General description: Salona Ruins

Salona ruins are located in the city of Solina, Croatia. They are situated approximately 340 km south from the capitol of Croatia, Zagreb.

Salona, once a capitol of the region of Dalmatia, was a Roman city. Previously owned by the Greeks who built a marketplace there. Later it was conquered by the romans who created significant infrastructure here and established this city as the regions capitol. The structures built by the romans include: city walls, an amphitheater, aqueduct, public baths, and a forum. The city of Salona was a site of many church structures and development of Christian architecture.
