We had to unfortunately after our beach vacation to stay the night, because in the night was loud our travel guide not drive.
Instead of booked superior room we got a great suite. The cocktails at the bar there were ok.
The dinner and breakfast was 5 stars are not worthy evenings there were for example only one type of meat, beer and Cola were in the restaurant (despite al) not included, only water and much too sweet juice. In the morning it should from 5:00 a. m. breakfast give, which we unfortunately already so early in use. At ... 5:05 o'clock was then the buffet opened, there was still no toast, no bananas, no eggs, it came only so gradually. From a freshly made omelets to be silent completely. read more

The hotel as' Transferhotel ' before the flight back for one night used. The announced 5 stars we can't understand.
The check in was quite cold and unfriendly. It took place merely a short and not informative briefing in the all inclusive-services ( afterwards but there was more Umklarheiten than before). Also the staff in the restaurant was inattentive and seemed not really motivated us to want to serve. You had the feeling not guest, but 'necessary evil' to be.
The hotel lies directly between 2 main roads, so it was in night as well despite having the window closed ... very noisy.
The Layout the room seemed run-down and uninviting. Furthermore the room was not really clean: in the bathroom were still hairs & stains in the shower and on the floor!
The pool area was apparently also cleaned not longer and seemed also uninviting.
So our in short: thank god only a night! read more

Good hotel, a bit remote. Typical transferhotel. Without taxi one way. Apart from that good hotel, we had all-inclusive as food and the selection was really good and also the quality was correct. Pool was also available. Apart from that really only as first night use before it on the next day the hotel went. read more

We were greeted by Iberia in this hotel, because our flight was delayed by one day. Staff at the front desk despite a long line (about 300 passengers) very friendly and competent, special requests (for example for a second toothbrush) were immediately fulfilled. Rooms typical for a city hotel, but clean and spacious. Since there was nothing to complain about. Buffet for dinner, not very diverse, but both the quality and taste of the food were very good. Also breakfast buffet was good. The building itself looks a bit old-fashioned and not very attractive, but in good condition. All in ... all not a bad choice for business travelers. For the beginning of a round trip we would but for a place to stay in Alajuela (there there were many small, intimate accommodations-> recommended is about the Vista Linda Montana in Tuetal Norte) recommended. read more

The Barcelo San Jose would be a top hotel, there were a few small defects not.
1.) room: my main point are the bad windows. The Windows dense not and the noise level in the room is, as the Windows would open. Sleep without ear plugs with me unfortunately did not. Furthermore, the entrance door did not close and the train between door and window rattled the door always. Otherwise is the layout of the room in accordance with a four star hotel. wireless is terrible slow and cost ten dollars per day, three days 20 dollars.
2.) ... breakfast: the breakfast is excellent except for the fact that on some days it is dated croissants (comes before).
Once a large group was there and I realised the breakfast not again. It was suddenly for coffee only plastic cups and self-service, no omelets or fried eggs, only to toast, the buffet quite broke and not just refilled again. Well in six days this was only the case. Otherwise very rich buffet breakfast with hot and cold dishes and a large selection of fresh fruits, muesli etc. only the bread selection is something small. Two sorts of toast and sometimes even a sort of white bread, more not.
3.) free time: the sauna is tiny and invites you not to linger, no beach chairs, uncomfortable and sterile. Reminded me more of a shower at a gym as a sauna. The pool is beautiful and amazingly large. It is several restaurants in the hotel, a casino and a bar with live music. read more

We have the Barcelo San Jose Palacio after arrival for one night visited. A great place to acclimatization. The hotel is clean and offers a high standard. The breakfast was very good with a lot of tropical Fruits. Something unpleasant I found the location nearby the highway. In the rooms but it is luckily quiet. Nice are also the garden and the pool. read more

The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the airport (!), for example, with the early hours the Condor flight to Germany was pretty good. We had booked breakfast and wanted to eat on the no airport. In the light of the dollar prices and of the deal would probably have been better it in the hotel.
The hotel is a Austrian as concierge, she gave us tips for the design of the in the afternoon and in the evening in San Jose. Shuttle (surcharge) with the hotel is well situated for easy access to the town, taxi back is ... cheap.
The room was great, had a view of views to the new stadium, but something loud on the street. Internet is expensive in the hotel. read more
