Excellent located hotel the upper great with style, ambiençe and a place, where friendliness the guest is still lived. It will be not only benchmarks in manuals 'solid', but hospitality lived and celebrated. The like with everything! Restaurant and kitchen correspond the hotel in all masses.
In short: this time nothing to!

Great hotel. Perfect location and very nice and competent service. Excellent food. Room direction Neuss with wonderful view. In the foreground the water, then the beautiful building on the other bank, in the background the (partly white ) mountains. A dream view. On the other page the wonderful old town. Cheap it is not, however considering the superqualität, the altogether high level and high preisigen Lucerne's understandable and acceptable. But it is good to know. Nothing for bargain hunters.

The hotel is beautifully located directly on the river Reuss. It was great for breakfast and dinner on the terrace at the river to sit. Our room lay to the city center with a view of the pedestrian area. Unfortunately it was early in the morning by the delivery very loud and also at night we heard laughter through the streets, so that it was unfortunately not possible, the windows to let. A shame, that there is no air conditioning. The room is spacious and modern, the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom is huge, unfortunately there was the hair ... dryer. After 2-but a hook up.
We have found it as bad, that the hotel does not provide parking spaces. You must leave your room key and the car was parked by the staff in a garage.
The breakfast was good. For a four stars superior hotel I would have however an extensive breakfast expected. The menu at dinner could have been in our opinion should also like more. In addition: very proud rates! read more

Very nice hotel, right in the heart of Lucerne. We had a nice large room with view to the city center, everything super clean and furnished to a very high standard. It was, inter alia, a minibar, espresso machine, iPod docking station, inter alia, available. The bathroom is with a bathtub furnished to a very high standard (body lotion, hair dryer), for example the starry ceiling, etc. the breakfast room and the bar is also very to be recommended, the drinks at the bar were great, prices higher price range. We also had the pleasure once in the evening in ... the hotel to eat, perfect service and top quality of the food (higher price category). When the weather is nice, you can also on the terrace for breakfast or food (right on the river with a nice view on Luzern). All in all this hotel is highly recommended, this is also noticeable, for the price, but price/performance ratio was right here. At any time gladly again. read more

Lovely location, nice room on top floor with air conditioning which we needed as the hotel was hot, in September.
We felt some reception staff needed training as one or two were very frosty and unhelpful.

