I am leaving with former two school friends that goes back and with my family for nearly 20 years several times every year to Prag. We have earlier in a reasonable pension in the district of zizkov (pension 15) and drive for a few years only in 4 stars hotels with a hotel coupons which in droves on eBay are offered. Here one comes into about on the same cost (between 20 and 30 Euro per person in a double room per night including breakfast) and rises in a 4 star hotel.
So far, we were always in one of ... the three Clarion-hotels in Prag (congress, old town, city) wanted but despite consistently good experience, this time simply sometimes new out once.
So was our choice on the Crowne Plaza. With average 100 €for two nights for two people including breakfast we could three coupons on eBay buy at an auction.
The location of the Crowne Plaza is not really central, however also not totally 'in the middle of nowhere'. From the hotel there are about 200 meters to the tram station. The line 8 brings in 15 minutes to the center to the republic square ( nměstí republiky). Right here is the shopping center 'palladium', the municipal house hall (obecni dum) with the famous jugendstilcafé and the historic powder tower. Wenceslas square it's just a couple of minutes.
The next metro station is located by the Crowne Plaza not really within walking distance, but with the tram or bus are easily reachable.
Shopping possibilities we didn in immediate proximity not seen however also not really looking for, as we on the way back to the hotel in a mini-market in the center always some drinks bought.
Breakfast is served in the Crowne Plaza from 6.30 until 11 o'clock. The selection is good, but not overwhelming. There are 2 coffee full automats in the breakfast area (with choco) and the orange juice tasted not artificially from powder mixed as otherwise often in hotels. The three other juices i didn't try. There is milk, soy milk and reduced-fat milk. The sausage- and cheese is well arranged but tasted ok. Fruit, yogurt and cereal are sufficiently available, i missed only melon. (ok, i am spoilt.) The majority of cakes as the waffles unfortunately rather dry. The scrambled eggs really delicious. There was beans, fried bacon, potato wedges and still some hot. Bread rolls, bread and toast are ok. In addition there was still fresh tomatoes and cucumbers.
The waiters for breakfast seems definitely mainly from trainees and looks rather shy in contact with guests. Fremdsprachenkenntnisse are here unfortunately only rudimentarily present, what a funny mistake led, but for a 4 stars hotel, actually not is okay.
Because of eBay-vouchers also not only businessmen or besserverdiener in the Crowne Plaza again, entered on saturday morning a bit tired-acting about 22-year-old in pajama trousers and without stockings the breakfast room. Genüsslich scraped it, in the middle of the entrance standing, first on the backside. I thought of 'candid camera' or something. He fought in the opposite part of the area.
I asked the blond young lady from the breakfast service in english, which mr but to be communicated, that it the next morning please in a decent slacks and shoes for breakfast show may, as we were finally in a 4 star hotel would be.
My statement to underline, interpreted i on my shoes and touched my socks.
They nodded officious and was determined in the direction the other table. Shortly before he turned in the kitchen from. After a short time you came back from of the kitchen to our table, turned to me and said with a worthy smile' today is no. ' unfortunately none of us could at the table this kind of with my previous please connect. I asked so, what ' today is no. ' mean. The young colleague from her, which in addition to their level, could not help. So left both the breakfast room. After a few minutes were the two with a 3. the staff again, which then on english explained, that he at the front desk asked could have been, it but unfortunately no socks for me there would be.
I explained to him amused the misunderstanding, but the sleepy young man was in the meantime already again to your room. For us' today is no. ' always a dictum and a beautiful reminder of our stay in the Crowne Plaza stay.
The rooms are ample for the size but not really big. The bathroom is rather small but has a bathtub. The tv was very many germans programmes is however also rather small. The windows open.
The fridge the minibar is big enough also own drinks cool.
The hotel lives from his' touch history ', which especially on the large red steps of of the lobby the breakfast room there was. Large chandelier, large lobby with very high rooms give it a sense of elegance and luxury. You can with a little imagination already imagine, like here in the 50's and 60's, the sizes of the eastern bloc descended and that these walls have experienced.
Fitness centre with a sauna we did not really use it. I am just gone through, because i down in the lobby otherwise no toilet found.
In the lobby there are free wi-fi and a business center with a functioning windows
Computer with internet access. There is also a mac, this worked but unfortunately not, or he didn't get on the internet.
The staff at the reception was very friendly, helpful and always tried to help. For example were without a murmur larger kronenscheine (5000 and 2000) in smaller changed. I have already experienced differently. Free umbrellas stood to the loan is required. English language skills were excellent.
Small problems (battery on the safe was empty ) were taken care of immediately. Thumbs up.
Because we this time by bus arrived, we have the parking of the hotel not used. But the parking situation in Prag it is hardly possible for under 20 Euro the night be sure to accommodate. The i in the last few years again and again experienced. Public parking garages, there are even more expensive. Therefore are the prices this in Crowne Plaza not, as i read in some reviews have, too expensive, but with 19 Euro unfortunately normal for a city such as Prag. Everything else is not the local conditions. This one should always remember, before you for the generally high reasonable price for parking of the city the hotel poorly. I certainly cannot the car in a side street free parking, must but i will not be surprised, if it is broken into. (this is me in the last 20 years but also only once 2005 zizkov happened. Here was my old polo, which for one night unguarded in the vlkova was parked, broken into. My passat i therefore always good in the hotel parking garage, there is never anything happens.)
To eBay-prices i can this hotel definitely recommend, otherwise i would a more central hotel take.
I wish every Prag-visitors a great stay and a great time in the golden city.
With further questions i help with advice on.
With kind regards

