Grotto Bay Beach Resort, Bermuda - my new dream Island archived

I don't even know where to begin. Briefly, some general things on Bermuda, as on the Internet there is not that much to be found either. I was on Bermuda for the first time and it has become my dream island. Since, I believe, neither Hawaii, nor the Maldives nor any other Caribbean island can live up to it. The people are incredibly friendly, helpful and polite, I have never experienced anything like that before. The rest of the world could take a page out of their book. The island is very clean, no poverty, totally cute, colourful huts, no ... mass tourism (there are also not that many hotels), everything is a bit more exclusive and more pricey, when it comes to food and drinks. But there are plenty of 'snack bars', where it is much cheaper than in the restaurant. The beaches are beautiful (South Shore: with a pink gleam, but rather wavy; North Shore: very quiet, shallow turquoise water) and the sand is extremely fine. My favourite beaches were Horseshoe Bay, Shelly Beach and Turtle Bay. Furthermore, there is an excellent bus system, which take you to every corner of the island. There are 1-7 day tickets, with which you can use all buses and ferries throughout the day. Perfect for sightseeing. As a tourist you can not rent any cars, only scooters. You can pay in Bermuda Dollars and US Dollars, by the way, both are equally important. Proper clothes are expected in all the restaurants, also during the day. So there is no sloppy mass tourist look. The Grotto Bay Hotel is just 5 minutes away from the airport, in a closed bay, so the beach is beautifully quiet and has beautiful turquoise water. To the airport there is a bridge that leads over the sea and you can see it and the airport from the beach. Which I didn't mind. And strangely you can also hear no aircraft noise. But apart from that, there are only about 15 machines going per day. The hotel complex is beautifully embedded in green with colourful houses, some of which are on a slope, and reached via some steps. Throughout the whole complex I did not see any plastic chairs or tables, luckily! There is either rattan or metal furniture. The complex has two grottoes (limestone caves) and you can even swim in one of them. A great experience. Furthermore there is a small gym and a diving school with water sports facilities. I can only judge the pool restaurant, the food was delicious and plentiful and the price-performance ratio was alright here. In the evening there were often offered theme barbecues, but we didn't take part in any of them. In the afternoon there was always afternoon tea and cookies and cakes free-of-charge for all. I thought that was very nice. Otherwise there are two restaurants, a cafe and a bar, and a souvenir shop. Internet in the lobby for a fee, 30 minutes - 6 $!! Tip: Free Internet in the library in Hamilton. A 7-minute walk away there is a supermarket, a petrol station with drinks and cold/hot snacks is just around corner, ice cream parlour a 2-minute walk away and the famous pub 'Swizzle Inn' is also a 2-minute walk away. Here you can also get the 'Swizzle Rum Cocktail' which should be tried, and here I had the best fish in my entire life 'rock fish with fried bananas' (a speciality of Bermuda) just amazing. Now for the rooms. These were OK. You can't expect luxury. Spacious, TV, coffee maker with coffee, safe, balcony with table and chairs, air conditioning and refrigerator (which was very loud). Bathroom seemed newly renovated, however, the water pressure in the shower was very very weak. And our wool duvet had some cigarette burns, but was not replaced by the housekeeping staff, even though we complained. When we moved into the room, there was also black hair on the pillows, probably from the cleaning lady. That was not very yummy! However, for the price I paid for the room, and for which I even got a room upgrade, I can overlook that. Would I have paid the regular, three times higher price for which it is normally offered, something like that is a no-go. Overall, I found the stay to be beautiful and would not hesitate to come back to the hotel as well, except for a honeymoon, then the room could be a little more luxurious)). I also looked at some other hotels: Pink Beaches Resort, Coco Reef Resort and Elbow Bermuda Resort. If anyone has any questions about those.
