The Arenal observatory lodge is situated directly at the volcano Arenal. You get with a fantastic view on the volcano. Especially from the terrace of the restaurant and also from the balcony the smithsonian rooms. However, you should not expect, that you at night the red lava looks. This is still often advertised, the Arenal but back in about 300 years lava spit. The last time you had the lava 2 years ago seen. The frontdesk employees and in the restaurant are really friendly. One us many good advice on excursions in the area given. The food in the restaurant ... is very tasty. Breakfast is ok, the selection was not too big, but it was enough to in any case. The lodge is located on a large Areal a good deal secluded from main street. If you stay here, you should the things in the immediate area use, because from the lodge to the main street to get you need already approximately 15 to 20 minutes. There is a small pool (the while we were there however, was very cold). But there was also a nice warm jacuzzi pool. From the lodge is a free guided 'morning tour' offered. One makes a circa 2-hour hike through the attached Areal with a guide. We have monkeys seen, a toucan, waterfall etc. Was okay, the leader was not very motivated and wanted rather provided in a timely again be back. From the terrace of the restaurant you also a very nice view of the Arenal reservoir. All in all we can the lodg definitely recommendable!

In the Arenal national park, with a direct view of the same volcano, is this from the smithsonian institute established scientific research station on the research into the still active, but currently dormant volcano, Arenal. This lodge is the only hotel, located in the national park was built in and is located directly on the ridge only 1.6 kilometer away from volcano, protected by the agua caliente river. For this stay we opted for a smithsonian room, since this with a large picture windows with a magnificent view of the volcano offers. In addition the room has two queen ... size beds, a private bathroom, a coffee maker and an in-room safe. The lodge includes the property a 'Arenal' museum with seismograph, a beautiful swimming pool and a restaurant. In the original primary and secondary forest leads a good ausgeschildetes and well-maintained trails. Free wi-fi there is unfortunately only in the restaurant. By the separatingness this lodge we also once in the lodge good dinner, although the prices but clearly were overpriced. For the 2. evening we chose a steak restaurant in the village decided. Beware the drive in the dark! There it can happen, that a horse in the window hereinschaut. A four-wheel vehicle is in the rainy season recommendable and high ground clearance is always advisable. Loathe the recuperation in the pool with a view of the volcano, the unfortunately mostly is covered, so the hotel offers some interesting tours to the adventurous pastime. We decided for a nightly tour in the Arenal 1968 (in the effects of the volcanic eruption vividly explained, beginning 19:00) and early morning vogelbeobachtungstour (tour 6:00 to 8:00). However, if you want the amphibians, reptiles and spiders really close and more about the antiserumsherstellung know, you have to to El Castillo (about 6 kilometers away) in the Arenal eco zoo.

The lodge is located at the foot of the volcano arena. From our bed and terrace, we had a direct view to the volcano. The rooms are very spacious with two nice big beds, a safe and a huge walk in shower. In the room there was a coffee maker. The complex is very spacious. There are many opportunities for hiking. The pool with Jacuzzi is situated in an idyllic location at the edge of the forest and is a suspension bridge to reach. The breakfast was wide and typical of the country with eggs, pancakes, sausage, toast, cereal and ... rice and beans. Dinner was served in buffet form and was very tasty and varied. The staff was very attentive and friendly.

The lodge offers the best view of the Arenal. If possible, you should choose a room with volcano View, then you have to look not every time, after a good prospect, if it grollt. The entire lodge is nicely laid out, the staff was very friendly and the rooms big enough. Everything was clean and neat. One should perhaps more than a night, because there are lots of things to see and do (water falls, bridges, river-rafting, Arenal-Lake and so on). Furthermore, you have to see as well as a greater chance, the Arenal with its eruptions completely.

We are on our self organized tour through Costa Rica for a spur (with telephone. Reservation on the same day) in Arenal Observatory lodge and were positive surprised!HCLFHLAfter a somewhat adventurous arrival (about 9 kilometer from the last paved street of La Fortuna centre nearby), we were given a standard room in the 'La casona' (with always clean shared bathroom), which is about 500m from the main building. We could however with our jeep to the front door and had a fantastic view of the active volcano and Arenalsee on the Arenal, we heard at night and with a little ... patience even the glow red lava could see!HCLFHLThe breakfast was very delicious and varied, we were received for the following (which was included in the room rate) Guidance over a bridge away, past at howler monkeys, to a waterfall by the stunning natural beauty. This hotel is especially for its incomparable location is a must for every, the impressive atmosphere at the foot of a volcano would like to feel active.