From a star hotel you could expect more. The quite ageing hotel has the charm a former hotel for the upper ten thousand in the age of the iron curtain. Our room was very small, the furniture ageing. And the saw one also quite clear. Heating in the bathroom only reachable if you don't slipped disk in the course of his life had and the controller then still dirty. Cleanliness of the room had after cleaning nor considerable care. Food was all right whereas for breakfast the views of '6' restaurantbeschäftigen irritating. English/german knowledge only at the front desk available. ... Ask in the restaurant after a spoon and enter the entry their number on tcheschisch to, otherwise it could take. Unfortunately we had expected more. It is Prag a town absolutely worth seeing. read more

Stay from 14-12-2012 until 17-12-2012 it was a short city break, but the arrival in the hotel a hidden and fantastic atmosphere, front desk was more than friendly, the hotel is old, but has very high quality charm, the staff are more than friendly and courteous, the landlady more than efficient courteous and honest, the breakfast, (we had only breakfast) more than rich, fresh and good, everyone becomes full. The rooms beautiful, clean and even with bügeleinheit. Restaurants nearby with fantastic food, bus stop on the doorstep, metro downtown christmas market and so on only 400 metres away. Conclusion very ... recommendable read more

Against many reviews, nearby there are of the hotel but some restaurants and shops: directly next to it is a massive kaufland -shopping center, which also sundays was open. On the main street, the in front of the hotel leads, are furthermore several kiosk and restaurants, the late evenings open-you must only 2 to 3 minutes walking.
Even when the hotel outside is, is the connection very good: tram stop right in front of the hotel, to the subway-station dejvicka walk maximum 10 minutes. We found the way completely fine, since various kiosk, supermarkets and restaurants dropping and a impression ... from the ' real ' Prag without 1000 e of tourists get. Also the Prague castle is comfortably within walking distance - and from there it is only a stone's throw away to the town center. read more

My girlfriend and I were from the hotel very pleased. The standard room was very spacious and selection at the breakfast buffet very varied. Because of the lack of restaurants nearby we had to the hotel restaurant exp. On the excellent dinner waited we one and a half hour.
The hotel is because of its proximity to center (1 long bus station ) very recommendable. read more

