Hotel in general

    • in July 10
Just back from 2 weeks at this resort and what can I say other than it was the best holiday we've had in a number of years.
    • in May 10
My husband and i went here on our honeymoon and we will be returning every year as this was by far the best holiday experience we have had.
    • in February 10
This was our best holiday in the last ten years, we have been all over europe and not found a hotel with this much dedication to the guest.
    • in January 11
It was one of the best hotel experiences I have had.
    • in September 10
As written by many travelers, rooms desperately need to be updated, but despite that, it was the best hotel we stayed at during our trip in Egypt.
    • in March 10
I'm surprised to read negative reports about service, and food because this is were my husband and I rate this hotel the best.
    • in December 09
But I should not have worried - this is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
    • in March 10
You can sit and watch the sunset over the nile while they play classical music (not live) but was very nice - wish we didn't have the kids so we could have enjoyed it.
    • in February 10
The classical music on the terrace while the sun set was very atmospheric and really set the mood for the night!
    • in February 10
A coffee on the terrace and watching a different sunset every night accompanied by classical music, is really the perfect way to wind down when you’re all temple, tomb, bartered and hassled out at the end of a days sightseeing.
    • in October 09
At 4:30pm every day you can sit on the terrace and listen to classical music.
    • in January 11
Every sunset there was classical music on the rterrace.
    • in November 10
Watch the sunset to classical music is a must.
    • in June 10
The entertainment in the evening is also very poor with the only thing on offer is a CD of classical music on the terrace that abruptly stops at 9pm and a very bad singer in the Kings Bar every night so it's not as if you can just avoid the evening that he's on.
    • in May 10
In the evening the scent of barbecue fills the warm night air and as you sit on the terrace listening to classical music watching the sun set you are transported to an entirely different place as the Maritim Jolie Ville becomes an enchanting and wonderous blend of cuisines that no one can resist.
    • in December 10

    • in October 09
To sum up: We had a fantastic holiday and would most definately revisit the Jolie Ville

    • in February 10
,but the hotel is as good as our last visit.
    • in December 09
All in all a good hotel except for the bottled water prices.
    • in November 10
The measure of a good hotel is how they deal with them and it is in this that the Jolie Ville excels.
    • in November 10
Hotel good points: Location, grounds, infinity pool, French restaurant, staff, room cleanliness, zoo.

I'm sure some people will write to tell you this review is wrong and tell you how great the hotel is.
    • in January 10
These are small points - overall this is a great hotel with great staff in a wonderful country full of friendly people.

This hotel is great for a range of visitors: couples, older travellers and families with children.
    • in December 09
All in all, a great hotel and we would definately go back.
    • in October 10
Overall this is a lovely hotel in very large and beautiful grounds - we definitely recommend it but the evening entertainment was poor and the evening food was only average unless you eat in La Fleur – which was excellent!

In summary, a lovely hotel in fantastic grounds in a great location that we would certainly recommend.

This is a lovely hotel in a nice peaceful location just five minutes taxi ride from Luxor centre.
    • in July 10
drinks are expensive in the hotel but venture out to the supermarkets for bargains and put them in your fridge:) just ask your taxi driver for recomendations!
    • in May 10
Grounds have nice walks too water - yes it is more expensive in the hotel nd they do say as all the hotels do that you cant take any in but we did and never had any problems , we had a lovely time and are looking forward to going back again soon
    • in October 09
The only thing I would say is that the wine was rather expensive in the hotel at £5+ for a small glass and beer was about £ 3.
    • in October 09
Whilst this is useful, what it actually is, is the tour company getting in first to sell you excursions at their inflated prices before you get chance to get out and see how much things really are.
    • in October 09
For those that like to get out, things are made generally awkward in an attempt to get you to stay and pay the inflated prices.

Room

    • in December 10
The room was clean, comfortable and adequate for our needs and in amongst great formal gardens and mature trees.
    • in December 10

    • in October 10
The room was very clean although like everyone says in need of updating .
    • in March 10
Whilst the room was very clean, the decor especially the bathroom was very dated and a little tired.
    • in January 10

    • in October 09
The room was kept very clean, the towels were changed daily and the sheets are changed twice weekly.
    • in September 10
The rooms were very clean but are a wee bit dated in decor but an upgrade programme is under way but it should be made a priority as this was the only negative I found or heard from other guests apart from one or two overly attentive waiters with the younger girls.
    • in August 10

As everyone says the rooms are dated but are clean and the resort itself is excellent, no problems with the building noise, there is building work going on but never bothered us.