The hotel (an old and well-designed traditional, wonderful (and recently, in the years 2008) renovated location was ideal, right in the middle of the old town and in the midst of the shopping and the pedestrian zone-is it not-also directly to the Reuss river (on the basis of current construction at the Reuss river was the entrance to the hotel in the city center a bit confusing).
The hotel features a total of 56 room, mostly double room (for single use also), some junior suites and a few suites.
Most of the room have-according to the statement by the staff-view ... on the river Reuss river, a few double room are appropriate for direction the old town. When booking, you should say, what view you want, however, that this difference (usually) also noticed in the price, as the river view about 40 to 60 CHF according to the list is more expensive per night. Regular price in the high season price list for hotel DZ/view of the Reuss river: 430 CHF (about 287 eur) plus 27 CHF (about 18 eur) for the breakfast buffet. At check-in you got a cocktail voucher, you for a drink at the bar to order by.
The hotel is used by business and leisure travelers also (among other things also families). The atmosphere was very pleasant, the guests International (sat at the table next door, for example, a young, english-speaking family with four children goldigen, the obviously very good and (apparently there) were very lovingly nurtured. You asked for example, whether because it also for us was OK, shared by the table, and it was Super cute similar in scope and certainly not to noisy and not bothered, of course, has us. )
The parking cost 27 CHF service (the means, one of the staff drove the car in a parking garage, the is located ten minutes (to foot) and according to their statement was guarded. Have we not explored a other parking.
A Internet station is in the proximity of the reception, there is in the entire hotel and every room wireless Internet access available (you get at the reception at check in-on request-for a code for the own notebook)
Our double room (number 304) was very comfortable, had a very pleasant size and seemed very high quality of the decor with a view of the river Reuss. We had-if I remember correctly, no balcony me but a balcony with a small advantage plus railings, so that you feel a little 'balcony' and on the river (the very clear water led, see photo!) could look down. This view to the Reuss river-the side with a view on the opposite Jesuit church, the chapel bridge to the left, learned over the swans, etc. is really fantastic and beautiful.
The room: double bed (comfortable mattresses, blankets and sheets pleasant), two leather chairs with a small table, writing desk plus chair, wardrobe, dressing mirror, flat screen TV (rotating), mini bar, coffee/espresso small (capsule system) for the free coffee making facilities in the room. Bathrobes and slippers are also in the room.
The bathroom: two sinks (looks nice, in terms of counter space for cosmetics etc. unfortunately rather inconvenient. o). Matter of taste is certainly also the lighting in the bathroom, was for my taste something to 'dark', I prefer the possibility, (added) the 'make' brighter lighting), bath tub with glass wall separating drawbar, hair dryer (loose, without mounting), shaving/makeup magnifying mirror, cosmetic towels. And: usual hotel- Giveaways such as shampoo, shower gel, nail file, shower cap, sewing kit and shoe cleaning/utensils. Unfortunately it was no bathroom stool or similar storage space (for example for a beauty case) in the bathroom and it is the staff, despite my request and its promise-unfortunately not succeeded, as such, to get it was probably forgot. the is of course an indictment for this house, you must say unfortunately.
The breakfast buffet (from seven until 11h) from the first sight it seemed not very extensive, however, proved on the second view as quite comprehensive and of high quality; it included fresh fruit (sliced) pieces, various rolls/breads and cereals, cheese and sausage conditions, different jams and other spreads, sweets, dried fruit, juices etc. coffee and tea preparations were the desired arrangement at the table, as well as warm meals such as scrambled eggs directly to be ordered service. The breakfast/food you could, inter alia, on the terrace (on the river), on which one has a beautiful view!
In the evening it was-if desired-the so-called turn down service (setting of the bed, down comforter fresh, bathroom and room are still available upon request in order).
The food in the in-house restaurant is very tasty and also recommended. Reservation is necessary. (Options including prices are on the hotel web site shows).
Various attractions (the old-1993 spent-and again built bridge and the water tower, the Jesuits vis-a-vis the hotel, culture and Convention Center Lucerne am europaplatz-with the Art museum Luzern-and was located directly at the sea bay of Lake Lucerne, etc.) and wonderful walks on the banks of Lake Lucerne are within a few steps to reach.
Good has it us also in the restaurant la Terrazza ' (Metzgerrainle 9, lucerne 6004) right in the house next door (if one the hotel leaves, on the left-hand side). Hotel des Balances is a very charming old town hotel. Its newly renovated rooms are phantastic and have a loverly view to the Reuss river and Chapel bridge. The restaurant is among the best of its kind and has a unique terasse at the river bank. The staff is friendly and service level high. In sum, a great hotel. We will stay there again. read more

We have recently returned from yet another most enjoyable stay at the Des Balances (this year 4 nights). Our Room overlooked the River and the views of Pilatus, Rigi and the Lake where breathtaking. Weather this year was fantastic. The Hotels location for a short break is excellent. My wife and 5 year old daughter had a great time.We always enjoy staying at the Des Balances and look forward to another short 4 night break next April (2008) - a very special Hotel to us. read more

Having stayed several times at the Des Balances, I enjoy it as much today as on the first visit. Its location overlooking the River Ruess is quite perfect especially for a short break.Everything is close at hand to ensure an enjoyable stay.The Hotel and its level of service is of a very high standard. Its restaurant is first class. Request a room overlooking the river to ensure amazing views. This year we travelled with our 4yr old daughter who had a fantastic time, so much so we are all going back in April 2007 for another 4 night ... stay at the Des Balances. read more
