofitel standard the five stars. With little effort you could achieve significant improvements (cleaning of the bathroom, quality & freshness of the food offered at breakfast, partly very strong signs of wear of the inventory). Otherwise you must certify the employees, that they always very helpful and friendly. For a longer stay in Luxor we would choose another hotel.... Read more

Excellent hotel with very good facilities.
    • in June 10
The service throughout the hotel was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful, sometimes too much, we felt quite uncomfortable with our plates and glasses being collected almost immediately after being finished with, it would have been nice not to have someone constantly disturbing your meal by cleaning away.

We were disappointed that there was no entertainment at all but if we were ever in Luxor again, we would be happy to stay at the Sofitel Karnak.
    • in January 10
Relaxing in the room was one of the few things to do before and after dinner because there is no entertainment only a medium sized bar with poor service and bottles of beer for £3 and cocktails with untraceable amounts of alcohol in them.
    • in September 09
NO entertainment for the whole week NOTHING.

Service

    • in January 10
He gave us a very competitive price and excellent service.
    • in January 10
He has a lovely sense of humour, will give you excellent service and not hassle you with offers of extra trips to the West Bank, the special market or his Uncle's papyrus factory - unless you want him to, of course.

Small hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.
    • in April 10
      Staff were very friendly.
    • in March 10
The staff is very friendly (for Egyptian standards) and you could even relax around the pool if you’re lucky enough not to be there during the hours that the “Animation” team is convincing relax seekers to join their daily (annoying) aqua gym, water polo or other peace disturbing “entertainment” madness that involves lots of screaming, loud music which combined with the daily rounds of the beauty parlor’s personnel trying to convince you to visit their “salon” for a hair treatment, manicure, massage….
    • in October 10

    • in August 10
Further calls to Room Service in the week got no reply.
    • in January 10
Room was very clean but very old, the grouting in the bathroom looks from the 18th century, no aminities at all, no pen, no telephone pad, no laundry bag, no conditioner, no body lotion, no room service menu, no extra pillows, very old fashion TV, no emergency plan, breakfast is very poor, few items at the pool bar menu, staff are not polite, simply it is not a 5 stars, it's hardly to be motel or inn.
  • no service
    • in January 10
      Again service was poor.
    • in January 10
Relaxing in the room was one of the few things to do before and after dinner because there is no entertainment only a medium sized bar with poor service and bottles of beer for £3 and cocktails with untraceable amounts of alcohol in them.

Location

    • in June 10
Beautiful setting in lovely gardens overlooking the Nile.
    • in July 10
      Location excellent.
    • in October 09
The Sofitel Karnak is situated on the banks of the Nile in an excellent location away from the smog and "street sellers" of Luxor and Karnak.
    • in August 10
Don't book the resort thinking you can rely on the free shuttle either because the shuttle only runs a few times a day.
    • in January 10
      - The same sundowner lounge served us with a “fresh” orange juice that was heavily mixed with water (in a country where fresh juices are served at every corer) - The advertised “free shuttle” to town wasn’t free all the time.
    • in October 09
The hotel has a free shuttle bus and free shuttle boat into Luxor.
    • in September 09
The hotel even acknowledges its bad location by offering a free shuttle to and from town.
    • in July 10
There is a frequent free shuttle bus to Luxor and plenty of taxis.
    • in July 10
The Hotel is beautiful with lovely gardens leading down to the Nile, where you can get a shuttle boat into Luxor only a couple of miles away, or you can take advantage of the free shuttle bus that will take you up to the Winter Palace in Luxor.
    • in June 10
The hotel is located a taxi ride away from Karnak Temple and about 15mins from Luxor, the hotel offer a free shuttle bus or boat which is quite nice.
    • in January 10
You could also use the free shuttle bus or felucca (sail down Nile to Luxor - this takes longer.
    • in January 10
The free shuttle bus and ferry boat are a good benefit and usually very punctual.
    • in January 10
The free shuttle bus and free Nile boat both into the centre of Luxor were a real bonus In summary, there are 5 star grounds, 3 to 4 star rooms and 3 star service giving a strange mixture of Ibis, Novotel and Sofitel values.
    • in January 10
There is a free shuttle bus into Luxor every hour during the day.
    • in December 09
The downside of the location is that you either pay for taxis to get into town - about £3 english each way - or plan your trips around the times of the free shuttle bus or boats which run through the day - the boat trip is lovely but takes longer than the bus.
    • in October 09
The hotel has a free shuttle bus and free shuttle boat into Luxor.
    • in October 09
The hotel provides free a shuttle bus or boat ride to/from the centre of Luxor so it's very easy to see the sights on the east bank.
    • in January 10
There are free shuttle buses and water taxis available but they are not too frequent and stop quite early.
    • in January 10
What a disapointment, Great location, lovely outdoor area, then you step inside to staff who are offhand to the very rude, Evening buffet was lukewarm ,and badly presented breakfast was a shambles , restaurnat staff were the worst i have ever come across, rooms are old and tired, door locks do not work properly, twice during the night someone came into my room, very poor security , not a good place to stay
    • in April 10
The hotel is in a tranquil location next to the Nile, and after picking up other people from different hotels in Luxor you'll realize what a great location it is.
    • in February 10
It is in a great location, being outside the main centre of Luxor; we used the boat and bus that are put on free.
    • in January 10
The hotel is located just outside Luxor in a quiet location so no party-animals, but it's just a 10/15 minute taxi ride away.
  • few trips
    • in January 10
Also there was no shuttle back from town after 20:00 (maybe just to keep guest in the hotel restaurants at night?!
    • in September 09
But the problem with the shuttle is that its service is infrequent (and there's no shuttle after 7:00 pm, so dinner is out of the question).

