Beautiful area, bad food!

The complex is beautifully designed, but a bit far from the action. The level of cleanliness of the restaurant was okay. The cleanliness at the buffet leaves a lot to be desired. The food was not varied and almost always cold, otherwise Luke-warm. The meatballs and cevapcici are not recommended, as they were not only cold, but still half raw. The staff speaks no or only a little German. The front desk staff are very rude and didn't try to help the guests, the rest is. For people who seek tranquility and no requirements in terms of the food, the ... hotel is very good, for all other is the Hotel definitely not recommended! read more

Bungalows are set in a wonderful natural environment, the sea is lovely and clear and invited to snorkel. Unfortunately only can book all your tours alone with the taxi company . The food was always cold sad because the taste was basically good. Sports and games there was no entertainment, the evening entertainment unfortunately always in Russian. read more

The three star room to be 25 years perhaps. The May two star with a maximum deserve much room for improvement. Dirt without end, roaches, bad furnishings! Area around the hotel was very beautiful, a lot of peace and quiet! With a bit of investment could be fantastic. The staff was very sloppy. Food-the same choice for eight days is boring! We have still 50% the price paid to a cash machine '4 star' in (rather 3) room to change. read more

The hotel is totally worn and almost everything is broken. The complex is built in 1973 and the feel is nothing more to it made since the were. Us has very good the fallen the hotel area was very extensive and it is has its peace. The beach from the catalog pictures is much smaller than you would expect and when the area was full the difficult to get a sunbed is is it. Also many beach chairs were broken and the cushions were totally filthy as you also in the evening not to be cleared. The service at the ... bars were very hard to motivate and the bars close very prompt ' we say. The area is ideal for hiking because all around, except for a desolate area, nothing is. The next small village is ten kilometer Bargauf to reach. The area is not so far from all away the alltours a trip offers. You can order a taxi in the larger assume the city. The cleaniness was very good. The food was very good and also varied. We must always see is in Bulgaria. The service is all black. The drinks are it also during the meals in disposable cups also only hot drinks and the strong wind is always edr was designed the rather difficult, especially to the restaurants and you could only eat. I now hear on but I would not recommend this resort. For the money you can get much better facilities offered read more

The hotel area was arranged like a village, and therefore there were bungalows that were located near all central points of the hotel, but also other ones which were rather far away. However, there were advantages and disadvantages for all of them, for example, there was always a lot going on and permanent music near the pool. Russalka was an all-inclusive hotel. However, you should keep in mind that some services weren't available anymore towards the end of the season, and you still had to pay for some facilities extra, because they were private offers, such as mini-golf (beautiful area!). read more

Since we had a superior room, we were very pleased with it. People who weren't staying in one of those rooms but saw one were thrilled. Even those who saw our photos were surprised by this great room. Each of the bungalows had its own large balcony with pool chair and a beautiful view. The superior rooms were located in the centre and the distance to pool, restaurant and reception was minimal. These rooms were beautifully tiled and had a modern air conditioner with remote control and a couple of extra gadgets, a nice bathroom with bathtub and a large mirror as well as a flat screen TV with a few international stations. When lying in bed, we could look out the panorama window, but no one could look in, when the curtains were closed. In our case, it was a view of the pool and the sea (very nice). In general, the room was just surprisingly beautiful and seemed luxurious. The older bungalows aren't recommended because they were a bit spartan looking and narrow. There were some with a beautiful view, which were located very high up the hill, but you had to be lucky to get one of those. These "old" bungalows were very different from each other. There were very old ones which were quite far away from everything and looked pretty run-down (from the outside, we didn't see the inside), and less old ones which were still quite nice from the outside and the inside. Room cleaning didn't meet Central European standards, but was OK. Unfortunately, we sometimes had to beg for new towels, but we always got some in the end. Conclusion: We were happy that we'd spent a few euros more and therefore got this great room.

  • Gastronomy

Okay, now, there's the rub. People knowing much about food and thinking of themselves as gourmets won't be happy with the food in the Russalka. The food was OK, sometimes better sometimes worse, but just not really delicious. Unfortunately, that's a problem many resorts in this price category have. If you like to have croquettes, hard meat, poor quality wine and instant coffee as well as greasy dishes at home, it won't be a great difference here, but for us it really was. Concerning drinks: There were all kinds of soft drinks and alcoholic drinks available, but no juices. Overall, we had to lower our sights, and it really reminded of some kind of cafeteria food. Cleanliness and hygiene were okay, and the staff even tried to consider special requests. Conclusion: Nothing for gourmets, but perfectly edible.

