Reviews: Fishriver Canyon
General description: Fishriver CanyonThe Fish River Canyon in Namibia is the second longest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon in the United States. It is about 160 km long and 27 km wide and in some places up to 550 meters deep.
The canyon is located on the lower reaches of the Fish River. This flow of the river is not continuous during the year, it is seasonal, therefore it is not navigable.
The canyon begins near the village of Seeheim and ends by Ai-Ais. Then, the river flows into the Orange River along the border with South Africa.
The 90-kilometer trail through the gorge is one of the most popular hiking trails in this part of Africa. However, it's a tough walk, often in very high temperatures.
Public viewpoints over the canyon can be found near Hobas, 70 km north of Ai-Ais.
