I stayed at this hotel for 8 nights in March 2013, until writing this review I am still shocked from the frustrating experience. Hotel has more employees than it has guests, the room is small, and provides minimum amenities, no shoe horn, no shoe cleaning sponge, and when I asked I was told the hotel does not provide that. The TV is a big old box with a very lousy picture, bathtub is for kids, small and 20 CM high. The water pressure is very weak and showering can be a challenge, I tried to complain to the reception manager ..., I got an offer to change the room to an identical room with the same problems. If you are planning to use the Internet be ready to pay 15 dollars per day, and if you use a stream or radio do not be surprised if they block you from using it. Every time you need to use the Internet you have to log in again, if you are using any smart phone with apps like Viber or instant messaging you will not have instant notification due to the disconnection you will experience using their WIFI. Their staff moved me from a table at their Omar cafe cause it was reserved for a long stay customer that may show up anytime or may not show up. The next day to my surprise I saw another customer siting at the same table, and when I asked why is he using the long stay customer's table I was told he is sitting there before we opened today. Overall experience I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they charge the real value of a 2 stars hotel paying 303$ per night compared to the service provided was a highway rubbery with all due respect. Few days after my review on Trip advisor. A manager from the hotel called me to hear details about my dismayed experience and promised a great compensation for my next stay in April. I was not surprised of course to find out he came back to offer me a room for $219.00 plus tax = $274.00 per night at their executive rooms floor insulating my intelligence.!!!!!! Next time I will definitely take another hotel. read hotel review

The Fortaleza was for our short break a very good Base. We had over often-Reisen and were excellent. We were in a room in the southern high rise building, fourth floor, accommodated. Rooms were clean, facilities as described available. The breakfast buffet had a varied offer at sausage, cheese, fresh fruit, muesli, warm meals such as small sausages, egg, Spinach, omelets were individually freshly prepared, breads and sweet pastry. Brighter friendly breakfast room. Small shopping mall and banks we currency exchange available. In the afternoon after the excursions could one in the tranquil in the pool, or at the numerous ... coffee- or restaurant places relaxation. Price there are however very high, and there offers at, at the nearby '15 May bridge' to the local shops with cheap drinks they quote. Warning: the prices in the menu come Bediengeld and taxes (and of course tip extra) in addition! The hotel is directly at the Nile on the waterfront (the parks there are however locked) to the one in about 30 minutes walk the Cairo tower or Tahrirplatz (Egyptian museum) can walk. read hotel review

The hotel is quite Central, but not downtown as it is right next to the October bridge it was noisy with the balcony doors open, when the door was closed, one heard only occasionally the horns from the cars. Directly in front of the hotel you can rent the private limousine, the white taxis run after taxameter, or-as we would like to recommend-the black taxis with which you've negotiated a price. It says persistent action. It is really worth it and if the driver with a 50 pound anfaengt you can go mostly for 15 or even ten pounds. The ... pyramids (pyramid) costs about 40-50 pounds. To downtown to the bazaar 10-15 pounds. The rooms are 'Marriott-typically' decorated. The double bed room is the size of a queen size-bed, but adequate. The bathroom was a bit cramped and quite small. Many TV channels, among other things, ZDF, RTL and dwtv. Our balcony had a view of the Nile. All in all, the room was good and clean. The Fruehstuefck, which we booked, was okay, but not very good. There was a large selection of bread (toast, white and wheat bread, rolls, baguette, bagels and Arabic bread) and there were plenty of spreads, side dishes and fruit. A sweet corner with many sweet ponds were there. However, the dishes were not always clean hundertproznetig and the room seemed a little unpleasant. the coffee was well. The pool area was spacious and you got enough towels. The pool was clean and very large, there wasn't a lot happening, and you could relax well. All in all the hotel is recommendable, it makes a good impression and the smaller flaws should be assessed not too high. read hotel review

The rooms were a few weeks related waste and dirty. The kettle was 'alive ', that is moldy. Light bulbs did not work. Everything was very dusty-right on first sight to see. In the fridge were customers or an open and worn packet of milk bottles and opened. The Balkun to the garden was completely covered with cobwebs, chairs and a table we had before the use even cleaning. With the two other families in the group saw it-except for the water heater-just. Complaints remained unsuccessful the first. Only after the second complaint often travel had intervened, was cleaned and ... we received a fruit and other goodies as an apology. read hotel review

The hotel is surely of the leading hotels in Cairo. In spite of its size (about 1400 rooms) at the guests in the restaurant. Depending on the location of the room has a beautiful view of either the garden or on the Nile. (Those seeking peace and quiet because of the strong traffic noise try to get a room to the garden to get). The prices of the food and drinks were relatively high for Egyptian standards. It is right in front of the hotel on the Nile ship restaurants, which are a bit cheaper food and drink. Breakfast buffet ... excellent and very extensive. read hotel review