The staff was friendly and tried everything so that we could have a nice holiday. The people spoke foreign languages everywhere, also in the Russalka. In high season, there must have been great child care, and we thought of it as a very child-friendly hotel area, although there wasn't much was going on in post season. Generally, I have to say that only about 50% of the staff was there, but there were only about 30 guests in the whole area with its several hundred bungalows, so the service was okay. Conclusion: Friendly and very helpful staff.

  • Sport & Entertainment
    3.5

Since we were there in the post season, there weren't many sports and entertainment facilities available. The hosts left the day we arrived, and so did all the private entertainment providers. Tennis courts, kayaks and ping-pong tables were always available due to the small number of guests and were of course included. The diving prices were incredible. An introductory course for scuba diving (1 hour diving and 1 hour theory) was only 25 euros; for additional 20 euros, you could dive a whole hour. All other diving offers such as wreck diving, cave diving, etc. were extremely cheap too. Conclusion: Plenty of entertainment facilities in high season. A few things missing in post season.

The hotel was located in a nature reserve. Thus, it was a perfect area for hiking, with many paths and possibilities to discover things. Unfortunately, no trips were offered anymore. When we asked, the answer was always "post season". That was too bad, of course, but we still had a great holiday. You could only get away from the hotel area by taxi or hired car, since it was very remote. The next village was about 4 km away.

Wide, very nice area. The renovated bungalows were really super. The normal ones were a real nightmare, though - flooding in the bathroom, old furniture, no real path to the door (almost not lighted at night). There were mostly Bulgarians and Russians in high season. read more

As described above, the Superior bungalows had very nice furniture (air conditioning, safe, flat screen TV). The room cleaning was always OK. Bathroom was great. Our bungalow was right by the pool, a super view of the sea. The hair drier took some getting used to, my fingers sometimes got hot. Since we unfortunately had to spend one night in the old bungalow, we can directly compare them. The path to the older bungalows was barely lighted the evening. You had to walk on the lawn to get to the entrance (which wasn't exactly great).

  • Gastronomy

We'd booked all inclusive, and we also could have dinner in the a la carte restaurant, the food there was delicious. The restaurant, however, no longer matched the catalogue images. A few things had been changed. We always got enough to eat at the buffet, but we were really tired of chips when we were home again. We also had the feeling that we were sometimes offered food from the previous day. Also, you should always keep sight of your table when getting food at the buffet, as there were small birds everywhere waiting to pounce on it immediately. The pool bar was really dirty and unhygienic, but when the boss came, it was very clean afterwards.

Our complaints weren't handled well. We arrived in the hotel very late (our flight was delayed) and then got the wrong bungalow, and I think the "super manager" gave instructions to say that he wasn't there. In the morning before breakfast, we wanted to move to our bungalow (Superior), he told us that they'd be free from 12am and that we were free to choose one. When we came back, they were all occupied again. We really had to insist, but then finally got our bungalow. In the second night, we noticed mouse dirt under the bedspread. At 6.30 in the morning, we were woken by a mouse scratching at the wallpaper. The manager didn't believe us until we showed him the nibbled off croissants. Really disgusting! We then got a new bungalow, Family Superior, which was really great. The guide of ITS told us that it had been a squirrel:.0 But she didn't even know in which bungalow we'd been.

The beach was very clean. There was also a smaller beach which was remote and totally calm. The pool was always tip top okay. There was an elderly man cleaning it every morning, even when it was raining. There was a sulphur bath next to it, which wasn't that pleasant, but after some time, we barely smelled it anymore. There was also a water playground in the main season, which was really great, not only for kids ;.)

Just a few metres to the beach, but it was a shame that the owner used almost half of the beach for himself (where guests weren't allowed!). Shopping facilities in the hotel were totally overpriced. The transfer to the hotel took about 2 hours by taxi, the transfer back to the airport was a bit faster, about 1 hour. There, we'd booked a trip to Varna with ITS which was really worth it. There, you could see the price differences. We had to watch out, as there were people approaching us at every corner. The even pulled us into the shops, really annoying!

It is indeed a very quite place, no loud music on the beach and in the restaurant, children friendly, children entertainment almost every evening. There is a relatively high food and drinks variety, but normal, not luxury, fancy dishes. Medical care is only provided at a cost, between 50 and 100 euros per consultations, so no free of charge first aid, which can be quite a disadvantage. Make sure you take on trip complete first aid kits. Conclusion: Quite, decent place, do not go there if you expect luxury, fancy restaurants and night life. Excellent if you just want decent ... room conditions and a lot of peace. Staff is very friendly, even though not foregin languages proficient, very discreet (would not come to your room every five minutes asking if you need anything). read more
