A typical all-inclusive resort in a great location. Buffet was really very good; the à la carte restaurant... Nothing special... I recommend not. If you have to, i recommend a rental car. That a saverschlüssel in such a resort this category to be rented, and wi-fi in the room 50 American Dollar for 5 days fork out to be, i think inappropriate. Lobby, hallway and restaurant are very lichtarm, but it has free wi-fi; therefore quite crowded. Beach is very nice and it has billions of sun loungers. Very nice hotel, the rooms are big, but unfortunately for four people with only a wardrobe.
The service in the restaurant leaves much to be desired. The tables are not set and of its gezränk you had to wait up to 30 minutes.

El portillo is really a beautiful hotel and a great beach, a great clean and tidy, and also the good food has convinced us. Total our expectations still not quite met. That was due to various larger and small drawbacks. All in all, we would rather 4 instead of 5 stars.
The transport of santo domino should about 2,5 hours take. Unfortunately knew the driver the way and has frequently procedure, had repeatedly pause after the away and telephoning. So it 3,5 hours hour lasted. To 10 hours flight and at 6 o'clock annoying so what very nice. ...
Next 'surprise' then in the hotel. The 'private check-in' for the golden club category was not available, only from 9 o'clock. Room check-in even from 15 o'clock was explained to us. It is already a lot written about and we because of the consistently good reviews decided for this hotel. The hotel is very big, fits but not strandgröße. Too many close asked loungers at the beach. About 900 people must anywhere. The beach vendors we found very annoying. You could sleeping on the beach chair, one was waked. After a no thank you you were left alone, but after 1 hour it was then again there. And there is not only a beach vendors, but many. The specific questions after a beer from the bar, or a cigarette, we thought ... already quite cheeky. In general we found the restaurant was very busy (a cafeteria from the noise level was). Quality and variety were good. The cocktails in the lobby bar we found very good. Also here the atmosphere: oh well. You sit in a hall. You could also outside by the pool sit, there was one however only rarely served. Was also mostly none outside. The Kicker and 2 billiard tables and we thought the noise in the bar disturbing.
Our 2 junior suites were nearby the staffbereiches, where from 7:00 a. m. in the morning the maids chattering in the complex colombians. The welded were also very noisy outside the room doors filled. The houses are very badly soundproofed. Although we had very quiet guests about us.
The front desk service was very good. We had before the trip an e-mail to the hotel written, whether it is possible, that one of our 2 booked suites finished with arrival could be, there we had very early arrival. We arrived at 7:00 o'clock in the morning in the hotel and it were both rooms finished.
In conclusion you could say, that we peace and relaxation in this hotel not found.
What positive stands out, the really beautiful long beaches secluded from hotels. Just the towel, 10 minute walk and under a palm tree-the is Carribean like with peace and relaxation. read more

The hotel is unfortunately 3 hours from the airport (Puerto Plata) away, the long journey is worthwhile however! There is a very nicely designed lobby, a beautiful beach, a very well maintained gardens and comfortable designed room. The staff is mostly friendly, only very rarely you see not a smiling face. The foreign language skills are mostly top, only very rarely has a bartender no english is spoken, even with the chambermaid could you (somehow) communicating in english. The guests come predominantly from Canada and Germany.
The beach is really unbelievably beautiful. Turquoise water, white sandy beach and palm trees ... as far as the eye can see. With few steps one reaches the sanitary facilities and the beach bars. The cleanliness at the beach is spotless. Regularly the trash cans and ashtrays were emptied and the empty cups were collected. The gardeners are even at the beach and rake washed ashore grashalme, several times daily, way. The nearby reefs the waves before the beach broken, so that one always easy to bathe can. There is also enough beach chairs, unfortunately often very early with towels be reserved, even if the guests only from lunch there. It is a public beach, but not used by locals. Why not one not disturb itself must the beach vendors. This are all very friendly and immediately, if you no thank you says.
The main pool is for the size of the hotel unfortunately a little too small and unspectacular laid out. We have the experience, that the pool often families with children used, which at times to a fairly high level of noise led. The 2. pool you will find a pretty bad, as it is tucked away located. It is of average size and can be as relaxing pool be designated, as until a bar and toilets only the bungalows with the rooms around.

The food selection is not so big as in the main building, however, it is more than adequate and something for everyone there. The breakfast was very good, with a lot of choice. Sometimes the lunch menu in the main building to be desired left, as well as the dinner. There is a 7-days- menu, on various issues is oriented. Sadly you could the issue, if you don't read has, often not recognize. Often the dishes only lukewarm to cold. Basically is a relatively wide choice given, unfortunately little is varied. The food tastes, but nothing culinary special. The same applies for the restaurants.
The area around the hotel is very rural and poor, what a as a tourist sometimes a rissole in the neck causes. Excursion possibilities are limited. We have a trip with the travel guide the el limon waterfall booked. Our summary: absolutely not recommendable! The narrow lead from the waterfall is totally with tourist crowded, the way to it almost perilous, since it steep uphill over the rocks and stones is. The path will be ridden and the horses are in a totally disgraceful condition. You could even already prior to known, we would have this trip not booked. If you like adventures, you should at the beach at Pablo point 10 shall apply! Pablo organizes tours of the somewhat other type, speaks a little german and can take a maximum of 6 people going on, so that you here and there also a little more time to the photos do.
Our room was very nice large and like all room with a balcony equipped. Very nice it is, that the mini bar daily (free of charge) with Pepsi, orange and citron, a large bottle of water and two cans of beer refilled. The bathroom was large enough and had a bathtub and shower. The cleanliness was very good overall, only partially the maid already in the morning at 7 o'clock or only at 16:30 o'clock with the cleaning. It was a shame also, that a safe is available, this however had to pay extra.
Basically it was a very nice and successful vacation and we would certainly again the hotel select. read more

