General description: Christ of the Lanterns Monument
El Cristo de los Desagravios y Misericordia is a large crucifix located at the cobbled Plaza de los Capuchinos in Córdoba, Andalusia. The sculpture was created in 1794 by the sculptor Juan Navarro
León and comissioned by a monk or Capuchin order, Diego José de Cádiz. The crucifix is a perfect example of Baroue epoch and is illuminated by eights lanterns. Statue is lit at night, giving the area
a sacred feel. Popularly the cross is called Christ of the Lanters due to a small fence with lanterns surrounding and enclosing the monument.
