Hotel Alexander the Great Beach^{(4 stars)}

The cleanliness of the rooms is poor. On arrival we found in the bathroom stains and toothpaste leftovers from the previous tenant and also hair were available. During our entire stay we had not the feeling, that once cleaned. Merely the towels were exchanged. From the ants in the room I start not at all only at...

The conditions in the restaurant were catastrophic. The cushions on the chairs have old stains exhibited. During dinner there were still crumbs from the breakfast on the chairs. Positively mentioned should be is, that after each guest the tables new were covered, so that you at least clean tables had. The dishes were qualitatively badly. In the morning, there was for the whole hotel guests a basket bread for selberschneiden. The marmelade, quark dishes and similar were in large open glasschalen ready, so germs, bacteria, etc. Free access to the food found. Covers the food, there was no. Evenings the food was very oilily and the chicken dry. Alltogether it was very unhygienic, so I don't have the food could enjoy. Luckily there is a further tavern on the hotel, with a flair typical of the country and good service to eat and enjoyment invites.

Here does not exist lots to say. The service was bad, the staff unfriendly and complaints at the front desk one was with inappropriate jokes comforted. Knowledge of German of the staff, not even the map of the hotel were not available. Our complaint because ingress of water from the bathroom above us, was ignored. Daily we have at the front desk asked and even with the manager spoken, every time we were with other excuses put off and for the return trip even experienced, that this room on the same day the same compensation will, without the problem fixed to have. Sporting activities were not available. Entertainment was poor. In one week there was a greek dance evening. The pool is small and has at best for 20 persons space. Internet there were only in the lobby.

The hotel complex makes on the first glance a good impression. The gardens are well-kept and the entrance area is warm and inviting. However after closer look at clear, that the hotel already some years behind itself. It is run-down and has some major flaws and damage. The German quality standards it as four star hotel by far not enough. 2 stars we would at best recommend. The half board is worthwhile in this hotel not. The food is not only for breakfast, but also during dinner little varied and poor quality. It arouses the impression, that the hotel more on eastern and southern europe guests is adjusted.

The location of the hotel is for a pure beach vacation great. No 2 minute walk to the hotel's own beach. And for people who are poor walkers, persons there is even a small elevator down. The beach is very clean and the sea turquoise blue. Loungers with sun screen are relatively cheap. However is no larger place nearby, so that one already a rental car to the exploration the region needs. From the airport in Thessaloniki you need by bus approximately 2 hours to the hotel. One is mobile there are a lot of to see. The region chalkidiki is very diverse and inviting again and again to stop a, around the crazy great environment to enjoy, in the locals taverns though or the atmosphere on a greek market to experience. Culturally, the region has a lot to offer. So is for example the mönchsrepublik athos a worthy destination or the stalactite cave in petralona.

My suite was wonderful with everything inside, and such a view..!

Excellent Greek food, as well as Italian cuisine, because of a fantastic Sicilian chef.He even prepared for us the famous Sicilian "arancino"!

Everybody in hotel Alexander the Great were so helpful and made me feel really like a BRIDE and i am so happy that all my guests left satisfied too.!We had guests from UK, Italy and South Corea,and all the stuff were speaking fluently My suite was beautiful,and the guests liked their rooms too The only thing missing,was variety in room service menu in the "afterhours"..But there was a mini shop open until late,so..

Beautiful pool, but we were all day in the beach, so forget about the pool guys and go to the beach ..the sea is fantastic!!!

The best week of my life! Ok, i understand that this was my marriage, and it may sound normal and a little bit cliché to say something like that ,but on the other hand you know that the last few days before the wedding are very stressfull, and a lot of things, many many things,can make the bride nervous!!! This didn' t happen to me ..Only good things happened and i must thank everybody in the hotel for that. So,many thanks to everybody who made this possible :-)

I have to say that,even though i have been to many places for vacations,nowhere have i felt that i can enjoy better MY free time.. The landscape is magical..full of pines,everywhere, and so close to the sea..The beach is a dream..white sand,light green water- this is because of the pines- warm and so clean, and just in front of the hotel..and the hotel and its surroundings, also excellent,such a big place,full of plants and trees and paths..!

The rooms could be larger, were but sufficient. Furniture was no German standard and nothing special. It was our room for three persons provided. Since we only as a couple were, you simply both beds pushed together, you looked at the wood panelling on the headboard (see picture). Therefore, we had a mattress to about 0.80 meters and a about 1.20 meters, the whole pushed together. Just as mattresses lapped and no bed frame was available, these are of course always apart slipped. Air conditioning was noisy and only worked, if the key and all window and doors were closed. At night the best balcony door on overhead make, since the room fast aufheizt and the noise of the airconditioning cannot sleep. TV in the room, two German channels were available ( ARD and RTL). Spacious balcony with comfortable seating possibility, lamp and (on the positive side!) a small towel rack. Mini bar with standardausstattung ( juices, sodas, alcohol, snacks). Safe for a fee in the closet. Room very badly soundproofed, as the gap under the door quite large and we a room nearby the elevator had and thus hear everything. Bathroom was small and old. Sometimes the mountings ( towel racks, etc.) the rust from. The ceiling was very low. The shower head hung directly under the ceiling and I (1.70 meters) had not more lots of space under the shower head, large people stayed here definitely a problem. In addition the above mentioned problem, that every evening the bathroom underwater beach. In summary one could say, that the room always clean was, but definitely must be renovated.

