Being one of the oldest hotels in Zurich, Baur au Lac is just great. Right in the middle of the city, situated by the lake and close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse, it stands up to its reputation. Each and every one of the guest is a VIP for the staff. The hotel is privately owned, small with about 124 rooms, 2 restaurants and a lounge bar. They have a fitness facility on the top floor with the beautiful view of the lake. The hotel building is about 170 years old. The rooms have a good view as well, some overlooking ... the hotel gardens and the lake while others with the city view. The rooms are big, beds comfortable and elaborate bathrooms with free WiFi access. All the guests are welcomed with a plate of fruits and water, which are changed everyday. The staff at the hotel are really very friendly and courteous. The front desk walks to your room and explains everything in there and are always smiling. If you want to go around the city, the concierge helps you out with all the arrangements. Want to go for a picnic by the lake, they will arrange a picnic basket for you as well. Baur au Lac offers 24 hour room service, a different menu after midnight. They also have their own garage where the cars are also given the VIP treatment. The 2 restaurants are worth going. Excellent service, good food. One of the restaurants, Le Francais, is just shy of a Michelin Star! It offers great french cuisine with exceptional taste. In the summer, this restaurant moves to the hotel gardens. The other casual dining restaurant and bar is called Rive Gauche is the place to be for all the bankers and others working around that area. One might be able to see a VIP and can have a drink with him or her. Overall this hotel is great and it caters to business and casual travelers. Its central location is an advantage and in spite of that, the hotel has a feel of a resort in the countryside. If you like to be treated as a VIP, Baur au Lac is the place. read hotel review

After many disappointments in Switzerland we know now finally why the swiss hotel is the best the world shall apply. Who lives here, has the best selected what you as a hotel imagine. The size and the number of rooms i can't say. The house is a classic Grandhotel, the but also the amenities of the 21. century perfectly integrated. It belongs to the leading hotels of the world. We already have visited, but this house carries the title with good reason. International guests, businessmen, jet set, a-celebrities of all ages read hotel review

    As leading guests we had a normal double room booked. Upon arrival we were given the choice: either an upgrade to a large suite with a terrace and views of the Zürich-lake in the classic baur au lac style or a junior suite in the freshly renovated style. We decided for the freshly renovated junior suite (to visit the large suite). The rest are the high loaded pictures speak...

    The only, small weak point was the breakfast buffet. The selection could have been a little more substantial (at least that was our expectation). The quality and quantity was excellent. To note it is however, that one in Switzerland and the prices are significantly higher as in Germany is.

    We have rarely seen such a perfect service. Excellent trained staff at the reception. Room cleaning was great. We smashed a glass, then the whole room completely cleaned! Cause for complaints did not give.

    The hotel is, only by the main street separately, directly at the Zürich-lake. The famous bahnhofstrasse is about 5-minute walk away. To the airport circa 30 minutes' drive.

I stayed at the Baur au Lac when I was in for Art Basel and cannot speak well enough of the hotel. Wonderful staff, wonderful rooms with sumptuous baths. Breakfast is a must at the hotel, I went down to the pavilion every morning for tea, espresso and Birchermuesli, you also get a small glass of fresh vitamin juice. Another great gem is the wine store in the hotel. read hotel review

If you can afford it and in Zurich on business to do-there is no alternative to this house. The willingness to help of the concierges literally, the sonntäglicher blowouts a not bring peace. It concerns the nerves of the score as well as excellent, as for the new tire. Chapeau! read hotel review

This hotels website states it's just had a rennovation. The front desk admitted it was 6-7 years ago. So who knows when it was. While our rooms are spacious the meaning of luxury has not been achieved here. Bathtubs with dripping shower curtains, small tv's, very basic mini bar choices, worn carpeting, two small matresses pushed together to make a larger bed - unfortunatley they slip apart during the nights sleep. I've had the air conditioning on all night and finally opened the balcony doors to let in some cold air, and all the traffic noise. read hotel review

Everything fine except that the same lapse in service (failure to pick up bags from room) occurred twice during a two-day stay (we left at different times). Even worse, no apologies from staff. read hotel review