A wonderful hotel with everything you could want from excellent food to courteous staff.

Stunning views from gardens to Valley of the Kings, fantastic garden setting and pool area, excellent food, balcony in Opete Restaurant idyllic for breakfast and evening meal , friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.
    • in August 10
Go to the Genisis pub for excellent food and ambience, it's only a 10 minute taxi ride away.
    • in July 10
Just as another example, last year we spent another six days at the Sol Y Mar, in Taba, by the Red Sea, and paid little more than 50% more than the cost of the buffet at the Sofitel Karnak for an ALL INCLUSIVE stay, with excellent food, soft drinks and even beer included in the package.
    • in July 10
The food was excellent with a variety of foods to suit all tastes.
    • in April 10
Oh my god the food - so bad, breakfast was good - but the poolside bar was just awful - the chicken burger oh don't, There is little varitey of food - it has the same menu for roomservice and cafe and poolside - would not advise to eat there, you would be much better off going into Karnak - alot cheaper and hell of alot nicer - Overall i would not rate this hotel as a 5 star maybe a 3 at a push - after just paying £600 for 1 week i truly think i was ripped off!
    • in August 10
I have to say the Sofitel Karnak should take lessons from the Winter Palace on what good food is.
    • in May 10
the pool was just right and the food was good although the themed evenings didnt bring much change to the menu, so over all good quality food but a bit samey.
    • in February 10
Food is good and as mentioned wine is expensive.
    • in March 10
After an exquisite 4 nights stay at the Cairo Sofitel el Gezirah, where we were a bit spoiled with great food and a stunning location, we were a bit disappointed with the Sofitel Karnak.
  • themed buffet
    • in July 10
The food was very good, some Egyptian selections but mostly continental dishes.

The food is OK and there is generally plenty of choice.

    • in February 10
Absolutely brilliant, enjoyed the facilities enormously, food was ok, pool area really nice, room kept clean and staff very helpful.

The pool is nice and the gardens lush and well-tended.

We paid extra for a Nile view but the balcony was really quite small so not really worth sitting out on although we had a view over the pool which was nice and quiet.

    • in October 09
Swimming pool area was first class with plenty of sunbeds even though the hotel was full ,immacutely maintained it was a great place to be in after the heat of the day .
    • in August 10
Oh, the Winter Palace and Gardens are wonderful to walk around (or have a meal at if you're feeling flush).
    • in May 10
The hotel is further out of Luxor, but with the shuttle boat and free bus this is not a huge problem (although the bus could run a bit later for those attending sound & light etc) The gardens are wonderful, the pool and surrounding area is spotless and great to laze about in after a mornings sightseeing!
    • in September 09
Setting aside (wonderful gardens and Nile proximity) the sunbeds were filthy and it galled me to see pool staff wandering around all day doing absolutely nothing.
  • dangerous water slide
  • no shortage of sunloungers
  • no sunbeds