Great Hotel, nice pool area, good fitness and Spa area. The waiters could, if you wanted it, we had to often ask to be served, no voluntary us in, even though we had sat at the table and trying to order. The quality of the food was good and the selection for example at the breakfast buffet was very large, but the prices were compared to other hotels very high. We were not satisfied with the handling of complaints. An Arab party in the room above us took a full night's sleep. Despite complaining several times felt responsible here no ... one from the hotel staff. Although the complex very positive and we the hotel in general would be recommendable, because of this experience, we will not stay here anymore, that much is certain. read hotel review

In the hustle and bustle of Cairo a small oasis, in which one hardly noticed and traffic of the city. The breakfast buffet with plenty of choice, but would have some meals can be fried longer (omelets, pancakes). Inspite of the small criticism I would book this hotel again. read hotel review

From the outside the hotel looks very nice and Oriental from. A little oasis is if you are driving from the sticky and noisy Cairo came back. The Egyptian Museum is within walking distance, in this area also those who travel alone have two women didn't have to worry. We were allowed to check-in at 06:45, thank you therefor! Wireless in the room cost £45 per day, was not. Breakfast in the room was almost an hour late and inedible. read hotel review

Marriott is the best, which in my opinion can have in Cairo, centrally located, great garden, orientlisches flair, the best reputation (also has its price), zamalek is the most pleasant area in Cairo. Each guest is here very warmly welcomed. The service was excellent. If I can make back, I will stay again at the Marriott. It couldn't have been better. Particularly to be recommended: walk through zamalek. It is a good area with many facets, very green and neat. Many old mansions are in good condition. A big surprise for me was the café Einstein Berlin in zamalek to ... find. The standard of cleanliness in the restaurant was delicious. read hotel review

Very disappointing hotel! archived

The hotel has an excellent website, promises much. The reality was very disappointing. The hotel has its has seen beter days long time ago. The decor is old and shabby, is beter. You had the impression, that not more in the conservation and maintenance of the hotel is invested. The Annex is unpleasant and inappropriate to the actual hotel (zamalek tower). The rooms are not large, the bathrooms small and not very clean. The staff was very unfriendly and a little helpful, foreign language skills (English) were rather bad. If you can pull up financially, the met rather friendly. Towards ... women is even worse, which probably was due to their mentality. The food is very good, but expensive in comparison to the outside of the hotel. The famous markets (EL khalili bazaar) have to offer only fakes and kitsch and pushy salesmen. All in all we are disappointed by Cairo. Extremely dirty, world culture heirs are not maintained, the city stinks everywhere, shopping and the old and shabby hotel with very bad service. read hotel review

The zamalek is not on an island in the Nile, but with a building about, 100 meters from the nilufer away. When the balcony door is the traffic noise outside, otherwise strong traffic noise factor. Small clean heated pool area. Several restaurants, good breakfast buffet. Dinner buffet not worth five stars. Sufficient size of room on request two large twin beds. read hotel review

A visit to this hotel a bit of thousand and one night. The entrance to the old main building is a beauty. The restaurant, the breakfast room and the breakfast are excellent, of course. The room in the middle of the Cairo on the island of zamalek and the traffic flows, we knew. But with the windows closed we slept wonderfully. Many guests do not know that the main building to the opening of the Suez Canal for the prominent people of the time by the initiative of the French Empress was built. read hotel review

This hotel is just beautiful and absolutely clean, the staff was very friendly and the food and beverage choices were astonishing. I have a training in the hotel and have the correct view for hotels. I would highly recommend it if you like in a city hotel directly on the Nile want to stay and no all inclusive hotel with entertainment program and the child care expected. Perfect for couples! read hotel review

The hotel is known to be quite large and is situated on an island in the Nile. The rooms had been newly renovated and kept in pristine condition. I was disappointed by the rest of the architecture of the hotel. Judging from the descriptions I had expected some sort of palace, but was disappointed by a lot of kitsch. Everywhere, even in the lobby, very low ceilings and quite tasteless, florid interior design. We had booked an Executive Room. Even though we did have a nice view from the lounge, there was also this feeling of being constricted caused by ... the low ceilings. Breakfast was not impressive and service was poor. You had to fight for the attention of staff, as no one even thinks about just putting out a pot of coffee or tea so that you could help yourself. What was especially inconvenient: The impression that you were being treated as a second class guest compared to the guests from Arab countries. While these were being immediately fawned over, staff was a lot more reserved towards us. The worst thing for us was the fact that in the room next door guests from the Gulf States were staying who partied all night long. Sleep was impossible. Despite numerous complaints at front desk and the promise that this would not happen again, we experienced the same thing the second night. We then got a discount of $80 but this didn't give us back two sleepless nights. read hotel review

The room itself was quite spacious and clean. But what use is a non-smoking room if there are heavy smokers in the next room which is only separated by a connecting door.

  • Gastronomy
    3.5

Evenings in the garden are pretty nice, drinks okay. Otherwise we usually ate in the executive lounge, which was not overwhelming but okay.

  • Service

As already mentioned we had problems. Staff were very friendly, however, in the end nothing happened that made us think that our complaints had been taken seriously.

Unlike the rooms the pool area has not been renovated, but would be in need.
