Reviews: Rimondi Fountain
General description: Rimondi FountainThe Rimondi Fountain in the heart of the old town of Rethymnon in Crete, has offered fresh water to passers-by for centuries. The Fountain was built in 1626 by the Venetian governor of Rethymnon A. Rimondi.
The front of the Rimondi Fountain compromises of 4 small columns which all stand on raised basins. These basins use to be used as troughs for animals to drink from. The water runs from spouts that are in the form of lions' heads. There are three recesses in the fountain; the central recess is of particular interest as it has a semi-circular alcove displaying the crown of Rimondi.
