Hotel YMCA Christchurch^{(3 stars)}

The YMCA is only a few blocks from the town center or, what remains is, away. It is a very large hostel, which also students are accommodated. This seemed a little negative on the really very small kitchen from, in the then rush hours hardly place is. The rooms are very spacious, but since not after every change vacuum, you partly on hairs etc. The old score. Also the bathrooms are not really clean. But if you only a reasonably affordable possibility for sleeping searches, is in the right place here, because you really central is accommodated. read more

For us it was a good choice to stay in Christchurch: centrally located, very clean and relatively inexpensive. However central city district was still out of reach after 2011 earthquakes, Christchurch famous gardens, museums and central bus station were also close by. The building itself didn`t look affected by quakes. It stands firmly. We even experienced by ourselves a couple of shocks during our short one-night stay there. The building shook and rocked but didn`t suffer any damage. There is a nice Robert Harris cafe on the ground floor, where we had breakfast. Our room was twin, with shared bathrooms. ... Despite our late arrival at about 2AM, our room was ready awaiting us. Next morning we had to check out at 10AM. Of course, it was too early for us on our first morning in New Zealand after long flight the day before, but reception staff was very friendly and helpful and allowed us to leave our luggage until evening. So we had the whole day free to go sightseeing around Christchurch till our next flight to Wellington. As a whole we were satisfied by our experience with YMCA and would recommend it for other travelers. read more
