Decent city hotel in the immediate vicinity of the old town

The Excelsior Grand Hotel Malta is located in Valetta on foot of the center. It has more than 400 rooms, several restaurants, a lobby bar/cafe with a magnificent view of the harbor, a spa with hairdresser, fitness centre, and indoor and outdoor pools (with sun terrace). The hotel was in public areas on the first glance spotlessly clean. The types of people are both from the age, as well as from the nationalities mixed. Our assigned room was very spacious and fully equipped with comfortable double bed, bedside tables, a desk with armchair and chair, cupboard with flat screen tv (a few german channels, pay tv) and balcony with balkonstühlen. There was an airco, minibar, safe (in the price) and coffee/tea making facilities. The spacious bathroom was fully equipped, clean and everything worked immaculately. The furniture in the room showed hardly any wear and tear, the carpet unfortunately not could claim. This was very stained. Also seemed the room rather superficially cleaned, if also not visibly dirty. Our feeling told us : for one night it goes. A shame, because otherwise it would be also because of the great views -6 stars defendendo.

I had only booked accomodation and breakfast. There we early from the hotel had (because of the flugtermins ), we were in fact at 6:30 o'clock the first guests for breakfast. It was already the complete package available. This was, but 4 star hotels was. The special of a 5 star hotel but it was not to be recognized. Overall you had to - like usually in the mediterranean-the bread/cold cuts/cheeses make. In particular, the white bread was not our central european expectations. Also the scrambled eggs did not convince. We have coffee and cake in the lobby bar consumed. The quality here was convincing, the service friendly, the prices but quite high. About the cleaning and the hygiene was in two cases nothing to complain about.

Of us taken into account service was nothing to complain about. Check-in and check-out was non-actionable. The buisinesscenter led the on-line check into for the return flight through. The print of boarding passes was but you have to pay. There is a laundry service, and 24-hour room service, which we but we didn't make use of it have.

The Excelsior Grand Hotel Malta -as mentioned above-on foot of the center, the only few minutes on foot away (as well as the bus station). The way to it but clearly uphill. The airport is with the taxi in 20-30 minutes. In the old town there was then shops and restaurants, bars and cafes in abundance. Interesting is however the historic old town of lots of old buildings and churches. Depending on where your room is, traffic noise audible. Our room was very clean and had a great view of the port.
