The sandai farm - brilliantly located with a view of the Mount Kenia. After about 10 minutes on a driveway runs through a gate, is the first antelopes, zebras. Then horses, cows, and the farm house. The big main building is already from the outside very nice, inside it is a very loving equipment. Enters, feel comfortable, look around and see. And even after 2 or 3 days one can still find new accents. The guest houses are big enough, there is a terrace to stay a while. Inside there is a large double bed, and a small office area. ... A roll was also available. The bathroom is big enough and was sufficient for our requirements completely. Especially worth mentioning is the food - very tasty, all together at the large table (lunch outside, evenings inside ), the service is warm and caring. Petra allmendinger, the owner, lives the host idea, and you are right at home! We still rave about the cosy tertulias the evening fire! The good fairies in the kitchen and in the service, the bartender, our guide for the bushtour, should not forget. On sandai every for the guest approachable and very helpful. Excursion possibilities nearby are several small national parks/game reserves, like for instance solio to name but a few. We will come again and this hospitality longer enjoy! Bewertung lesen

We were for the first time on sandai, but certainly not as last time, Petra we were completely pampered and the staff was very dear and attentive. From here can be many and very nice tours for example in the aberdares to solio ranch a rhinoschutzgebiet, on the mt. Kenya and so on Petra is with any kind of information and actions helpful, also make the excursions with their guests, the not itself mobile as we are, even. Here price and performance, one of the few locations in Kenya where one also for tourists normal prices and not the 4-5 ... times the residents! Bewertung lesen

I and a friend were a month backpack Travellers in Ethiopia and are from there down to Kenya traveled. After a long and strenuous trip we were incredibly warm on Sandai welcome! It was as in Paradise! Actually we had before, only a few days to stay and continue to travel-but we stayed on a week, just because it was so nice! It was so lots to experience, make and to do and at the same time we could just take a break from everyday life. The farm are brilliantly located and you the direct view on the MT. Kenya ... ( if the clouds disperse. ). The building is a absolute dream! The rooms and cottages are extremely comfortable and you feel simply only probably! The food was always very delicious and it gave everything which the heart desired! The atmosphere was very relaxed, Petra ( the owner from Sandai ) and their employees were always in a good mood and very welcoming. In the evenings, we often still all long together sat and chatted. Highlights were definitely also the excursions to Solio (where EDEN many rhinos looks) and after Sweetwater. Other guests raved about from Samburu and aberdare national park-we want to go the next time now! The Pferdesafaris were very popular and Sammy we learned a lot about the birds of Kenya. The farewell of Sandai fell very hard for us and we want to in any case come back! Thanks to Petra and the whole team! Bewertung lesen

The small lodge and 6 cottages at Sandai were spacious anc clean. The meals were served family style at a large table, permitting interaction with other guests as desired (as a solo traveler, this provided nice companionship for me). Most of the travelers were European, most often German, as the owner is a German woman. The age range of guests was broad, but most were middle aged. Children were most welcome, and there were plenty of games available to keep them occupied. Many guests were part of an organized tours, with Sandai as a brief stopover. Some came for the ... horseback riding, or a restful visit. Weekends were much more busy, with white diplomats or government employees staying for a short holiday from their work. Bewertung lesen

Rooms were well maintained, with ample clean water and guest services. Hot water for bathing or showers was available only for a short time each day, if at all (solar and generator power). The beds were comfortable and clean. There is no TV; electrical outlets are functional only some of the time (the power is turned on after dark until `10:30 PM, but not during daylight hours). There was no heat or air conditioning. I was cold at times, as the summer months are Kenya's "winter". There were plenty of blankets available.

The food was mostly fine, with a good selection for all palates at breakfast. Only one entree was available at supper, which tended to be a local African dish. The quality of the cooking was good, but not excellent. One night only beans and potatoes were available for supper, which was a disappointment. There was a bar with interesting home-made mixed drinks available at extra cost, based on the availability of juices and liquor locally.

The African staff was quite friendly. Knowledge of language was good for English among the African staff, The white staff was fluent in German and English. Petra, the owner, was a perfect hostess, but was present only part of the time (she often accompanies guests on overnight safaris). Her 21 year old son and his 20 year old girlfriend ran the place in their absence, which was not by any means the same quality of service. The son was rather rude at first, but warmed up during the week. Petra called frequently to check in on her clients' welfare, which was somewhat reassuring. The son and girlfriend would often bicker in front of guests, which was highly unprofessional. They overslept when due for a morning safari, requiring me to request getting them up. This delayed my day by over one hour. They drank alcohol during the picnic lunch, and then were too sleepy to drive the land rover; again, this was not only unprofessional, but dangerous. Their skills at sighting wildlife and ability to identify birds and plants were minimal.I would NOT recommend them for ANY safari, but would insist on an African guide. The African guides arrived earlier than the agreed start time and were quite expert at sighting and identification. Rooms were kept clean; Linens and towels could be replaced during the week at request (not necessary as they were well supplied in the first place). Laundry was available upon request without charge The day after I had no hot water, the supply was quite good, so it was possible to avert this problem if the staff was attentive to it (Petra was absent at the time).

Sadai is not meant to be a fancy resort. It is more like staying with a local family, which to me was much more rewarding. There is no pool, but this would have spoiled the African homestead setting. As noted above, there were plenty of board games and outdoor games available for children and adult guests. Internet access was limited but this facility is not meant for business stays. Options for schedules activities is broad, including a variety of safari options (even distant). Their best guide is an excellent spotter and has a keen eye for birds (he is excellent for any birder, from beginner to proficient).

Sandai is located in the savannah between the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. This lodge with cottages was well situated and convenient to a variety of local attractions, including the Aberdares National Park, and Mount Kenya National Park Shopping was limited to a very nice gift shop with a good variety of selections, ranging from typical tourist items to local art and handicrafts.
