The Monastery of El Escorial
The Royal Seat of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is both a Royal Palace and a Monastery. It was commisioned by Philip II of Spain who spent most of his reign trying to banish the Protestant Reformation.
El Escorial was to be both a religious symbol and a home. The monastery is now the property of the Order of Saint Augustine.
