Brief introduction
The name Algarve comes from the Arabic al-Gharb (West), because it corresponded to what is now southern Portugal. Its capital is Faro, and is a popular destination for Europeans.
Weather
Thanks to the constant climate of the Algarve, you can swim from May until early November, although it should be noted that the Atlantic water is colder than the Mediterranean.
Temperatures and sunshine, and the number of rainy days can be compared with those of North Africa. The average temperature is 17 º C and average humidity ranges between 50% and 75%. In winter, temperatures rarely drop below 10 º C and the dry, hot summer (especially August) temperatures are softened and made bearable by the northerly wind blowing from Europe.
Country and People
History
The region was heavily Islamized. The area of Al-Andalus, the cultural, scientific and most important technology area in Portugal , especially the town of Silves.
The disintegration of the Arab Empire was conquered by King Sancho I fleetingly (the town of Silves in 1189), but it was not until 1249 when Alfonso III finally conquered then proclaimed kingdom of Portugal and the Algarve.
In 1267 with the Treaty of Badajoz, Castile recognized the Portuguese possession of the Algarve, which became part of the kingdom of Portugal, which never had independence, from 1910 and even stopped to exist as a kingdom.
