Trip Preparation
Fuerteventura is one of the seven islands in the Canaries. It is the second largest. It emerged from the sea over 21 million years ago. Its long coastline means it has the largest selection of
beautiful beaches out of all the islands. Perfect for a holiday with children, but also for those who love windsurfing and other water sports.
On the border
Although the island is only 100 km from the coast of Africa, is an integral part of Spain, and therefore a member of the EU. EU citizens only need a passport and don’t require a visa.
Climate
Visit at any time of year. Temperatures are perfect for walking and doing sports all the time. However if it is sunbathing you are interested in, then your best option is to visit during the summer months. In the winter the temperature does not fall below 18 degrees.

Country and People
History
The island has strong links with Christopher Columbus, who was on the island before his conquest to the new world. It is also a place where many people fled during the dictatorship of Franco. Fuerteventura was the first place is Spain to develop tourism in such a massive way.
Culture
Most inhabitants have something to do with tourism, therefore they are very open to new arrivals. Life on the island floats peacefully, there is always time for a siesta or a two-hour meal. The climate means there is very much an outdoor culture.
Religion
Like the rest of Spain most inhabitants are Catholic. However there are also many people that do not declare their religion.

EventsOne of the main events of the year is the water sports competition around Sotavento beach. There is also a very famous windsurfing and kite surfing school located here.
Culinary Specialties
Like each of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura also has its own typical dishes and products. The most noticeable is its different varieties of goat’s cheese. As for restaurants, you will find almost every type of cuisine on the island at a variety of different price levels.
Sights
Fuerteventura is mainly beaches. Sotavento beach is ideal for water sports lovers. Matorral beach, is perfect for those who want to lie in the sun. Costa Caleta is ideal for the family. In the north of the island is Corralejo, a town with an old fishing village atmosphere.
We recommend you to visit the village of Betancuria, the old capital of the island. Here you see the historic church of Santa Maria.

Hotel reviews for hotels in Fuerteventura
I was in the nudist area (right next to the sauna, very recommendable) and my kids were in the teenager club. The club's boss made me a brew (thank you Kurt), I made some good conversation, the community spirit there is very good. The view was fantastic. A pleasant atmosphere. If you are a constant moaner, you have come to the wrong place as there are some faults, however I can gladly accept them, because you feel comfortable there. Everyone has their own area that they can choose. There are ... Read more

Even after the renovation has not changed a lot. The rooms in the bungalows are so small as always and the closet was much too small. But that is not in this club. The mood good hotel and you have straight access. The quality of the food was very good and there was a different theme every day at the buffet. Baptismal can stand late breakfast in the restaurant on the beach. All you can eat all day. The evening shows could use times exchanged to be. If You more often Club vacation makes, shows ... After all the previously read reviews I was rather nicely surprised. There are many large stones on the beach, I knew-have stayed several times in the neighbor hotel vacation - bathing shoes are necessary, if you don't want to slip... The food was in order, in any case, I have always found something for my taste. In my second week here, even though it was in the restaurant sometimes very crowded. The pool area was very beautiful and green designed. The rooms are were furnished practically and... Read more
