History
The Celts were the first inhabitants of Bavaria and during the reign of Emperor Augustus the Bavaria area south of the Danube was part of the Roman Empire.
After 1814, many of the modern boundaries of Bavaria were drawn, after signing the Treaty of Paris. Today Bavaria is part of Germany, this is so since German unification in 1871.
Bavaria is bordered by Austria and the Czech Republic.
Munich, the capital of Bavaria, Augsburg and Regensburg are among the most important cities in Bavaria.
Religion
Most of the population is Catholic, particularly in Lower Franconia (one of the seven administrative regions of Bavaria). In Franconia the majority of the population is evangelical. Benedict XVI, the current Pope of the Catholic Church, was born in Marktl am Inn in Bavaria and was archbishop of Munich and in 1977 he was appointed cardinal.

EventsOne of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany is the "Oktoberfest", in the Bavarian city of Munich it attracts more than six million visitors from Italy, USA, Spain and Japan. It is one of the most popular festivals in the world and takes place between September and October, for about two weeks. People come to the party dressed in traditional Bavarian costume. The men wear the typical "Lederhosen" (leather trousers) and women wear the "Drindl (Bavarian feminine dresses.)
The Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth is held every year in the Bavarian town of Bayreuth and is dedicated to the operas of German composer Richard Wagner.

A typical dish of Bavaria is the "weißwurst" white sausage accompanied by a little mustard and a pretzel. In general, the traditional drink is wheat beer. The beer is usually served in one liter glasses (called "Mass" in German). The "weißwurst" and beer is particularity eaten at Oktoberfest.

We stayed for a week over new year's Eve in Bavaria went smoothly. Big plus for us was the child care. You could hardly better be. Our room was quite large and had (318) a great panoramic view. The quality of the lunch and dinner I great. What I personally liked less :-partly a bit 'drafty' (cool) in the hotel in the first evening meal I had to get me a jacket (... A new experience for me). Simple, but nice holiday location for ski holidays
Ferienwohnanlage am Nationalpark in Kirchheim near Munich, Bavaria
We stayed for a week in a condo (including two bedroom) in the holiday location at the national park. The condo is normal equipped. If you want to have a nice and cheap skiing vacation to make would like, is right at home here. There are ski slopes nearby. Even though you have to drive with the car to the slopes, but this is not a problem. Neuschönau (Bavaria) is in the national park and is definitely worth a visit. We stayed in the new and thus in the renovated part of the hotel. Of course there is not the best area of Germany, but the surrounding area is simply a dream. We want to visit this hotel definitely go back. Hotel Bavaria in the mountains to experience the comfort! Read more