The hotel like already written about a restaurant and a bar& pool- and beach bar. Breakfast (7:00 until: o'clock): a catastrophe! Monotonous breakfast. Everything was swimming in oil. There was only one type of cheese and a sort of cold cuts, the hotel was rather bad. Every morning there was boiled eggs, where the egg yolk a grey edge& scrambled egg, the every day was different. Time with tomatoes and peppers, time with cheese and reibekäse scolloped, from and to also' normal' scrambled egg. A lot was in puff pastry prepared. All three days there was a small rolls, besides that normal bread, the aufgetoastet could be. If there is no small rolls gave, with cheese fried toast. One morning there were really fried toast triangles! Otherwise there was every morning canned peaches, sheep cheese, yoghurt, muesli, a jams and a nutella, the more appeared as (prisoners) schei ** in oil. Partly three different juices. Here definitely the oranges take, this is also really orange juice. We know today not what the yellow or red juice were. Tables were never completely set. There were per four -persons-table in section two mugs and a teaspoon. Salt and pepper was also not always available, sometimes only salt or pepper. Dinner (19:00 until: o'clock): better than the breakfast. Wide selection of salads, for example mixed salads, green salad, noddle salad, etc. Every day pasta with different (partially greasy) sauces. Alternating meat- or fish dishes. But absolutely no German standard. Little greek specialties. Every 2. evening' show cooking', where a chef just all together in a pan mixed has. One evening there was risotto, but a paella was, at the time of but nevertheless tasty. Generally: tables were only meagerly cleared. Every morning were minutes 5-6 tables not cleared when we arrived, as we went was still and the waiters are even for breakfast. On the first morning we dead ants in the muesli discovered and a night ants on the cover salad bar langgelaufen. Atmosphere in the morning was very tiring, evenings ( if you are going to the' normal' time food was) extremely hectic and uncomfortable. Individual things were also always fast weggeplündert, especially the fruit plates, which then sparsely and slow refilled. Individual meals are not signposted/selects what it is. Definitely the menu planning in the entrance read, so is easier to define what you it. Evenings we often had the feeling, that the' chefs', the in the dining room anyway, rather ferienjober as chefs were.

There we early in Thessaloniki landed, we have an early -check in requested, whereupon we answered, you would do this to permit. In the little friendly welcome on site was called it in 30 to 60 minutes would be our room ready, you would on us to come and answer. After two hours and several requests, we were again active and at once the room was free, as the' normal' check in then already begun. Of course was the early check in only on request and not guaranteed, but in my opinion you should then no information as' in a half hour until hour is your room fertig' make. One has not as a welcome guest comfortable. One had rather the feeling processed and an inconvenience. Generally except for a few exceptions the staff unfriendly, arrogant and unhelpful. Mostly all English spoken. One could not expect, that speak German was. On the first evening our bathroom underwater after we both successively showers were. Of al we this the front desk told had, came a technician, the sewage durchspülte. Unfortunately this so nothing at all and our bathroom was each evening underwater. On the 'complaint' at the front desk were taken seriously, but this was not really taken serious. On our advertising, that also two outlets not went, the technician not do that, because it is just greek spoke-we unfortunately not. Daily cleaning of the rooms, towels& bed sheets are however only all three days changed. For a city hotel it would be entirely appropriate, but because it is a beach hotel is, you every day in the sun is, is sun cream, every day shower, etc. Would be a more often change better. Or at least, that you can choose, whether you fresh towels wishes (on the floor for example). Room changing are here at the order of the day. Two German couple, the with us arrived, have their room changed.

It is a tennis court, as well as a goal and basketball hoop, the individual guests used, available. However there is no animation or kids club, but a playground the familienhäusern. Mini -supermarket in the main building available, the stamps on German books to Ouzo and fresh fruits has everything. Price as in the outdoor pool (1,5l of water 0.85 Euro, 0.5 liter nestea 1.80 Euro, magnum -ice 2.20 Euro). It is a small pool available, whose cleanliness, etc. We however cannot rate, since we were here only at the beach anyway. This was however a dream! Long sandy beach, clear, clean water. With good reason with the blue flag. Two chairs and an umbrella to 4 Euro per day ( price at the front desk). Enough distance to the nachbarliegen, you had always enough privacy. Every umbrella there was a small' garbage bin', the hotel employees regularly emptied is. On the beach, there was two showers, a beach volley field and covered places to sit near the beach bar. Wednesday and at the weekend there was grilled souvlaki with bread (a spit and a slice of bread 1.50 Euro) and freshly squeezed juices and milkshakes. Also at the beach bar price as in the outdoor pool (0.33 liter Cola/ Sprite 2.00 Euro, magnum 2.10 Euro,...)

