Fun and laughter down the Nile
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe Ship is very well cared for. A great boat from which to explore and view the Nile. All crew are charming, accommodating, well informed. Their attention to detail is wonderful. They work hard to ensure your comfort and good time. The Ship is clean and tidy at all times, certainly 'ship shape'. Food is in abundance and quality of food was a welcome surprise. The Christmas Eve buffet was more of a banquette. The display was exceptional. I was delighted to discover that the age range of guests was mixed and not all retired like the cruise ship reputation tends to be. This led to good conversations with many fellow shipmates. There is plenty of space on the Ship allowing to engage with guests if and when you desire. If time alone and peace and quiet was the order of the day, this was certainly achievable. Guests and crew alike were relaxed, courteous, respectful: no complaints
CabinOur cabin was perfect: Clean, tidy and a very comfortable large bed - Nice sheets too. The cabin crew who made up the cabins twice daily were without exageration were simply Brilliant - not only good at their job, they took absolute delight in ensuring you were happy. Their daily treats of installtions in the room were a joy to behold. Showers are beautifully hot but if you do have to get up early for an excurtion, maybe wait until you get back before showering.
GastronomyThe main restaurant / buffet catered for all. As expected, meet, fish or vegetarian all available at any one time. Breakfast finished early but missing breakfast does not really matter as often still full from dinner the night before and lunch can be as big or as small as you like. I would have loved to have a bit more local cuisine and fresh coffee. Fresh coffee is available on board but this is charged extra. This one detail would not cost them too much and would give a lot to guests. One Egyptian feast was much enjoyed - absolutely delicious flavors. With so many nationalities on board, it is hard to cater for all requirements but they do a very fine job. All of the ship is very clean, the restaurant is no exception. Waiting staff are very well trained and managed.
ServiceExcellent across all areas, from the welcome reception to the restaurant, through to the cabin crew and all Front of House. Laundry, ironing service was swift and very welcome. All staff are well versed in at least 3 languages making all guests equally as welcome.
Sport & EntertainmentTraditional Cruise liner sports & entertainment. The pool is cold but once you've taken the plunge. quite fantastic. Table tennis if you fancy (wind permitting!) Great effort is put into the after dinner entertainment - after a full day, not always required but there if you want it.
Land excursionsOur guide was incredibly well informed. Some days there is simply too much to take in. Some early starts but that means an afternoon decked out by the pool! I would advice on the early starts you take some food in your bag and certainly lots of water. You do not have to partake in all trips - again this is personal choice. I personally would have liked to be given a bit more information of sites and attractions around us so that on days 'off' you had the option to explore on our own, without a group
Other tips and recommendationsA great alternative Christmas for sure. Fun and a lot of laughter. Not too hot. The street hustlers are quite full on - we discovered dressing in traditional dress and trying to sell them bottled water made them laugh and therefore they left us alone
