Climate
On the whole, London’s temperate climate is warm in summer and cool in winter, usually without extremes in temperature. In winter, London can get down to a few degrees below freezing and in summer it can get up to 28C. It can also rain quite hard, but drizzle is more common.

Language
Currently, there are about 180 nationalities living in London and they all speak a form of English.

Telephone
London is one of the oldest capitals in the world and renowned for its red public telephone boxes. A few still exist but most people communicate via their cell phones and London has comprehensive cell phone cover and easily available broadband.

Customs / Culture
London is a metropolitan city with many customs and cultures but the English culture still shines through and is exemplified by orderly queues in banks and at bus stops. The West End in London is renowned for its Regency housing, museums and for its numerous theatres where some of Britain’s finest actors tread the boards.


Traditions

London has many traditions but changing the guard at Buckingham Palace is one of the most famous. Other traditions that include great pageantry include the Lord Mayor’s parade on New Year’s Day and the Beefeaters at the Tower of London. London is also renowned for its red double-decker buses and for its black taxi cabs.

All religions are represented in London, a city where people of faith do not fear persecution.

Getting Around

Airports / Car rental
London is served by five airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and London City Airport. Car rental is easy to book in advance or to hire on arrival, on most occasions.

Public Transport
There is good public transport between London and all its airports. Within London, there is the largest underground network of trains in the world and on the surface there are plenty of buses and taxis. Buying an Oyster card makes getting around London that much easier.
