Lake Garda

On the border / visa


It is said that Lake Garda is the best place in Europe to study and develop the ability to swim and windsurf. Its favourable weather conditions make this possible. On one hand, the steep, rocky slopes, on the other the extensive beaches - all this makes for Lago di Garda - because that is the original name of the lake - most of the year there are winds that are ideal for practising windsurfing. For the inhabitants of Austria, Switzerland, or Bologna and Milan, there in no need to go to the seaside for acess to the water.

The cleanest and largest lake region is located in northern Italy - roughly half way between Venice and Milan, on the border of three provinces in Italy, Trento, Verona and Brescia. As italy is in the EU, EU citizens only require their passport. The nearest airport is in nearby Verona. Only about 25 km away from the shores of Laga de Garda.
Climate / When to go?

The busiest time of year on the beaches of Lake Garda is, of course, in the summer (July / August). However, favourable conditions prevail for the rest of the year here from April to October. At that time, the average temperature does not fall below 20 degrees Celsius.

History / Customs

Lake Garda is a typical example of  a glacial lake formed by glacier activity. The genesis of its creation is based on the principle of a progressive deepening of the existing glacier mountain valley and the carry out of its backlog. Geologists believe that the lake finally shaped in the Pleistocene period. The average depth of Lake Garda is 136 m. At its deepest point it reaches 346 m deep. The lake has a characteristic shape of the south. Measures 55 km long. While the width is 4 km in the northern part, this varies to 12 km in the south.  The southern part is already the foreground. The largest of five islands in the reservoir are Isola del Garda (located about 200 meters from Capo San Fermo).

Culture /  Traditions

Lake Garda region's population does not deviate much from the more typical standard for the Italians. Of course, this "northern variety, and therefore a bit more restrained and cool than the" southern variety. " Time here runs slightly faster than in the far south of the country. The more that a significant part of living here comes from northern Europe, where, as we know, time is perceived differently from how it exists for example in Palermo. Wandering around the area of Lake Garda, in most situations, however, will there be friendly, loud and spontaneous people.  At any time, ready to relax with a delicious cup of cafe latte.

Airports / Car Rental
 
The nearest airport is in nearby Verona. Aeroporto Valerio Catullo di Verona Villafranca, is located about 25 km east of the lagoon.

At the airport you can rent a car. Arriving at the airport you will be able to rent a car from the following companies: Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Maggiore, Sixt, Thrifty, Eurocar.

Public transport

In terms of public transport, coastal Lake Garda is very well prepared for tourists. The lake is bordered to the North  by a road that is one of the most brilliantly located throughout Italy. The road around the lake goes through tunnels carved into the rock. The ride - especially at night when the dark panes of light reflected off restaurants - is a unique experience.

To catch a taxi is easy. There is a good network in the area of Verona and you will not have to wait long.

Whillst on the lake take advantage of the many windsurfing courses available here. Nowhere else will you encounter such a phenomenal learning environment conducive to the sport.

What culinary specialties love the Italians?


We know! Pasta. Pizza. The caffe latte or espresso! Residents surrounding Lago di Garda do not differ too much in this respect from other Italians.

Lifestyle


Closer to midnight than noon, as it has been written in the "mentality / tradition. " loud conversations with espresso. Vivid gestures. And in the evening are endless walks on cobblestone streets.

Sights

Windsurfing cources and walking in the nearby mountains are some of the more tiring activities. Or how about being a little more relaxed and taking the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo! Or just spend your nights stolling about the beautiful streets!
