We spent 11 relaxing days at the Sunrise Royal Makardi Hotel. We have stayed in Egypt 3 times now and have to say that this is the best hotel by far for amenities and services. The rooms where spacious and exceptionally clean as were all the communal areas.

Having re-read this review it feels a little preachy but I really do get annoyed by reading critical reviews of Hotels like this - as a family of four travelling at half term (We’re not chavvy enough to take our children out of school to save a few pounds) we paid £2500 - As a couple before we had children we paid £1500 more that that to stay at a sandals resort and great it was too, but put it into perspective - holidays at this price mean we are able to travel abroad a few time a year it is not a 5 star plus luxury resort for that you can spend upwards of £5000 for a family of four – This is not a holiday of a lifetime please make you reviews based on value for money (although If we had paid another £1000 it would still have been good value) We were planning a Las Vegas trip for the spring half term but have decided to go back to the Sunrise (The first time we have ever returned to the same hotel twice) Great holiday Thank you Sunrise Royal Makadi .

This hotel has everything you could want in a holiday - a large number of pools (2 heated in winter) plenty of restaurants, great beach, large rooms and excellent staff.

Wonderful place for a holiday; there are always lots of activities, like sport games, aerobics, evening shows and so on, the animation team is excellent, so you'll never get bored; the staff is very friendly - in December 09
lots of activities and on the beach next to the hotel, great place to snorquel just with mask and tubes you can admire wonderful colours of corals and colorfull fishes!

Ahmed and Ahmed in the Pergola Bar looked after us every night and made the best coffee in the hotel.

Unfortunately you do see tourists in bathrooms not washing their hands after using the loo (often British) and not using the hand sanitising gel that is present in all food locations – This in my opinion is the main reason for tummy upsets – You also see people again usually British laying in the Sun for 12 hours drinking nothing except alcohol – They turn up in the restaurants sporting a lobster colour and the following morning they are back in the sun trying desperately to get a Bennidorm badge – advice: take it easy even in October it is very hot or you will feel ill and get sick - drink loads of water – I drank plenty of Gin and Tonic (they have sapphire gin if you asked) and far too much wine (again Australian Shiraz is you ask) in the evenings, but I drank water all day long.

The drinks at the bars were excellent and the bar staff were always there when you had finished your drink to get you onther one.

The food in all restaurants is excellent and even in the main buffet restaurant we have never struggled to find anything to eat, they have turkey, beef, lamb, a pasta station all vegetables we get in the UK.
