Country and People

History
Like all of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote was generated during periods of volcanic eruptions. In 1730 there were major volcanic eruptions on the island of Lanzarote. On 1 September, 32 new volcanoes formed along 18 kilometers. These eruptions occurred between 1731 and 1736. Vulcan lava buried a quarter of the island surface.
In 1768, a drought devastated the island and caused many casualties. Many people migrated to the other Canary Islands or Cuba or America. In 1824 there was another big erruption from the Tiagua Volcano; however this was not as severe as previous eruptions. Timanfaya National Park is home to 25 volcanoes one of which is Montaña de Fuego ( Mountain of fire).

Getting Around

Lanzarote Airport is located near the island capital of Arrecife. It is the third largest airport, after the Airports of Gran Canaria and Tenerife South Airport.

Public Transport / Infrastructure
The road network in Lanzarote is very well developed, all parts of the island can be reached comfortably by car. . A highway connects the airport with the capital of Arrecife. La Playa Blanca and Yaiza are linked by a highway. The bus network also links most areas. El Puerto de Arrecife is the main port of Lanzarote. Ferries sail from that port to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cádiz. For those who need a relaxing great hotel for people aged 40. For younger people around and variety. The evening show's varied but no highlights and unfortunately only in the bar which was a bit stuffy. Beautiful, well-kept pool area with enough pool chairs. The big beach unfortunately not used, therefor it was too windy and cool. However, for December excellent. Hotel with about 70-80% English, otherwise German, French and locals. The level of the guests very good. Read more

The hotel is generally a good hotel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and always with a friendly smile. The food was tasty and also diverse. What personally bothered us a bit, was the fact, that the hotel from about 90% English inhabited was, in part. Impossible behaved. The rooms are nice large and well equipped, in the bathroom there was no exhaust and resulted in a high humidity the showers, so that one in the mirror first couldn't see any more. But our vacation no harm done. I... Read more

It was a really great vacation. Food and drinks were very good. The only 'drawback' was, that the pool bar restaurant was not very nice. This is supposed to be but be abolished. If you're looking for something to complain about, probably need to live at home in a castle with officials. The so-called cesspools odor was not noticeable to us. Completely strong praise for Wehnachts -new year's Eve food. It was five stars value. We had a junior suite with kitchenette, but which does not equipped is. Read more