The rooms are maybe basic compared to a five start hotel in the UK but you are not in the UK you are in Egypt which is a poorer country.

    • in October 09
The rooms have TV and their own bathrooms (most seem to have twin double beds, if you see what I mean) but the rooms are basic to say the least.
    • in January 10
Yes, the bathrooms are dated, but they are perfectly functional and cleaned every day - and really, on your own private island, you shouldn't be wasting too much time hanging out in your bathroom!
    • in January 10

    • in November 10
True, the rooms are a bit dated, but then again it's much cheaper to stay here than the 5* places in town and the grounds and swimming ool more than make up for it.
    • in October 10

    • in June 10
we stayed at the jolie ville the last week may first week june 2010 and after reading some reviews we were a bit worried as it was our 32nd anniversary but i must write that it is the most relaxing place in luxor the service and attention to customer needs is second to none yes the rooms are a bit dated but they are in the process of doing them up but i dont go on holiday to spend my time in the room when you have 4000 years of history to see and the gardens are exquisite and kept perfect.

These are small points - overall this is a great hotel with great staff in a wonderful country full of friendly people.
    • in October 10
The staff are great and really seem to want to lift things, I suspect this hotel had its heyday some years ago and has been allowed to slide of late.
    • in March 10
Drinks were expensive, service was poor at times.
    • in November 10
I booked half board and the food was fine, nothing special but well cooked and nicely presented but the service was slow and never enough waiters on duty.

Location

    • in December 10
Personally I preferred the Valley of the Queens, as it was a quieter, more beautiful location and nowhere near as busy.
    • in December 09
      The location is beautiful.
    • in October 09
We were stunned by the beautiful location and never got bored of exploring the island, The room was very good I thought and the bathroom had been done up.
    • in February 11
AND I HOPE THAT JOLIE VILLE ensure that this facility must carry on to be the most beautiful location in luxor by keeping the staff on the pay role through the quiet times till the tourist can return .
    • in July 10
The highlight of the hotel, apart from the beautiful setting must be the staff.
    • in March 10
Firstly the hotel is in a beautiful setting, especially if you do not want to stay in the middle of Luxor with all the noise and cars.
    • in January 10
I was so pleased to have chosen this hotel, which has a really beautiful setting.
    • in October 09
As said on previous reviews, beautiful setting with polite, helpful and courteous staff.
    • in November 10
A truly beautiful setting, at the side of the Nile on an island.
    • in October 10
The new owners (full credit to them) seem to be trying to turn this around and make the hotel what it should be given its fantastic location and grounds - they really are spectacular.
    • in August 10
Other than being slap-bang on the longest river on the planet, the location is fantastic in terms of Ancient sites.
    • in July 10
Despite its fantastic location (but watch out for mozzies in spring and autumn), good food and the incredibly friendly staff, I won't be staying here again.
    • in September 10
The free shuttle was far too infrequent for our liking (as someone else on here mentioned), in the evening it runs 5pm or 9pm which I find odd and inconvenient.
    • in December 10
The free shuttle bus to Luxor was helpful and runs fairly frequently.
    • in November 10
Free shuttle bus to Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor.
    • in October 10
Only 10 mins from central Luxor, you can take a free shuttle bus or pay £2 for a taxi.
    • in January 11
The location is great to go on excursions and just to chill out and do nothing too.
    • in January 11
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, nature reserve and great location close to Luxor.
    • in October 10
The location is great, just outside Luxor and you can please yourself weather you just relax by the pool or go out sightseeing.
    • in October 10
      The location is perfect.
    • in August 10
We all had a wonderfully relaxing holiday; we ate very well, were looked after by the hotel's friendly staff and loved the perfect location.
    • in April 10
The Good: The location is perfect and being on its own quiet island means that it is nice and quiet.
    • in January 10
The island location is perfect after a day in the hustle and bustle of Luxor or sightseeing.
    • in November 09
Despite the slighted dated appearance of the rooms, the hotel is in beautiful grounds, with lovely staff and a perfect location.
    • in October 10
The grounds are lovely, the location is superb but the hotel is definitely NOT 5* and is not what I expected at all.
    • in January 10
The only downsides - the shop is expensive compared to outside in Luxor, and don't buy milk from the bar!
    • in November 09
The trips to temples were expensive, but ran 7am till 1pm mostly, which was rushed but good for kids.

