We were greeted by a airline company in this hotel building, because our flight from Punta Cana from technical reasons paint had. We were with buses after santo domingo stituents. It came so on 200 persons at the same time in this hotel at, all checked in. With all understand, that for a hotel definitely a very stressful and not everyday situation is. The front desk was only occupied by one person. The 2. employees disappeared with the sight of the crowds in the restaurant, picked a plate with food and twisted in a backroom. Understandably was a staff was ... overburdened and accordingly extremely annoyed and unfriendly. Of al we after several hours finally a room had, worked unfortunately the light, since a problem with the reader in the room stock. As then turned out had some guests this problem. At the front desk you had no ear for us, as you still with the checking in was busy. Solid 6 times we were with a new coded map comforted and a stupid saying, we will bite the card correctly tuck in. When we a new room demanded, came finally one of the staff, the problem however also initially could not resolve. To about 3 hours we had finally light and wished us at the sight of the room again dark. The room was run-down, the carpet absolutely disgusting and dirty. Everywhere were stains and a vacuum cleaner had the carpet obviously hadn't seen. On the glasses were stains and fingerprints. The walls were filthy and dirty. The mini bar was empty. It was full mold, hair and stains. The bathroom was dirty and full of mold. The windows were not clean either, and fully black dust. The odor in the room was intolerable. Bitingly and rotten. One dared hardly, touching anything. This hotel is at best a 2 star category. The breakfast buffet was very poor and the food clearly stale. Drinks we were not offered, we could at best the syrups-juice from the machine can, unfortunately were at the table no glasses set and the waiters spoke no english (or didn't speak). In the bathroom was a basket with soap etc. And a tag' if more toiletries need, don't hesitate, at the front desk to questions. ' as we friendly to toothbrushes questions, raunte the receptionist only back' i don't think we have that. Go and buy. ' thanks. Everybody was visibly irritated. I have never been in a hotel so unfriendly treated and so unwanted comfortable. I have business very often in various hotels stayed in, this is the dirtiest, that i've ever seen. Absolutely not recommendable. read more

Central hotel at the Av. Maximo Gomez, good service (with karbiktypischen downsides), friendly staff, nice small pool area ( for the location relatively large); from street penetrates however considerable transport and ( evenings) disco noise into the room (to the sixth floor). But Santo Domingo is just generally a loud, be considerably busier-something, gladly also times chaotic place. If you quiet and touristic - like, should a hotel in the colonial old town select. read more

Nice hotel for a city break for 1-2 nights to Santo Domingo. The hotel has the same room and comfort barcelo hotel like many others (Japanese restaurant Kyoto, Barcelo U-spa area, B-rooms) and for a city hotel is almost comparable facilities such as: the Barcelo palace deluxe in Punta Cana. The buffet in the restaurant 'B-sina' is, in my opinion, could be improved and the service worked not like the other Barcelo hotels in the cathedral. Republic of all in all the food and drinks were but tasted great. The hotel switched in Santo Domingo except standard ' B-rooms a ... club premium premium rooms. The club premium should be a view from the top of the city-on this I can nothing letter. As I was not included, think the service comparable, like in other hotels with his club premium. read more

For one night only just acceptable. We arrived at night, however in a larger group, which resulted the person at the front desk the reserved room confused. We were a party of two was without room, gave us a master key - we should be the rest of search for your own room - scattered around two floors! The room was totally in order, the bathroom was very good, large, with rainforest shower. The organization rather maximum bad! read more

At $115 a night including taxes and breakfast, I was not entirely thrilled with the Barcelo. We stayed two nonconsecutive nights when in Santo Domingo traveling across the country. As background it should be emphasized that Santo Domingo has little infrastructure. It is a real and lively city but does not lend itself to tourism outside the Zona Colonial. The city was very polluted and made us miss the stability and presence of Mexico City (the only other Latin America city we have visited – an amazing metropolis). Blackouts were frequent, and there is a sense of dismalness. This disappointment ... with the city might have reinforced our disappointment with the hotel. read more

The showerhead did not work. The carpets were slightly moldy near the window. Otherwise the room was clean. The mini fridge was not stocked at all. The bed was comfortable enough and the satellite television worked though the connection broke down a few times. During the frequent blackouts, the hotel’s generators kicked in within thirty seconds. The water was hot and the toilettes flushed. It had the feel of a two star euro hotel with much more room.

The first morning breakfast was disgusting. The buffet eggs were cold and things tasted off. The buffet has choice but aside from the pastries, it all tasted cold, sour or just plain weird. The second morning we had them make omelettes (included in price) and this was much tastier and it seemed that the options had generally improved (no more cold food). I would suggest arriving early. Desperate for water at one point, we had to buy a small bottle of water at the cafeteria for 81 pesos. Keep in mind you will need lots of water and stock up on it at a store (ask your taxi driver to pull over for a second) and buy it at the normal price of 20-40 pesos per bottle. Because no restaurants were near and we did not feel like venturing into the rainy Santo Doming night (involving bickering with taxi drivers), we ordered in room service. Not bad. For $30 we ordered four appetizers and cheesecake, using softdrinks bought at the deli at Caribe Tours and making coffee in the room. The appetizers were from the menu at the famous Gran Lina restaurant. It was admittedly very nice to dine on nice food without having to go to the restaurant. The prices were not exorbitant either. This was a highlight of our second night in Santo Domingo.

They weren’t very professional. Check-in was curt and no one could make change. They acted put out when asked to do normal things and what friendliness there was, existed out of an expectation of an eventual tip. The hotel is meant for Western and Dominican businessmen or athletic groups. Tourists were a rarity. Everyone’s English is very poor (an excellent opportunity to practice Spanish!). Further, they seem in cahoots with the taxi drivers.

The pool was not that bad but we couldn’t go in because they told us the wrong hours. On the roof they have al these special features but it all costs extra. We did not check out any other features, nor did we venture into the casino. It looked very smoky and like an old Dominican boy’s club.

The hotel lies ten to fifteen minutes from the colonial district and the hotel taxi drivers will not negotiate below 200 pesos. On the street, if you dare venture outside into the uncertain heat (we did) you can call for a taxi that might give you a ride for 130 pesos. Thus, with respect to location, the hotel is not the greatest for independent travelers. We chose this location because it was close to Caribe Tours (departure point to other points in the country) but because of the horrible sidewalks and dubious characters, we ended up taking a taxi instead of walking it. Taxis wanted 200 pesos but we got it down to 150-175. Finally, there were no restaurants, delis or grocery shops near the hotel.
