A place travelers can visit Alcaiceria Silk Road
Reviews: Alcaiceria Silk Road
General description: Alcaiceria Silk RoadAlcaiceria used to be a silk market in the Moorish quarter of Granada, Spain. Tourist can stock up here on clothes, scarfs, carpets, rugs and wall decor. Spreading over more than 500 villages the mulberry tree plantation produced up to 1.5 tons of silk each year and more than 4000 working looms were counted at the peak of production. Each household was a home to about 40,000 silk worms and silk production was number one job in the reagion. After th 15th century expulsion of Moors from Spain the Spanish silk production declined and surrendered to export from Japan and China. Nowadays the tradition lives on only in form of shows for tourist and single, tiny manufactures.
