General description: Kızıl Kule (Red Tower)The Red Tower is one of the most recognizable symbols of Alanya (in Turkey). The tower was built in 1225 under the request of the Sultan Alaeddin Keykubada. The monument is represented on the flag of the city of Alanya. The tower is also known as the "Kizil kule". Its name has its origins in the red brick which was used for its construction of the upper parts of the tower.
It is an octagonal tower, which is located in the port of the city. The building is 33 meters high. The Red Tower has been initially built for military purposes.
Today, it hosts a Museum of Ethnography. The Red Tower offers a splendid panorama of the city and its port, and attracts a large numbers of tourists every day.
