Country and People
Customs / Culture
Rome is the capital of Italy and is one of the oldest capitals in the world. The Romans ruled their “global” empire from Rome and for hundreds of years it was revered and feared by those the Romans had conquered. That confidence in art, music, food, wine and romance exists today.
Traditions
Romans have many traditions but enjoying life to the full is probably the one they cherish the most. Wearing designer clothes and eating fine food in celebrated restaurants are typical traditions of modern Roman citizens. Throwing coins in the Trevi Fountain is a tourist tradition although Romans are proud of the fact that the fountain is internationally famous and was built by the Romans before the birth of Christ.
Religion
The Pope lives within the Vatican City which lies within the heart of Rome. Most Italians were Christened Roman Catholics.

Getting Around
Airports / Car rental
When you land at Rome airport, unless you plan to travel outside of the city, it is unwise to rent a car as driving and parking in Rome is not for the faint-hearted or those travelling on a limited budget.
Public Transport
Rome is a city for walking and for jumping on and off the local buses and trams. If you plan to travel outside Rome, then only rent a car when you need it as Rome’s historic centre is out of bounds to cars.

Culinary SpecialitiesAt sunset, Rome’s bars, restaurants and pizzerias fill with people enjoying fine Italian wine and superb Italian cooking including stunning pasta dishes.
Lifestyle
If it’s not dining out or meeting friends in bars, Romans love to shop for top quality designer goods in stores such as Angelo di Nepi which has shops located in Via Cola di Rienzo, Via del Babuino, Via dei Giubbonari, and Via Frattina.
Sights
The centre of Roman is full of historical sites including the Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s finest piazzas, which offers three amazing fountains and the baroque Church of Sant'Agnese. The piazza was once called Circus Agonalis and parts of the original Roman sports stadium can still be seen.
Other magical sights in Rome include the Pantheon which was built in the 2nd century AD and has one of the largest domes in the world, complemented by three rows of columns and a magnificent bronze door.
There are too many wonderful sights and piazzas in Rome to mention them all but those that should be visited include the Colosseum and Piazza Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Colonna and, as mentioned above, the Piazza Navona.
