The rooms are big, clean and bed, desk, flat screen, built-in cupboard, safe, sideboard and large bathroom with a bath equipped. The hotel is despite location ( directly on the Chinatown gate) quiet. Parking is in sfo very expensive. The hotel has with a parking garage a agreement (31$ a night). Starbucks, various small restaurant, banks, supermarket and fashion shops are in the immediate vicinity. To the Union Square one runs about 5 minutes. The public we have always only starting from Market Street used (cable car, buses, muni) etc. Breakfast we were mostly in a small Italian café in ... Powell Street ( between Union Square and o'farrell street) or even to the famous mom' s on the Washington square ( line up included). In the lobby there is a computer with printer ( subject to a charge) and a drink-/ vending machine available. The frontdesk employees are very pleasant. Really important: Alcatraz book in advance. The tours are locally mostly several days in full. read more

Old-Fashioned, charming city hotel

The 'Baldwin' there is no any chains-hotel, no faceless block, but a lovingly renovated, striking old building with the charm bygone era-in the best sense 'old fashioned' -pleased us at first attempt. The central location between Chinatown and Union Square and the relatively cheap price convinced us then finally. read more

The 'Baldwin' offers 90 rooms on ten floors, all equipped with safe, telephone, Fan (no AC ), cable tv, free Wiki. our first room the 901-our 'new York rooms': very large, very light (two window ) situated on the street side with great view in the skyline. However the 01er room always next to the elevator, whose Gerumpel is clearly heard, and the location on the street side, the noise level recognizable -a city hotel very. as you after the first night a room changing offered, we landed in room 804: somewhat small, a little less brightly (only a window )-but quiet! No Rummswumms from the elevator, no gehupe the trash collection in the early morning hours. A really comfortable, large double bed, in which we could sleep well. Small, well equipped bathroom with hair dryer and a selection of soap and lotion. daily cleaning by Asian maids, their lack of English skills by outstanding creativity in the crafts of extras make up for it.

The 'Baldwin' than city hotel no private restaurant -it is in the lobby daily free coffee offered, there is also a drinksand a Süßigkeitenautomat available. for a minimalist breakfast one goes in Starbucks next door- clearly opulent breakfast across the street at the French 'cafe de la Presse': there are fresh Croissants, Eclairs and other treats in a nice ambiance. the best we enjoyed however the 'honey Honey': a really wonderful small shop nearby (post street )-here there was white coffee and OJ, fresh Pancakes and massive Omelets-go where the locals go! evenings eats in the 'cheesecake factory' or 'Loris diner' on Union Square very good. for smaller purchases one finds a 7/11 shop in the next block to the left of the 'Baldwin' hotel; a larger supermarket ' Walgreens' is downstairs in the market street (where also cable cars and F-line trolleys run ).

Generally very polite, helpful staff, the front desk is 24 hours manned. Check in was uncomplicated and friendly. In the lobby many flyer over possibilities for excursions from, some with discounts. the 'Baldwin' offers no own laundry service, a laundrette ('laundromat' ) but is nearby, also here helped us at the front desk friendly further. Wiki is in the entire hotel free available, is also in the lobby a internet-Terminal with printer available.

The 'Baldwin' is to grant avenue, at the entrance chinatown area, right below the Dragon gate. In the other Direction is Union Square with its many restaurants and shops (Nike town, Levis flagship store, Apple store ) and the adjoining market street (shopping paradise: Westfield mall! )-everything is in a few minutes easily reachable on foot. Union Square is the starting point the red hop on/off buses, with which one the city explore can. Just below, on market street, in the beautifully restored old streetcar F-line trolleys enter, the city from Fishermans Wharf to the Castro district cross. Slanted opposite of which is the starting point the cable car line Powell/Hyde, the Lombard street and California street also the Wharf. in short: best location, the city discover!

Had the baldwin for our USA-trip and we were satisfied with the location and the price-performance. It is located directly on chinatowngate and 2 blocks from the Union Square in a clean and safe area of san fran. The underground train on the Market Street (access to the airport) and the cable -Cars on Union Square there is only a couple -minute walk. Our room in one of the upper floors was big enough and quiet. The bathroom small but clean. Frühstückstipp : posh bagel, 270 sutter street (one block away): huge bagelauswahl and very delicious! read more