Dearest we would still two weeks there.
The long transfer from the airport Puerto Plata (3,5 hours) to the hotel it is absolutely worth it. If you have such a beach in front of eyes is the effort soon forgotten.
The trip to the national park by höhlenbesichtigung was great but you could visit the bacardinsel save. This is completely overcrowded. Here give the tip rather a more day on the beautiful beach ... to spend and also a few meters to walk. Here there are beautiful lonely sections of beach where the meters far into the sea can walk to.

After we at the north coast (cabarete/sosua) and the south coast (Playa dominicus) were, we have chosen the samana peninsula and because of the good reviews this hotel to visit.
We can the good and very good reviews at holiday check-in many points confirm, but for us not in all respects.
We are from Hamburg arrived and are already at 18 o'clock local time in santo domingo arrived. After the as always a bit more constant customs clearance, the drive to the hotel because of the new street, only just over 2 hours lasted.
The hotel makes a very well ... maintained and in almost all parts renovated impression. All the paths to the rooms, to the beach, the bars and the restaurants etc. Can easily be reached by foot in a few minutes.
The in-room safes this hotel you have to pay an, that is for me a point of criticism. For 14 days over 50 Dollar.
In of the lobby one had free wi-fi. Worked well, the speed was adequate.

The hotel is one of the most beautiful 4,5 star hotels in dominican republic have visited.
The quiet beach, as well as the crystal-clear water are beautiful. The snorkeling in calm weather at the numerous reefs directly in front of the hotel is fascinating. The walks are unique, absolutely no mass tourism. You could for every meal time in the open sit.
Now some criticisms: the main restaurant had already because of its size not the familiar diversity, it was a pity that no delicious milkshakes was, and no high-quality fish or meat dishes.
If you were lucky you ... got in the specialty restaurants the requested court.
We found the plastic medicine cups. So what we have in the last few years in still no hotel experienced. Only at the lobby bar one got a glass. Here the drinks however also very tasty tasty. Even the nightly show you had to the cocktails from the wegwerfbechern drink, an absolute no-go. The beach bars were partly only until 17:00 o'clock open, then you got no drinks more, except at the lobby bar. This castle point 11:00 p. m., afterwards there were drinks only in the disco, from plastic cups. A major weakness of the hotel is the service. The waiters work partly very uncoordinated. The hotel, the area, the beach and the staff were just perfect. All of the staff were always friendly and accommodating. In this hotel there are no problems but only situations. A very special thanks the animation team(Charly, Daniel, pink, ariel, daviel, calito, nikauri, lenny), you have super good maintained and were always in the best mood, through you we are now fond of Bachata and Merengue.

A really excellent star hotel, absolutely and all recommendable. We inhabited a very spacious very comfortable junior suite, the every day perfectly cleaned, the towels and the bed linen were changed daily. Overall the staff was and at all times very friendly, we were very well served,

All in all it was a dreamlike relaxing vacation. The hotel and food was great and the beach wonderful.. The service staff, starting at entertainer, gardener to the waiter or maids were since early on the legs and always friendly and efficient.

+ it was our so far nicest vacation. Great beach, crystal clear water, good food, pleasant temperatures, friendly staff and unspoiled nature! Better can you almost no longer catch.
Everything in our juniorsweet worked and it was cleaned daily and mini bar refilled.
Food was delicious. There is a large buffet with massive selection. We knew usually not what first on the plate is. To mention is, that we have christmas/new year's day were there, where the hotel rather was fully booked and it accordingly wide choice had.
The hotel staff are very friendly.
Pure relaxation! The hotel complex has ... everything which one for the vacation need, except no party locations.
- the hotel is from Puerto Plata very far away. For this circa 150 kilometer you need in the cathedral. Republic about 4 hours, because hardly faster than 40-50 kilometer per hour can be driven.
The couple a few excursions which from the hotel can be booked are expensive. In general the region is samana rather untouched and there is not much something to do. On own faus for safety reasons no excursions recommended. We have 2 attacks belongs, where the tourists were robbed. Very nice horticulturally designed area. Everything was very well-kept.
All bungalows and houses more than 2 floors high. All inclusive. But if you the safe use, in addition 56 Dollar pay. There is also clear in the hotelsatzung the only things in the safe quarters are insured, so a not over as the safety deposit box pay. Incomprehensible for a 4,5 star hotel.

We have 15 wonderful days in this hotel spend. We inhabited a junior suite, the very spacious was and well equipped is. The safe is unfortunately not included in the price. It is certainly already getting old, however everything was very clean. The selection of dishes and drinks was very big and quality good to very good. A large plus is the kindness of the employees. Always a smile on the lips, no matter what hotel area. The beach is excellent, fine sandy and not overcrowded. You can great walks on the beach make and very good snorkeling. Excursions there ... are reichhlich. Sure no hotel to party, but for relaxing and the great beach enjoy just perfect. We can recommend this hotel in good conscience. read more
