The hotel we have to the end of the season visited. All employees were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located somewhat away from Malia, however the way on footh of 20 minutes ( car a maximum of 5 minutes ) to the sea respectively to the center didn't bother us. There only 6 guests in the house were us the breakfast individually provided. Everything was very nicely and attentive decorated. I would the hotel for couples definitely recommendable. read more

Informally run hotel to relax and as a starting point for excursions ( car required- also at the front desk be booked) we were instead of ours, over the tour operator booked room, a superior room offered, whereby the price at booking only for one person quoted (!), although it is a double room and also only in the pay then we were told, that the price per person. Room was also great, good view and very clean and bright, air conditioning, safe and fridge than included. As mentioned in lots of reviews to read was, are in the neighborhood ... lots of dogs, what not kept species-appropriate and as a result then day and night with Dauergebell respond, but this is not about the hotel respectively the management and employees. It is a great view over the town to the sea without echoing off or animation to be seen.
The food is freshly cooked, yes but also leftovers of days before with processed, but everything tasty. What we missed was an' Greek Abend' with typical specialties.
On the day of departure we were half an hour before breakfast picked up, what we also in the evening previously pointed out, it was however not made possible have been, rather for breakfast, although the employees already with the preparation were employed. So we had to go hungry to leave and on the sandwich in the airplane wait. That was for us a downside in the service, since we this meal as a part of the half board with had paid. read more

I was end of the season and enjoyed a week vacation with the racing bike made. Therefore were shopping opportunities in the area and the traffic connections secondary for me, but good and available. The hotel is of a family run, the long in d lived and accordingly good german sprichtt. All are very pleasant, cooperative and attentive. Excellent value for money and altogether a great experience, is definitely recommendable! read more

Family-run small hotel with a lot of charm and hospitality.
Specialization on guests from D, A, CH, NL, and gigabyte. Great for tourists and enterprising.
Because the hotel circa 15-minute walk away from beach is, you had the advantage the parties gets to May. WiFi is included! Half board in buffet-Form and with plenty of variety for travelers with 1 week stay. Pool, jacuzzi and the other Hygiene is impeccable. If you sociable and evenings not in the room includes can at the bar also wonderful conversation with staff and hosts lead. The observed guests clientele ranges from families with ... small children on the youth to pension recipients. Overall I can the current extremely high recommendation rate only confirm and all a visit recommend. read more

A really beautiful, informally run hotel, in the we felt very much at ease. It is right here in this forum mostly reviewed positively. In particular the pleasant ambience, the simple fact is, that you here much easier to other guests contact gets as in one of the Barracks, the but also because of the kind care by hotelier develops, certainly have their share of the relaxation factor.
It was our first time in Greece and admittedly due to the political location with mixed feelings come. As in the travel agency requested, we were in a 'small' ( according the homepage 200 persons-) hotel accommodated, the hotel Matheo.
We had a standard room with half board booked. After arrival we were for a extra charge of 25 euros per night a 'suite' on the grounds offered. To visit the great and spacious suite we have however for our standard room with beautiful view of the sea and views across Malia decided. This was enough for us, since we anyway only for sleeping there anyway.
During our stay ( between the summer- and fall in Germany) was ... the guest structure very mixed and absolutely pleasant. At the age of around 20 to 70 and persons different nationalities ( mainly German and swiss) the hotel was not overcrowded and you came quickly with other travellers to the conversation. The hotel complex is altogether very tidy and clean. The anlagenbilder agree absolutely with the reality match.
Yes, there are road animals (dogs and cats) in Greece. And surprise yes, this move also times in the hotel complex ( only outside!). How can it however be different, that cats arrange vacations place to hang out, if these of these fed and stroked are. For this the hotel can however nothing. Therefore understand the negative statements other reviewer not. For our stay ran in two evenings ( afterwards this was not seen) a young tame dog on the terrace rum and the other evenings a few young cats. The animals were however never intrusive or annoying. You leave these 'left' they are also fast away. To consultation with other vacations in other hotels is this problem but everywhere directly. So either you live so, or you can go into a fully self-contained hotel, or are looking for even another holiday destination! read more

We had extra a small, informal hotel booked, the mass tourism to be missed. Unfortunately was in the hotel much value on German kitchen put. On pork and mashed potatoes I can in the greece vacation well do without. Unfortunately there was no fruit ( except once grapes to the dessert). The mandatory greek salad was rather carelessly and was 40 per cent from large zwiebelstücken. With small changes, as offering regional cuisine, fresh fruit ( no canned peaches) and vegetables could have been much be improved.
The room is for three stars reasonable, unfortunately was missing in the bathroom ... a shower curtain.
Have a great boat trip, which in the hotel offered. Whoever toursitenabfertigung is happy, otherwise no thank you. Waste from the boat into the sea tilting and Russian guests have also with their food, the fish attracted. Also advertise, that one dolphin can see, we didn't see.
Rather car rent and with the boat on chrissi Iceland drive. Turquoise sea, like in the paradise-)
To the place: we knew, that the Ballermann the british is, because the peaceful location, then nevertheless for the hotel decided. There are many disco's and bars everywhere promoter, the A in the bar or disco want to attract, this can be very strenuous.

2. location and the surroundings
The location is very nice and you get from the noise from the street from the noise from the nightlife district Malia something with. It is therefore really peacefully located, if you from the faucet-, dogs and ziegenlauten mind, the neighboring property come, it's expense.