The hotel lies at a hillside with breathtaking views of the hotel's own sandy beach, the a steep staircase (140 steps) or a lift reachable is. Outwardly very nice, well-kept complex with olives and limettenbäumchen, palm trees, etc. This is divided into a five-storey main building with lobby, front desk and mini -supermarket ( entrance side) and several separate familienhäuser. In a separate building is the restaurant roxani, in which breakfast and dinner take place, the bar Kassandra and a small aigner boutique. The hotel offers however only half board, all inclusive is not offered! About the guest structure you have to unfortunately say, that during our stay many eastern europeans anyway. The travel guide from mitreisenden could confirm, that the hotel in August primarily romanians, and in September of russians booked. Isolated also German couple respectively families met. Generally there were all age groups represented.

The hotel Alexander the great lies in the middle the westernmost peninsula Kassandra. Next places are kallithea in the north and kriopigi in the south, which by bus ( stop directly in front of the hotel) reachable are. Two adults after kallithea costs (noisy indication of traveling companions ) 3.20 Euro, with the taxi circa 7.00 Euro. Transfer time to the airport Thessaloniki between and minutes, depending on stops at other hotels. Rental car you can at the front desk order, the next europcar station is in kallithea, about 1 kilometer away.

We booked a seaview twin room, and on arrival were allocated a wall view double room room in one of the cottages which looked as though it had been created by blocking off the end of a corridor! Returning to reception saw us being allocated a twin room at the back of the hotel with the timiest bathroom imaginable, and with a shower tray which was so shallow it overflowed over the bathroom floor every time it was used. The next day we were allocated a sea view room which was much bigger and better, although the furnishings and fittings were tired, the electric sockets were all loose, and the exposed pipework in the bathroom was stained and rusty. No amenites were provided apart from a tiny bar of soap

Food in the main restaurant was fine if you like eggs which was all that seemed to be on offer for breakfast, and the whole dining experience resembled the Chimps' tea party at the zoo with hordes of people grabbing food off the buffet with no consideration for others. The floor around the buffet was lethal at times with dropped food and spilt drinks, and it wasn't always cleared up promptly. The "Taverna" on the lower level was better in terms of ambience and service, but there was too much on the menu which was unavailable for the entire week we were there. Price wise the restaurant was very expensive - we noted that the evening buffet was 29 euro a person - we managed to eat a 2-3 course meal with drinks for both of us in the nearby villages for the 29-30 euros.

There are flashes of excellence - some staff are very good and helpful - others couldn't give a toss. One receptionist finished dealing with the couple in front of me when trying to check in, and just walked away with no explanation, leaving her colleague on his own to deal with a queue of about 5 couples, waiters in the restaurant took ages to refill the buffet and clear tables. Staff at the taverna were excellent - but why only one waitress even at busy times?

There was no animation team (thankfully) but that also meant there were no organised activities either. It was a case of bring your own water toys and organise your own games. We didn't notice any entertainment at all in the 6 days we were there. The whole system was set up to make sure that guests were all forced down to the beach to sunbathe on the income earning beds. Aoround the pool there were only half a dozen sunbeds with one umbrella, and a few tables and hard chairs - so not a comfortable option. The main pool was very deep (all one depth) which was not apparent straight away On site shop was very expensive WiFi had to be paid for and was only available in the overheated badly lit lobby - (badly lit as guests unplugged the ambient lighting to power their laptops) Beach was beautiful, but got a bit grubby by the end of the day due to litter and cigarette butts. Staff tried to clean up but guests were just dirty so and sos who didn't use the receptacles provided

The hotel is very run down with old and shabby furniture in both the bedrooms and private room. There is insufficent parking on site and late arrivals are required to park in an un secured field across the busy road - it would help a lot if bays were marked to stop inconsiderate/ incompetent parking where some cars take up 2 or even 3 spaces. From the outside, the site is idyllic, with well maintained gardens, but inside needs a lot of work. Wifi is only available in the hotel lobby, and as a resul;, all the sidelights and table lamps are unplugged so that visitors can use their laptops - this lobby is also stiflingly hot - with no airconditioning, and the problem isn't helped by the greenhouse tagged on to the rear. The only saving grace is the beach, but the experience is spoilt by the fact that umbrella (which is tiny) and sunbeds have to be paid for. Guests also reserve the prime beds overnight. For those who prefer to relax around the pool - there were only 5 sunbeds and a few tables and chairs available - not good

The grounds are well maintained, and the beach is very good, although it does get dirty with litter and cigarette butts. The cliff railway down from the hotel is intriguing, but inadequate for the number of guests using it. It is located not too far from Kriopigi and Kallithea villages with their many restaurants and shops, which is just as well as the onsite restaurant is poor and the shop is very overpriced
