Corsica is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (8720 km ²), after Sicily and Sardinia. Granite rock, cut by deep gorges, mountains covered with pine and chestnut trees, and the blue
waters of the lovely lagoons make it a dream destination for every tourist.Getting there
The Island of Corsica can be reached in two ways- by plane or by sea. The island territorially belongs to France, therefore for EU citizens there is no problem entering. Of course, you must have with you proof of identity, which is useful when you get on the ferry or plane.
When to go
Corsica is sunny year round. In the summer the heat is sometimes unbearable, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees. The Island has many thunderstorms in the summer. The water temperature is often 25 degrees, ideal for those who love to swim in warm waters. Off-season temperatures tend to be mild (with the exception of the higher parts of the area where it snows), conducive to long walks.
Country and People
History
The excellent geographical location of the island is also its downfall, because from the very beginning it was a tasty morsel for close and distant neighbors, and the sea often brought uninvited guests. Legend has it that the founder of the first settlement was a Corsican named Kors, who arrived here with his herd of cows (the oldest human remains found on the island belong to the woman living there were approximately 6.5 thousand. years BC.)
People
Although Corsica has belonged to France for over 230 years, the inhabitants of the island still cherish their individuality.

Events
In the third week of June each year, there is a jazz festival. However the most traditional festival takes place in September, where teams of men sing traditional Corsican folk songs.
Culinary specialties
It is all about fish in Corsica. With most restaurants offering fresh fish caught that morning. Sea food also features heavily in the menus.
Sights
An unforgettable experience the famous Corsican hiking trail, which crosses the island from North to South through the mountains. You also visit the Cap Corse, the picturesque hilly promontory that resembles a thumb on the map. Of course, interesting places are cities, such as Calvi (the seaside citadel and a long sandy beach of the azure bay), Bonifacio (seaside town hanging on the white, vertical cliffs), and the mountainous region in the heart of Corsica, with the gorges and the highest peaks - Cortenais .

The owner wanted us to pay for another night, because we wanted to check out at 10.30 a.m. but apparently you have to check out till 10 a.m. - what!?! 120€ for half an hour?! And during the check-in she hasn´t even said a word, except: "name!" I have never met such a bad and rude person in a hotel. Read more
