We were on the most beautiful spot the world our wedding partying and experience. There are certainly just beautiful places in the world. However more beautiful? We were pampered and pampered, couldn't be better. The hotel is no modern hotel with all and wellness options. But it is a house that one cannot forget and for certain again and again returns. Somewhat remote but very promising location. The historic furniture is already getting a bit old. Overall, a 4-star standard only very scarcely reached. The Tapis Rouge test would like, should make for the full menu already 4a 5 hours time. Be careful: at the beginning, a exotic Aperitif is served. You get the impression, this offers is. Only when the bill came the large awakening. Parking (2 or more cars in a row ) for a four-star hotel not acceptable. We had a garage reserved. read more

Historic hotel, the you because of great location, the story and the atmosphere visited. We have our stay very enjoyed, even, because the secluded location very good can get away from it all. Rooms are nice, well equipped ( flat screen), spacious. Beautifully also the idea of the free drinks bar on the floor. Great lounges. Food in the restaurant Les Cascades good and reasonably priced-in similar locations you pay a hefty ' view extra charge '. Particularly positive we noticed, that in all areas unusual foods staff works- swiss German is the most listened to language! read more

This is not conducive in 70er Grand hotel is the best choice. If you enter the venerable piles, blows a " old " smell. " historic " Can you present different, sorry... the location is second to none, but for the price you would expect more quality of the room (tube television, small and broken shower, furniture etc. not only looked old... etc.) A thorough renovation and a spa area would be more appropriate. In this condition, the hotel is only very conditionally recommendable. read more

A friend of mine got married there and we decided to stay a few more days to relax and enjoy nature. The view is fantastic, the air is pure, the rooms are big (with a view over the lake) and the furnishings are antique. Quite nice! We had dinner at the gourmet-restaurant and it was delicious! The pianist at the bar played my favorite songs. It was like going back in time. Loved it! read more

Probably the best hotel I visited in the latest 5 years. Unique position, very confortable and with a very professional hotel staff. Very indicated for family with child and couple for a very romantique week. The restaurant is very good but with a little high prices, in particular the wine cart. read more

This castle-like hotel is a perfect mix between the quaint and the luxurious. It is completely secluded from the town of Brienz across the lake, and is only reachable to most visitors by boat (3 times a day) or shuttle bus (also 3 times a day). If you have a car you can drive up an extremely windy, narrow road and park behind the hotel. During our stay, it seemed the majority of guests were older European couples on vacation but also a few families from the US and elsewhere. Their two restaurants are extremely tasty, and sometimes your only ... option, due to the difficulty of getting around town in the evening. The best part about the hotel is its proximity to the Brienzersee and Giessbach waterfall. Situated directly between both areas of water, it is a treat to walk outside and see such stunning landscape in front of you and hear the roar of the water behind you. I have never stayed at a place so perfect in this regard. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a secluded, romantic getaway in the Bernese Oberland region, far enough away from the heavy tourism of Interlaken or the ski resorts above, but close enough to get to with an hour of travel. read more

    Our room was very clean, quaint and traditional looking. We had a "Romantic Double" room with a balcony overlooking the Giessbach waterfall which was perfect. There was a small TV, but it was more than enough to simply be in this wonderful environment so we never turned it on. A large, freestanding wood closet was next to the bed to store coats and other belongings. Also, there was a sink and mirror built into the wall in the main room, so that one person can clean up while the other person is in the washroom. My only complaint was with the pillows, which were a little difficult to sleep on, because they had Otno firmness. her than that, a great little room.

    While it was difficult for our stomaches to adjust to European cuisine right away, we still greatly enjoyed both hotel restaurants, The Parkrestaurant and Chez Florent. We ate breakfast at the Parkrestaurant every morning and also had at least two very good dinners here. For our night of splurging we went to Chez Florent, the gourmet restaurant on the other side of the hotel. An extremely enjoyable and romantic evening with only 5 other tables in the room, looking out over the lake. Highly recommended.

    We were impressed with the staff and also the kindness of other guests. It felt like everyone knew they are in a special place high up in this mountain, far away from every day life, and so the attitude of everyone was great. Almost every staff member spoke English and were more than happy to help if we had a question or concern. One night when we were stranded in Brienz after missing the last shuttle back, they phoned in a taxi for us, and within 3 minutes the taxi was there to take us home. Overall a very courteous and accommodating staff.

    We were not too interested in the pool or tennis court behind the hotel, because of all the hiking possibilities and of course the nearby train rides to Lauterbrunnen, Muerren etc. via Interlaken, which kept us busy for days. The first thing to do, of course, is take the hike up to the top of the Giessbach waterfall. If you're adventurous, go all the way to Axalp (a much longer hike) where a military airbase resides nearby. You can even hike back to Brienz in a roundabout way. It's definitely a playground for those who love the outdoors.

    The Grandhotel Giessbach's location is a double-edged sword: one the one hand, it is completely isolated on the top of a cliff, with dense forests and the huge Brienzersee all around. It creates a natural ambience that is hard to beat. On the other hand, it is difficult to travel around if you don't have a car. With only 3 boat or shuttle bus rides a day to and from the Giessbach, you are fairly limited with travel plans and where to eat at night. A taxi ride from Brienz to the hotel will cost you around 30 CHF which will add up if you do this regularly. But even with this slight issue, it is a place where you will not even want to leave much, because of its beautiful scenery and surroundings, an enchanting place ready for you to discover.