Gastronomy

    • in November 10
      the food is delicious!
    • in September 10

    • in July 10
The food was delicious and, although the choice in the buffet restaurant may not have been as extensive as in other hotels I have visited, there was lots of choice.
    • in February 10
The Gardens are stunning, beds are comfortable, rooms are a bit dated, new rooms are lovely, pool fantastic, food delicious, staff polite, friendly and attentive but not overbearing.
    • in February 10

    • in August 10
) totally worth it - the food is excellent but be warned the wine is expensive (between £20 - £50 depending what you drink!
    • in August 10
For the more refined there is the Le Fluer Restaurant, which serves excellent food and the price for that is not too bad, but the wine is somewhat expensive with a bottle costing upwards of 165 Egyptian pounds.
    • in February 10
The food is excellent and the buffets are varied and interesting.
    • in February 10
Food is excellent with a choice of three restaurants; service is cheerful, polite and sufficiently prompt.
    • in February 11
Food excellent as always - tip-top!
    • in December 10
The food ranged from adequate to abysmal (except for breakfast, which was always good.
    • in August 10
Breakfast was good, the buffet dinner was good too, but La Fleur was outstanding (though be warned long trousers are required for men).
    • in June 10
When it comes to food we found the breakfast to be very good, there are many breads and pastries, and and extensive hot and cold buffet.
    • in November 09
      Breakfast there was really good.
    • in January 11
The buffet was good too - though the layout of the tables and lighting in the buffet was not great at night - it was a bit noisy (echo) and lacked ambiance - I have seen buffet restaurants where this can be done better.
    • in December 10
the only negative issue was the food and the portion was not good at all although the breakfast open buffet is very good
    • in August 10
Breakfast was good, the buffet dinner was good too, but La Fleur was outstanding (though be warned long trousers are required for men).
    • in June 10
The buffet breakfast was good, with a wide selection of hot and cold foods and delicious breads and pastries.
    • in February 11
The buffet food was good in the main restaurant and for those on half board an allowance of 110 LE per person in La Fleur means paying only a couple of pounds more for a restaurant meal .
    • in February 11
The food was good and so was the service.
    • in January 11
The staff mostly pleasant and helpful, food was good, bad coffee.
    • in January 11
Back to the hotel it is extremely clean, rooms cleaned daily, fresh bedlinen and towels daily if required, theres a very friendly gym with excellent staff, food is very good here however it is much pricier than in luxor, also drinks are a lot more expensive too!
    • in January 11
The food is barely edible some nights in the main restaurant, though the new room service food was very good indeed.
    • in January 11
The bird life on the island, sitting by the Nile to eat dinner, the good food, helpful staff, cabins.
    • in December 10
We had a fab time 40 degrees on some days, idyllic setting, good food, lovely staff - waht more can I say.
    • in November 10
Food is generally very good and breakfast is fab.
    • in November 10
We also went on the hotel's felucca ride which was very nice with surprisingly good food and good company.
    • in November 10
Food is good and the Le Fleur is excellent (try the Veal medallions).
    • in October 10
you cannot fault the staff, they are wonderful and always helpful, the food is good quailty and plentyful but the grade of food has gone down and thier is not the same choice, the Kings bar is now a fast food outlet, we had to sit in the recepion at night to listen to the music as all the tables are taken up with guest eating food, the main resturant no longer has a dress code, guest are allowed to wear what they like.
    • in October 09
Just book at the reception If you dont fancy the restaurant food , room service food is great & a good money saver No hassle here , a perfect relaxtion holiday
    • in September 09
On a plus side the Le Fleur Restaraunt onsite was fantastic, food great and Koresha the Maitra D was a wonderful person, and the cleaners were lovely people as were the whole staff, apart from management who failed to even meet me when I complained about their over inflated price charging for drink.
    • in January 11
Ahmed the guy in the restaurant got Ibrahim the chef to meet her every night to show her whay contained nuts and what did not, Ibrahim and Ahmed deserve special aknowledgement, all the food was great too.
    • in January 11
However, the location and helpful staff make up for these things - wonderful grounds, wonderful views of the nile, fabulous pools, and great food - La Fleur, their intimate, a la carte restaurant is some of the best food we've had anywhere, and we do eat out in fine restaurants in London regularly.
    • in December 10
Besides the great food and service you get from this justifiable 5 star hotel the most amazing thing about this place is the abundant wildlife around the complex.
    • in August 10
Food looked great though admittedly due to the heat I had little appetite, but when I did eat I was more than happy and we didn't need to leave the complex, there was enough variety on the menus to allow us to eat there every night.
    • in April 10
The grounds are stunning, beautiful infinitey pool and the food was great.
    • in February 10
Food is great - the breakfast buffet is rumoured to be the best in Luxor and I can well believe it.
    • in February 10
The hotel is spotless and the food is great.
    • in March 10
We ate dinner at the BBQ and themed buffet and could always find something lovely.
    • in August 10
      - Fellas Tent, sail down the nile and back again to return to the Jolie Ville fellas tent, lots of traditional music, singing, dancing girls , snake (not charming) for photos, belly dancer who looked like she wanted to be somewhere else, magician who was pretty funny, whirling dervish was very impressive I felt dizzy just watching, food okay but a note to veggies do make sure of what food is veggie friendly as it is not marked, many do understand if you say you are vegetarian however you can say "Ana Nabatee" which is the Egyptian for I am a vegetarian.
    • in February 10
The food was ok, we ate from the bar every night but never tried the other restaurants as my other half is extremely fussy.
    • in January 10
      Food is OK (international).
    • in June 10
Alcohol is extremely expensive, 3 times the price it is in town so many people eat and drink in Luxor in the evening.
    • in May 10
There is little to do in the evening and the alcohol is very expensive around £8 for a Baileys!
    • in October 10
Alcohol was expensive – house wine LE40 (£4.
    • in August 10
Stayed here on 3 occasions and the only thing we could fault is the price of drinks but being a business and in Egypt we can understand why alcohol is expensive.
    • in July 10
As others on here have said, the drinks are more expensive than you would expect but details of drinks packages can be found in your room and these are well worth buying!
    • in May 10
      Drinks a bit expensive.

