Rooms decent and in working condition. Shower nice, room service decent. We could see what appeared to be a dorm for the service staff from our second floor balcony. There was six foot tall wall surrounding the grounds of the dorm, but it didn't prevent us from seeing its unkempt nature in stark contrast from the beautiful grounds of the resort. There were rusty bars on the windows on the first floor of what appeared to be a slum from within the grounds of the resort. Also, the same workers seemed to be working day and night, 12 hour shifts ... 7 days a week, without break. This altogether was very disturbing and raised questions of an ethical nature while we were trying to get away and relax. Very unlikely, considering. read more

Clean okay service. Outside our balcony was a dormatory for the workers aka possible slaves to live = disturbing.

Fake resort surrounded by poverty = very disturbing + not a "relaxing" vacation. On the beach, if you like blasting base.

We spent a one-week holiday at the seaside at the Be Live Grand Carey or, as it is also called, the Grand Ambar. The only thing to complain about: First of all, the shower was not fully functional and was not repaired immediately. Despite all-inclusive was the safe exclusive as were some alcoholic drinks. The entertainment team is really friendly and in the evening there were plenty of great professional shows! Sometimes we found the entertainment during the day to be too intrusive. You had to sometimes really stress that you didn't want to take part in any games. If ... you want to enjoy a nice holiday at the beach, this hotel is the place for you in any case. We only did one excursion to the 500m away Ocean World. Which, with 55 dollars per person, was really expensive. Other excursions are also very very expensive. We felt it to be a tourist rip-off. read more

The look of the area wasn't bad. From most locations you could get an alright view. There are a lot of stairs (in the 200 range) so it's definitly not a place for any one with bad disabilities or for the elderly or anyone who will have a hard time walking. Unfortunatly the buffet and most restaurants, the lobby and stores were all on the top level so it's a good 15 min walk up to it all from the beach. The hotel condition wasn't the greatest. We went down with a number of people and all got different rooms ... and areas on the resort. Our room was not renivated and had a leeking bathtub and pour water pressure. Other rooms had no view and other issues such as a strong smell of sewage all over the place. The beach was not great and the volleyball court was horrible and full of rocks. The food wasn't the worst but not the best either. The snack bar is definitly lacking. The staff is so so. The lobby group on nights is awful and some of the bar tenders as well. We had a group member get jumped in the bathroom by a local near the lobby at about 930pm and when we told staff they did nothing. And there is a contstant presence of prostitutes in the resort as well as these time share selling people. The resort being so spread out makes it hard to meet up with others you might be travelling with. For the most part everyone we talked to guest wise or over heard talking about the hotel had nothing but complaints. The pictures are very diseving. read more

Our room was not renovated so it was smaller and had a leeking tub. But for the amount of time spent in the room it did it's job. The Tv was good. Our safe did not work and from most of the people we talked to we heard the same. I dont recal seeing a coffee maching in our room. The renovated rooms we a hit or miss. Some had a bad sewage smell all the time. Some didn't have working locks either. A lot of the families we went with we split up as well and even though other rooms closer were available they would not allow people to move. Some people's air conditioning did not work either.

  • Gastronomy
    4.0

The main buffet was pretty good for selection. The a la cartes were generally good as well however they are prebooked for you and we were not told this so we missed out on the Asian one. The cleanliness of the restaurants was good. The drink selection was lacking and you are expected to pay for your premium drinks. And those prices were a bit high. A fair amount of the pool bars were not open either so and there is no set one that is open 24 hours, so you contantly have to move locations.

  • Service
    3.0

The friendlyness from most was good. But a few are definitly lacking and unfortunatly its's mainly those of the staff in the lobby. So when you have any issues you just get more attitude from them. When our freind got jumped nothing was done as I said all that was asked was what room we were staying in. The room cleaning was ok for the most part however the room fridge rarely got stocked unless you asked them. The other thing about them is the cleaners would knock early in the moring at 8 or so, give you barely 2 seconds and then just walk in. Most of the locks on the doors were not working as well. We saw childcare available and it seemed to look very good. The security is lacking as well as there is no problems with locals getting on the resort or beach area.

  • Sport & Entertainment
    3.0

The main entertainers were good. But the shows were pretty boring for the most part and the interaction with the audience was hardly done. The disco was fairly good but did not stay open till after 2 am. The aerobics were good depending on the entertainer doing them. The pools were nice and there are several. For the most part they are very clean as well. The beach quality is not the best. The sun beds were always available. and there are shaded areas around every pool.

The city its self it not the cleanest. The view like I said from the hotel for the most part is nice. There were excursions available but we had a hard time booking any throught our rep at the hotel. There is shopping on resort but you get better deals at the shopping on the beach. The ocean was always in yellow flag and not the clearest unless you swim out a bit. The snorkeling around the area is good though even for just renting from the resort.
