Very nice 'typical Dutch' building -hotel. The hotel has charm is however small and built nooks and crannies. The room decor was a bit dated, no air conditioning, old small TV, no small fridge in the room. The location is great and very central, only downside our room to the street and opposite a disco, it is recommended a quiet room to the inner courtyard to book.
The staff were extremely friendly and tried and the breakfast is, thanks to the attached bakery, very fresh and delicious.
The atmosphere was quite pleasant and we felt at ease.

Overall I was 4 weeks at the schimmelpenninck Huys, always the same room (number 50, standard). The hotel had several buildings, the belong together. Partly very angled with the typical Dutch steep stairs. Partly a little tired, but ok for 3 stars and also clean. The rooms were very different. My room had a balcony or terrace with a lovely view of the courtyard with its big trees. Large bathroom, which was with antique Facilities try messingfarbenen fixtures and a large shower head, as well as bath. Overall, very nice indeed, but unfortunately was the bathroom without ventilation, only a ... tiny opening the windows, no effect. Positive was the mini-bar, where you can store your own drinks. The bed was fine, and the TV standard 3 German channels (ARD, ZDF and NDR). In the summer it is to be expected that from adjacent houses (students!) and the in-house restaurant the noise level can be quite high until late night. Birds can then also for noise in the morning. The restaurant is very good and what I saw was probably top notch, but in Groningen there are about 5,000 Essensgelegenheiten safe and you have to don't eat in the hotel if you don't have to be. On every corner of the world, restaurants and so-called Eetcafes and fast food stores. The breakfast in the hotel is Dutch standard and sufficient. Interesting is the fact that the building adjacent to a Bonboniere includes a bakery and a bakery in the morning (6 adjoining bakehouse and stove back and forth to run, next to the breads to bake the eggs, sausages and bacon fries. But that does not only the for Holland typical paperboard-rolls, but also several kinds of dark bread and croissants. The coffee was good. The hotel has free Wi-Fi and two computers with internet. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. And the location of the hotel is of course prima, central it is almost impossible. Please note, if you come by car, must be prepared with difficulties with parking. Although you can (at your own risk) to the check-in/out front of the hotel, but otherwise you have to either outside parking or in one of the expensive parking garages. But also buses stop right near the hotel. All in all, a more positive Qualaan Islands and if you have a few things could forget, can relax in the schimmelpennick Huys safe feel comfortable. The room rates are not cheap, is probably because of the fact that the hotel was central to everything. read more