Admittedly, on the first impression, from the outside, the Crowne Plaza already something irritating. A massive relic from the socialist era, almost one means a time warp reported to have. You enter the entrance area the impression fort, everything was chic with a lot of brass and' fine' woods, the corresponding chair lack of course not.
The check in was fast and extremely accommodating, however ( only) in (perfect) English.
With friendly smile gave us the front desk employees our code cards and said: '. You're welcome, I see, you have very good connections to the management, enjoy your suite. ...'
First in the lift was aware, that we a extraordinary fluke landed. Only with the code card one arrives in the' exclusive' area of the Crowne Plaza on the 11 floor, in the merely suites are. The' room' turned out to be a approximately 75 meters² large suite that is exceptional out! Also here is the style 'bygone days', but everything is perfect and harmonious and in an absolutely new, well maintained condition! Extraordinary and recommendable 6 + points' room', without any flaws.
Therefore, an objective review for the hotel altogether, of course a bit difficult. We booked about holiday check-deals, with surely good conditions.
However is this price-performance -proportion, to our benefit, rather very unusual.
Of course, also the hotel 'Crowne Plaza' weaknesses, which we in the usual way, is it as objective, rather critical, to evaluate would want.
The hotel:
The Crowne Plaza is an impressive building, on the architectural ugliness or beauty taste of the food were satisfactory. The heyday of the socialism, the hotel was the top address for all sizes of the regime and their guests, thus for the ordinary people or tourists absolutely unattainable. The hotel has ' its' characteristic construction and installation style of the times and is now almost as a kind of museum, that however meanwhile the pressures of mass tourism subject has. That about 250 room 'stocked' must be guarantees the economic survival, yet the hotel 'down'. In the 'norm' fulfilled the hotel the designated standard, in at best, satisfactory way. The hotel obviously mostly by bus- and 'almost-europe' -traveler busy, or sets (as in our case) interesting coupon-arrangements, for eigenanreisende.
That the management but also quite the location is, 'individual' decisions meeting and to react quickly, was clearly shown and reveals the potential of the hotel. Thus the hotel is also for meetings very interesting. read more

Very nice, well-maintained hotel, once a luxury lodging for the officers of the Warsaw Pact was built. This luxury feel you today the spacious interior design and facilities. The double rooms are very generously designed and in size far above the standard of a 4 star business -hotels.
Very nice lobby- and bar area.
In front of the hotel is a tram -stop with best connection in the Prague city. read more

Some reviews here scare off - no way old and run-down. From the outside it has the appearance, but once inside, you have to wonder. The ancient decor is simple style of the hotel and much more impressive. Large golden entrance doors, marble floors, ceilings with stucco decoration, red carpets the diningroom, a chandelier in the restaurant and comfortable wing chair in the lobby. Is nevertheless times something else! The room was beautiful than we imagined. It is big enough and antique furniture. The bed with many cushions on it is very comfortable. Seemed the room cozy and is very ... good equipped, Wi-Fi included. Breakfast is standard German/English, but plentiful and good! The hotel lies somewhat outside of the center, but has right on the doorstep a tram stop with the you in about 15 to 20 minutes in the old town is. For whom the problem is, you should look for another hotel. Nearby there is a Billa ( supermarket) to the mini bar with private reasonably priced treats to fill.-) Normally we like on vacation in large, bulky old-fashioned kind Hoteltürmen is, but for a short city break is this hotel completely reasonable! read more

The Crowne Plaza is a massive, monumental hotel. It offers cleanliness, friendliness, very good breakfast buffet and good service. Unfortunately the hotel is very far away. It is only with open. Transport (tram line 8) in the city. On foot unfortunately not. This is the only downside. The area the hotel is drab. But since you old town want to see and the sights, that is not so important. For families with children the hotel is not really suitable. Disabled have too problems, no ramps are. read more

The hotel is rather far away from downtown and all the turistical attractions, but there is a direct tram connection to downtown (it takes aroung 20-30 mins to downtown). It's in a very imposing old socialist building and it still maintains a little of the socialist flair...otherwise the rooms are rather modern, but also relatively small (at least the standard rooms). They have a good rich breakfast, nothing to complain about there. The staff was also friendly and could speak English and German. read more
