Madrid has cold winters owing to its high altitude with temperatures often dropping below freezing and snow is quite common. Summers are very hot and temperatures regularly go higher than 30C. It rains throughout the year but the overall level of rain is quite low, consequently, much of Spain’s capital gets its water supply from a dammed river.

Customs / CultureMadrid is a top European destination for visitors interested in the arts as it is home to the world famous Prado, the Thyssen Bornemisza and the Reina Sofia museums. In total, there are at least twenty museums and art galleries in Madrid.
Traditions
The Plaza de Toros was created in 1929 and is called Las Ventas. It is considered to be the greatest bullfighting venue in the world and has a seating capacity of 25,000. The bullfighting season is from March until the end of September. During the San Isidro festivities to celebrate Madrid’s patron saint, bullfights are held every day and on Sundays before and after the festival period. Other times, Las Ventas is used for music concerts and various other events.
Religion
Madrid has a great number of Roman Catholic churches, with the oldest, San Nicolás de los Servitas, dating from the 12th century.

Airports / Car rental
Madrid is served by Barajas Airport which is the principal airport hub in Spain. Car rentals are available but it is advisable to book in advance.
Public Transport
Madrid is also a hub for Spain’s national rail network with plans afoot to build a high speed rail link to connect all of Spain’s major cities, so that no city is more than four hours by rail from Madrid. There is also a local commuter train service and a Madrid Metro, which is second only to the London Underground in terms of miles of track.

There are many wonderful Baroque and neo-Gothic churches that are truly impressive, complemented by some fine architecture such as the Plaza de Oriente, Casa de la Villa, and the Alcalá Gate, which is a neo-classical monument in the Plaza de la Independencia.

This is a complex with several 5-story houses. Front desk, café and breakfast area are on two houses. The Treppenahus was very dirty and beschmiert, elevator also dirty. Some light switch were broken. The Minutenlicht is not enough, from the elevator the room or vice versa to come.
The breakfast is rather simple (toast, Industriemarmelade, a sausageand one sort of cheese, cereal, no fruit).

value for money top-I would go there again
the rooms were perfect reasonable. Very modern furnished. The rooms have different colors. We were in a green rooms with dark brown furniture. There is also a flat screen with 2, 3 German programs. RTL was in any case for everyone.
bed was nice and big. The only thing small shortcoming was the bathroom, but for a hostal adapted. But nevertheless clean. Only very simple furnished.