For breakfast it was really managed, two weeks always the same anzu-offer. Time something missing, but it came definitely never something to add, which possibly for a small surprise the guest could sure. We brought coffee, juice amongst others even with.
Who however not place on time was, had seen bad luck; then it was called, the food what übrigblieb. So it was unfortunately with the dinner. The dinner was apart from that reasonable, however they knew also here if you the dinner had taken, what it on the next day give. Of greek food was unfortunately nothing to remember, except for the Tzatziki and the olives. Apart from that there was lasagna, pasta, potatoes, pigs -meat, casseroles, fricassee etc. We enjoyed it, but it was certainly not everyone-manns thing.
Fruit there was never fresh, but only from the can, what a country as Greece a v��l - ligwa no-go is!
5. sport, pool, entertainment
The offered table was unfortunately now already 100 years too old, to use it and the ping pong table, which we gladly would have been used, could because of the missing 2. scoop not be used. Here one could really a scoop buy, the more than a wooden plank is. But probably is always hoped, that there is someone, the time just a bring along.
The pool is clean, well-kept and we have also often used. The umbrella and the loungers are free of charge. The jacuzzi, the on the complex is, we also used and is really a beautiful idea. Wifi is on the complex free, which is also very good.
6. room
We had a double room with lateral view of the sea booked. What us expected, was a room in a size of a single room with two beds. It was no possibility, to 2 in the room, if not an on the bed was. Closet was not really available and the bathroom was without shower curtain really completely underwater, which meant, its things before in safety should serve. The view of the sea complimented by views of the domestics for the food next to the dustbin from. So we have to a different room asked. It was nice, that this possibility there is. Unfortunately is, of course first the pay room to look at is. But well, we really for the suite decided, the then 30,00 Euro/day more costs and received our view of the sea of a large terrace and a massive room with a large bathroom and thus we were very satisfied.
7. tips and recommendation
The hotel is for a three stars hotel recommendable, if you the described points-bin knows. We are when booking of the many reviews ran out and were therefore simply disappointed, that a lot not true. The two weeks in matheo was good, we have a lot with humor, as a vacation for relaxing should be. So try it! read more

The hotel has a large well-kept complex, the pool area is clean and modern. With the pool area connected terrace, on the you comfortable in the shade sit and during dinner times food, is in green surroundings and inviting with comfortable furniture for relaxing (/ relaxing meal) a.
Our room was very clean and the direct view of the sea looked, as pictured. The rooms are with few furniture modern furnished. -even a flat screen tv is ready.
Both the breakfast, as well as the dinner is in buffet form offered. In the morning it is hardly divergent, but there ... is a colorful variety of breakfast ( yoghurt, muesli, cheese and sausage, and so on), so that there is something for everyone there. The dinner in the 12 days, in which we were there, not once (!) repeatedly. Every evening there was another delicious menu ( of grilled, on käsespätzle, to greek specialties, or pasta). It was evenings always a large salad buffet built and also a dessert there were every time.
The majority of the guests came from Germany or Switzerland. The average age was at about 40 years. read more

The hotel is from a family run, which almost the whole day for concerns of the hotel, but also excursion plans and talk are available. They are - as well as the remaining staff - always friendly and in a good mood. Almost all speak really good German and English. The former is also necessary, since a big part of the guests - including lots of regular guests - from the German-speaking area comes.
The rooms are clean, -on Sunday - cleaned daily, bed sheet weekly, towels semiweekly changed. The bathroom is for southern standards quite large. Our shower ( ... I don't know, whether the represent is) had however no curtain, so the bathroom to the shower always underwater beach. Air conditioning, fridge and safe cost extra. Therefore I recommend the booking a suite at a low extra charge ( with availability still possible). There are all the extras included, the rooms are bigger and there are - for couples especially important - a general bed without crack in the middle.
The breakfast buffet was varied: eggs, sausage, sausage, cheese, vegetables, Jams, honey, muesli, cereal, sweet Pastries. As varied was the dinner buffet, which several salads, varied main menu ( for example breaded fish, Souvlaki, Lasagna, Ratatoille, fries, pasta, risotto) and desserts (mostly Schokomousse, fruit, ice) included.
The location of the hotel is easy off the beaten track and it was very quiet - merely stray hundebellen for and songs of birds disturb sleep. Nevertheless are beach, bars, restaurants and the party place within walking within 10 to 15 minutes reachable. For people, the rather traditional Greek evening want to spend, this old Malia (10 minutes on foot), for the, the it rather loud (and English) to have want, the Partystraßen in the newer part Malias (15 minutes on foot). The hillside of the hotel should only especially Fußschwache disturb. Alternatively you could also its rental car on the hotel's own parking free parking. Particularly the view of the sea from the balcony makes up for the slight March every time again.

Our vacation in Hotel Matheo was really great! We especially enjoyed the cleanliness the entire area and the staff's hospitality. We were always very helpful and friendly treated. The climate in the hotel is very easy going and relaxed: really perfect to enjoy and relax!
Our superior -room had a big balcony with a dreamlike view over the sea, the mountains and the city. Also the interior furnishing the room was perfect, even if you itself on an island as Kreta definitely not many in the room stay. The room would be cleaned daily ( except on Sunday) and the ... towels were also regularly changed. Altogether is the entire area very clean and tidy!
As mentioned in lots of reviews written, recommend also we definitely the rent, a cars ( or rollers/quad etc.), to the wonderful island to explore ( just in the mountains and the small mountain villages and valleys discover, a dream!).
Somewhat we found it a shame that the food not to our taste, respectively the salads and the dessert somewhat one-sided were. There is surely still potential of improvement. But the great view from the terrace and fair drink prices compensate the.
The travel time middle September was great: during the day the 27 degrees, every day sun and at night as well still so warm, that one in the T-shirt The temperature of the water was also still warm.
Therefore, the Hotel Matheo definitely recommendable! read more