    • in February 10
expensive drinks (go downtown), friendly staff, excellent food, excruciating entertaintment in the King's bar, facilities dated but clean, good range of activities, good exchange rate at hotel bank (don't buy Egyptian pounds in U.
    • in January 10
There was also music by the pool at the Steigenberger, which was irritating and poolside drinks were very expensive.
    • in January 10
The drinks are very expensive so better to get a taxi and buy you own from one of the off licences in Luxor.
    • in October 09
      Drinks are very expensive.

Sport & Entertainment

    • in July 10
The pool areas were well maintained and the infinity pool was amazing, it looked like you could swim off into the Nile.
    • in January 11
The island, particularly the gardens, are beautiful.
    • in January 11
Excellent place to stay for a relaxing holiday with beautiful gardens and very attentive staff, as mentioned in other reviews there is a lot of work going on around the grounds but we didn’t hear any noise nor did we experience any inconvenience during our stay, we stayed in P block which I understand is one of the refurbished rooms, this block also has free WIFI in the rooms.
    • in January 11
Have been travelling throughout Egypt since 1969, Have stayed in most of the tourist areas and elsewhere The Joliville is without doubt one of the best Hotels one can stay at Beautiful gardens and very attentive staff although service has diminished slightly since Maritim Group took over from the Movenpick chain.
    • in August 10
Palm trees everywhere, beautiful gardens, excellent attentive staff, this place was heaven.

You have the benefit of the close proximity of Luxor Town and all the historic sites within a short Taxi ride combined with the tranquility of a resort that is more like having your own apartment set in beautiful gardens than a Hotel.

The gardens and surrounding grounds are as beautiful as ever, if you want to relax in an idyllic spot this is it!
    • in March 10
The hotel itself is in an excellent location with beautiful grounds and 2 fantastic pools, however, staff need some customer relations training(especially the front desk) and for a hotel this size to have one public bar with limited entertainment was attrocious.
    • in February 10
The island itself is a joy with its abundant birds and beautiful grounds.
    • in November 09
All that mattered is that they were spotlessly clean and comfy (even a pillow menu so you can ring housekeeping and change your pillow) Beautiful grounds and nice and relaxing – for a weeks holiday in the sun in November it was just the job.

    • in December 09
The infinity pool is great for the view, but the adult pool is so peaceful and the staff are pratically at your beck and call, a little tip (£5 egyption - less than £1 GBP) ensures you are always on their radar.
