A place travelers can visit Balafia - Village in the interior of the island
Reviews: Balafia - Village in the interior of the island
General description: Balafia - Village in the interior of the islandThe old village of Balàfia is a small, inland hamlet which offers a very good sample of Eivissan traditional architecture. It is located a few meters from Sant Llorenç, and it can be reached on foot in several minutes.
The village is composed of five traditional houses (casas payesas), and two defensive towers that form a place of high archaeological interest. Some of the towers and houses have white crosses on their façades, an ancient ritual to protect them from assaults. Its chalk-white, cube-shaped buildings are some ofthe very few built in the traditional style still standing on the island. As a matter of fact, Balafia is the last whole village of its kind remaining.
