This hotel must rate as one of the best in the Alps. It's beautiful and has stunning views. Don't be put off by the grandeur of it - the service is exemplary and all the staff are incredibly friendly. read more

We had a fantastic short ski holiday in Grindelwald - the hotel is with direct access to the train which brought us right up to kl. Scheidegg Ski-Area. The staff was very attentive and helpful any time. We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant which was a good decision, we were enjoying a fabulous meal and very charming service - just like in the good old times. The wine list holds a lot of swiss wine - which we appreciated a lot. We even could buy wine from the cellar to take home. The hotel has a very warm ... and personal grand hotel character, which we find so special in these modern times. The Spa is a great asset and we spend over three hours in the sauna area - which is specially made in the alpine chalet style. Really cute. Overall we can recommend the place for its convenient location and friendliness. read more

A few shortcomings but some real pluses

There were a few disappointments: we would expect a 5 star hotel to offer free wifi in the room - having it only in the lounge area is very limiting. The tv offered no sport programme (very disappointing when the australian open is on) and the only english speaking channels were american news/business channels - no entertainment whatever. (all the english speakers we encountered were british, not american). The main restaurant was closed sunday and monday so our only choice was the stube downstairs. The choice was very limited, and what we chose was not very good: the wiener schnitzel ... was ok, but the cold potato and cucumber salad was not very appetising at all. More choice and better quality needed for this rating. Against that, set the nice room, with good space, wonderful sauna facility which was delightful and beautifully presented, and a really excellent breakfast. We would definitely come back for the overall package, but will probably eat out for better taste and value. read more

The hotel is situated in the middle of center from Grindelwald, directly opposite of the train station. It has about 100 room. From the outside it seems already getting old to be, also the rooms could once again modernised, but the staff's hospitality and the great wellness area make the building a 'good' hotel. We had the half board. The guests were mostly swiss, as well as asian travel group( n). read more

    We had a normal room, what in size was ok, the interior was good, the design however dated (white leather, a lot of gold, no flat -tv). Nevertheless the room was not run-down. There was the room very clean.

    There are at least 2 restaurants, as well as a very comfortable bar. We had the half board and the food ( swiss dishes with intl. Touch) was (except for a small complaint at the meat) very good. The breakfast buffet was with very much love set up, the selection was good. The cleanliness was spick-and-span. The prices were for a five-star hotel ok ( for example 0.3 liter beer chf 5, hefeweißbier chf 8, espresso chf 4.70).

    The staff are service minded and helpful and speaks German and English. It was always very friendly. The rooms were very clean. Complaints we had a small because of the meat during dinner, this was but extremely professional handled.

    We were very positively of the pool and the wide selection of wellness stations (~10 different saunas) surprised. There the weather modest... Was, we spend the whole day in the wellness area and had a lot of fun.

Friendly and cheerful staff. The view of the Eiger was fabulous. I liked the sauna area. They should have more gym equipment such as a chinning bar and weights. Also more light choices for dining but that is a general problem in Grindelwald. There is just too much cheese and meat but that is a general issue with much of Switzerland. We really enjoyed the hiking in the area and plan to return next year. read more

We had a business group stays, it everything went as planned and stay has all 50 persons ( Executives ) wonderful liked it. The hotel is absolutely recommendable. The hotel is partly the furniture ageing, but such classic and stylish built, that it nevertheless very very popular. Very nice is the lobby I noticed with their bright design. Otherwise very clean, something in a hotel most is. A great hotel in jandia/Playa de jandia with much personal charm at the foot of the Eigers! From the arrivals to check out took care of it the international staff very attentive to us. A house with a 115-year history, and in the transportation situation to and from the prospect of anti-aging programme, the 'safe' venerable lady to old/new glory alone. read more

The morning buffet was adequate! The wellness area with bad weather earlier should possibly be opened (from 15,00 o'clock) The staff was very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The weekend was a lot of fun. read more

We stayed in an action with Sunday newspapers. A package with a visit to dam Jungfaujoch. Although the price reduction was considerable, we found the room and the bathroom was very small. The room was very noisy. The small balcony dirty and with ancient furniture equipped. Room No: 431. read more

Despite we were treated like special guests and fully number friendly service. The receptionist was explained everything and our room. There were waiting for us a wonderful bouquet of flowers, as well as mineral water. The ticket for the jungfraujoch already we have been given at the front desk. read more
